Well put, I'd add also that the hospital bomb was fired by the jihadi terrorist branch, an amateur anyalyst could deduce that.

Mary lou BB would want to view the 45 minute on the ground recordings of the Hamas assault, from ccvtv, drones, phones and Hamas bodycams. Journalists eyes only, horrific in it's craven inhumanity, but I'm sure the Israeli embassy would give her a copy. As for gaza, the apologists should take their eyes off big brother or whatever their favourite media is, and listen to Pat Kenny's interview with the Israeli ambassador. Her accurate and truthful description on what Northern gaza actually is would make your skin crawl. For the people trapped there by Hamas as human shields, the basement of every block a Hamas store, it must be hell on earth.

Durin the Boer war in South Africa, the Brits used tie the Boers to the front of trains to prevent them being blown up. Hamas have 220 Israeli hostages, but maybe a half million Palestinians, as human shields, about whom they couldn't care less. If it goes pear shaped for them, they'll just all head to Iran, or Quatar. (Remember Quatar? They won the sports washing world cup).

Here is what she said about 'carpet bombing':

Israel's carpet bombing decimated Gaza's medical infrastructure, crippling the ability of Palestinians to help the injured, the sick and the dying. The destruction of hospitals is a direct violation of international law, a war crime, yet Israel believes it has the right to bomb hospitals.

Israeli bombing of Gaza has according the WHO has decimated Gaza's medical infrastructure:

The WHO said it had documented 34 attacks on healthcare services in Gaza since Saturday.

By yesterday, 11 WHO health workers had been killed while 16 were injured. Another five ICRC workers were killed. The WHO said 20 ambulances had also been hit.

Here is what she said about the bombing of the Al-Ahli hospital:

Last night, Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza City was bombed. "Devastation", "carnage" and "a massacre" are just some of the words used by those who witnessed the devastation. Hundreds of innocent men, women and children have been reported dead, their lives wiped out in one horrific instant. Many more lie lost, buried beneath the rubble. This atrocity is made all the more harrowing because so many of those killed and wounded had fled their homes believing they were safe at a hospital, but they were wrong. Last night's bombing of Al-Ahli hospital demonstrates that nowhere is safe in Gaza

She does not blame Hamas or Israel but states that the 'bombing' (note she doesn't refer to it as being 'carpet bombed') shows that 'nowhere is safe in Gaza'.

You really should study the use of 'full stops' and 'different sentences' in the English language.

Hard to see too many tears being shed for Paddy. Not saying he was wrong all the time but the arrogance of the man is astounding.

He clearly saw himself as a Julian Assange type figure with everything going on at the Ditch (slightly less nauseating than his Steve Jobs phase) and thought he could say whatever he wanted. Personally I didn't find anything he said completely egregious but it's a different story in corporate America and they were happy enough to cancel him for saying anything negative about Israel.

Saying that, he's definitely one of the great marketers of our time so we won't have too long to wait for his next grift.

The neigbouring Arab countries do not want to let the Palestinians from Gaza in, because they would wreck their own countries too. Look at what happened when Jordan let Palestinians in.

So she got the explosion wrong in the car park of the hospital. Has she apologised yet, or clarified here speech on her facebook page, about "carpet bombing". Surely the military wing of SF in its day done enough bombing to be able to advise her on what carpet bombing was or is not, before she lectures others?

Has she called yet for the release of the 222 hostages kidnapped from Israel and held by Hamas in Gaza ?

Or does she still have a soft spot for those who kidnap people?

Agree, absolute brainfart from Cosgrove in a business sense. He should have known that corporations will protect the brand and that their Israeli offices administer a huge part of their operations in the region.

Profit comes before honour for these entities.

The plane was on the runway in Heathrow. He got off (hur hur) as the DPP decided not to prosecute.

    Israel has carpet bombed Gaza.

She did not 'blame' anyone for the hospital bombing, she pointed out that it showed 'nowhere is safe in Gaza'.

    All facts tragically,

I can't stand "dead nurse" Paddy, he just acts like a spoiled child when he doesn't get his way 99% of the time. regarding his comments on Israel, I agree with what he said, its probably the only time I agree with him. Its really annoying that THIS is the reason he was forced to step down as CEO.

I think it’s called ‘The Straw that broke the Camels back’ beaks?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,147 ✭✭✭Francis McM

Yes she did, she said "Israel believes it has the right to bomb hospitals"

Even when evidence emerged the fire bomb in the car park of the hospital could not have "killed hundreds" as she claimed and did not come from Israel, she has not apologised or corrected her post on facebook. However, her facebook page has been abnormally quiet since the bombing in the hospital car park, which according to her "decimated Gaza's medical infrastructure, crippling the ability of Palestinians to help the injured, the sick and the dying".

If you do her facebook page, maybe you could put up something?

Israel killing innocent people - bad.

The Provisional IRA blowing up people based on their religion - terrible tragedy.

    Shinner logic.

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,125 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

    Israel has bombed hospitals.

Here's the UN and the WHO

The hospital was one of the 20 located in northern Gaza that were ordered to evacuate by the Israeli government last week. The World Health Organization had called for Israel to reverse the order, which it said was “impossible to carry out” and had deemed a “death sentence for the sick.”1

    ...

The United Nations and WHO have called for the “consistent attacks” on healthcare facilities in Gaza to stop and said that those responsible “must be held to account.”

Do your due diligence and research.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,147 ✭✭✭Francis McM

Hamas did not people or media in for days to see the scorch marks / some burnt car where they claimed ( like Mary Lou who swallowed their propaganda) there were hundreds dead. Nobody believes that now. Do your due diligence and research.

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,125 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

There is no independent verification for that bombing which MLMD did not blame on anyone.

You are fabricating stuff that was never said all over the site.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,147 ✭✭✭Francis McM

When you are in hole, stop digging. She mentioned it ( the bombing of part of the hospital car park) as the main example in her speech / lecture on "carpet bombing" in which he also said in relation to it "Israel's carpet bombing decimated Gaza's medical infrastructure, crippling the ability of Palestinians to help the injured, the sick and the dying. The destruction of hospitals is a direct violation of international law, a war crime, yet Israel believes it has the right to bomb hospitals.

    From Wiki:

"The cause of the explosion is contested. Israel, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Italy said that their intelligence sources indicate the cause of the explosion was a failed rocket launch by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) from within Gaza, while the PIJ has denied any involvement. Hamas said that Israel carried out an airstrike on the hospital. Experts largely agreed that a misfired rocket launched from within Gaza was the likely cause of the explosion based on video analysis and the limited extent of the damage caused by the impact."

Have a look at the photos. Do you really think the scorch mark on the tarmac and half a dozen burnt out cars is where hundreds were killed, despite the fact Hamas would not let anyone near the scene for days afterwards?

Would Mary Lou not know more about bombing, given she had the audacity to lecture the rest of us on "carpet bombing" last week, and given the fact the military wing of SF carried out enough bombing in its day ( 16,000 bombs )?

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,125 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

"Israel's carpet bombing decimated Gaza's medical infrastructure, crippling the ability of Palestinians to help the injured, the sick and the dying. The destruction of hospitals is a direct violation of international law, a war crime, yet Israel believes it has the right to bomb hospitals.

This is factual, see UN and WHO. The carpet bombing of Gaza has seen the medical infrastructure devastated. FACT

    Please NOTE the fullstop.

She then went on to mention the latest bombing which she did NOT attribute to any side, but merely pointed out that it showed:

Last night's bombing of Al-Ahli hospital demonstrates that nowhere is safe in Gaza

Also a FACT and can be stated by anyone without attributing blame. Exactly how the that specific bombing was addressed by everyone who spoke in the debate.

Now please stop making stuff up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,147 ✭✭✭Francis McM

"...the latest bombing which she did NOT attribute to any side"????

Stop making stuff up yourself. When you are in a hole, stop digging. She insinuated it.

Yes, Mary Lou said " Israel's carpet bombing decimated Gaza's medical infrastructure, crippling the ability of Palestinians to help the injured, the sick and the dying. The destruction of hospitals is a direct violation of international law, a war crime, yet Israel believes it has the right to bomb hospitals. "

She was not blaming Hamas for the destruction. She was blaming Israel. She did not address or mention the rockets being fired in to Israel from Gaza, the 222 Israelis kidnapped from Israel and being held in Gaza etc.

Wonder if she still has a soft spot for those who kidnap / abduct / disappear? Or if she ever had?

  • Registered Users Posts: 168 ✭✭CrazyEric

In all fairness Francie, you cut her paragraph in two to try and disassociate what she said. She was directly talking about Israel's decimating the Gaza medical infrastructure and then mentioned the hospital by name. Breaking her Paragraph into separate parts is disingenuous as best and downright dishonest at worst.

This is the full paragraph for the record

"Israel's carpet bombing decimated Gaza's medical infrastructure, crippling the ability of Palestinians to help the injured, the sick and the dying. The destruction of hospitals is a direct violation of international law, a war crime, yet Israel believes it has the right to bomb hospitals. Last night's bombing of Al-Ahli hospital demonstrates that nowhere is safe in Gaza. All the while, Israel's siege on Gaza continues and it intensifies a merciless military bombardment of an impoverished refugee population. We are now bearing witness to human catastrophe on an unimaginable scale."

Another thread getting hijacked by this crap.

Would the two of youse ever STFU about SF and get back to discussing what this thread is meant to be about?

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,125 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

They are two separate sentences with two different points being made.

She goes on to say in answer to Varadkar pointing out that we do not know who bombed the hospital.

Let me just say to the Taoiseach what we do know. We know that Israel has bombed hospitals in Gaza before. It is a repeat offender in this regard. We know that Israel ordered the evacuation of hospitals. We know that Israeli spokespersons have defended the targeting of hospitals in urban settings. Above all else, we know that Israel has been allowed by the international community, time and again, to break international law.

Again, she does not say that Israel bombed the hospital, she is pointing out that they have before and that they ordered this hospital to be evacuated just before it was bombed. All fact.

I wonder are the 3 buckos over at The Ditch worried about their jobs? If the Cosser is feeling the pinch then I can’t imagine paying Roman Rent and the other lads to do in-depth investigations about a FG councillor once getting caught cheating in a college exam is going to be a priority.

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,125 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

a FG councillor once getting caught cheating in a college exam is going to be a priority.

If only that were remotely true about what the Ditch has uncovered.

Back to what this thread is about.  I think Paddy Cosgrove is one of the biggest wa*kers in Ireland. A view obviously shared by those who matter in the boardrooms of Google, Meta, Siemens, Stripe, Amazon etc. And they took appropriate action. Quickly and decisively. As they would.

The next question is, what do - and what will, in the coming year or years - those people think of what is widely perceived in Israel to be the most anti-Israeli country in the western world? Quite a serious question, given our reliance on a handful of multinationals.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,579 ✭✭✭Bobson Dugnutt

Volkswagen gone now as well. A complete car crash. If I was Qatar I’d be questioning whether the Web Summit brand is now toxic for them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,125 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

Youi do know that is a transcript of a speech?

That the paragraphing is done by the person making the transcript?

In a speech you make points, then move on to the next one and so forth.

Edit: I didn't realise the STFU comment was from a mod. So I will leave this discussion now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,147 ✭✭✭Francis McM

It has to be. And I for one ( and I know I am not the only one ) would fear that Ireland would also be toxic for some American multinationals soon ( among western countries ) if the likes of certain politicians here continue sniping against Israel.

Paddy Cosgrove was surprised at the reaction from multi-nationals to his comments, the likes of Michael D and Mary Lou may also find in time their comments had an adverse effect with some.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,593 ✭✭✭quokula

Much like with apartheid South Africa, in the long term it will be shown that most Irish people were in fact on the right side of history. And the more the war crimes, the slaughter of civilians and the violations of international law continue, and the more they continue to be documented and criticised by organisations like the UN and WHO, the Red Cross, Medicines San Frontieres, Oxfam, Amnesty International etc and even people like Greta Thunberg who have large followings, the companies will have to look at whether or not it is really better for their bottom line if they align themselves against all of these human rights organisations and campaigners.

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,125 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

    Like Leo Varadkar?

We know from recent history and, indeed, the history of the past few decades that both the Israeli Defense Forces and Hamas and Islamic Jihad are all capable of terrible atrocities. As a Government, we condemn them unreservedly and unequivocally. I want to be very clear about that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,147 ✭✭✭Francis McM

So he is comparing the defence forces of the most democratic country in the middle east with Hamas?

I am not surprised eyebrows are being raised in boardrooms in America and Israel at not just Cosgrove but certain Irish politicians.
