Can they not work from home?

    Teleconference on their computer?

I suppose most being teachers they're used to (almost) unlimited time off with inflated wages and work shy.

Interesting they are social distancing in a conference centre and everyone is considered a close contact so they close it down. I am closer than 60cm from the kids I teach for 40 minutes in an 8 foot wide room and have been told as SET I don't count as a close contact, that I should continue working.

    An 8 foot wide room???
Did they put you out in the corridor?

I'm no great fan of MM's but if I was him I'd have given McCullough (who before this evening's performance I have always regarded as a pretty good and professional journalist) a kick straight in the balls.

He was simply trying to score smartass points and hadn't even the basic courtesy to bother listening to MM's answers. For me, his antics were disgraceful and MM treated him far too politely.

We are quickly becoming the laughing stock of Europe, first with our confusing travel advisories, then the golfgate scandal followed by more confusion over the EU job, now this, id be amazed if this government is still in place by the end of the year

I thought he (and the rest of the cabinet)were self-isolating no?

The interrogation took place in the open air outside Government Buildings - the inquisitor and his hapless victim stood about 9 feet away from one another.

It’s his job as a journalist to ask her tough questions and Martin was struggling to give clarity on some points.

These questions were absolutely necessary in light of the fact that the government had to come out after their announcement and clarify the restaurant situation if things go to level 3 & also the fact that they have already broken the conventions set out in their roadmap on day 1 of its implementation

In our school the photocopying room is now a classroom. The double door exit area is a classroom. Two rooms designed as offices are classrooms. In most of those rooms they are so small they have the chairs with the small table attached in order to fit the class in

ETA: we are bursting at the seams but we don’t qualify for extra buildings etc unless we convert every usable space in the building first

Even so I find it hard to believe that it is only eight feet wide- that sounds like a broom closet.

Edit; just seen above post about a broom closet!

The special needs room in my school is also about 8 foot wide, these rooms are often converted storage rooms

The questions weren't particularly tough and Martin proved himself fully capable of answering them, calmly and articulately - whenever RTE's baboon wasn't interrupting him or noisily rustling his papers as he frantically tried to find something that he could use to trip him up.

He wasn’t able to outline exactly how we would move between levels & the farcical situation of level 2.5 in which Dublin finds itself undermines the whole document already so he will be continuously questioned on it I would imagine

Hopefully the interview will be repeated on the 9.00 news so we'll get a second chance of hearing what his response was. From memory I believe that MM said something about NPHET issuing more clarification on Thursday?

This day will long be remembered in politics. They'll need 2 Reeling in the Years programs to cover this ongoing cluster****. Are the cabinet isolating in Clifden House Hotel?

I think the clarification that he said would be forthcoming on thurs was regarding the state of play in Dublin & not how to move between levels.

There’s a decent chance that Dublin could find itself out in level 3 this thurs as the position it’s in now was decided on after last Thursday recommendations- while cases have increased a bit since then.

I can understand the apprehension about imposing tighter restrictions on Dublin but this level 2.5 stuff, especially on day 1, just looks amateurish

Surely it wasn't necessary to publicise his illness or whatever, until he got a result.

And ringing the chief medical officer for advice. Donnelly is an idiot.

It is odd that he needed to ring the CMO.

Surely he, as MFH, knows that if you have symptoms that you self isolate & get checked- you don’t need to double check

It sets a good example. If in doubt, get tested, be open about it and ensure any colleagues are aware of it so that they can take precautions.

He talks to the CMO several times a day. Of course he's going to ask him for advice!

Donnelly should be sacked for ignoring the advice he expects everyone else to follow. Bunch of Muppets.

I've said this on other threads but just because someone has the virus, it doesn't mean they have been ignoring or breaching the advice/regulations.

A:"Act quicker how? But sure the pubs weren't opening until the 21st. Today is plenty of notice, it doesn't make a difference".

I'm no expert, but I'd imagine if you've been 100% assured by the Government on the 8th that your business can open the 21st, you might want official notification as far as possible in advance that they're reneging on that. Given real world businesses have issue like staffing and stock to organise.

That's actually a quite disturbing lack of grasp on basic realities.

I think I read earlier that Eamon Ryan is isolating due to a family member having been in contact with someone who has Covid- or something like that!

Rumours that Eamonn Ryan is self isolating as a precaution due to contact with a known case

Is it acceptable for someone to turn up to a place of work when they have a cough? Do they need any other symptoms?

Is it acceptable for someone to turn up to a place of work when they have a cough? Do they need any other symptoms?

I wouldn't think so. There is a Yellow booklet printed by Gov that shows the distinctions between covid symptoms and flu symptoms. Either way I'd imagine a person should not.

    Booklet below.
    https://www.communityworkireland.ie/covid-19-public-information-booklet/
    or here
    https://www.lenus.ie/handle/10147/627527

Flu season is really going to cause havoc. It will definitely lead to more tests taken and this will clog up the system on top of everything else.

Thomas Byrne's action shows Connelly in a bad light if he knew he had symptoms this morning before the briefing .

Also his test didn't take place as quickly by the look of it. Maybe it's a seniority thing which is understandable enough given his position.

The Eamon Ryan thing isn't a rumour I am pretty sure that was mentioned on the news, I think they said suspected rather than known though.

You are scraping the barrel looking for any way to critisise.

I had the test result in 29 hours a few days ago so you are talking baloney about a week off for a nurse.

He runs the most important department in the country at present and the whole cabinet were out until he got his result. Of course they are going to get it done ASAP and not in line with the 10s of thousands they are completing every week now.

    Welcome to the real world.
