    Things im looking forward to this year in this thread;
    • The table that does showing which team is on which points level (thats a bad description but you know the one)
    • Non-tribal bantz
    • PLENTY of Fulham chat (its mostly gonna be commiserating / slagging but sure what can you do)
    • Someone posts a pic of something we all agree with and we still find a way to debate it

    Things im not looking forward to this year in this thread;
    • Net spend chat
    • My da' could beat up your da'; Manager edition
    • Someone saying the league isnt competitive for whatever convoluted reason (most lkely by matchday 2)

That table will not be produced until after 10 games unless there is a demand for it before that.

An English football crowd is laughable describing it as a tough place due to the fans. I'd say Palace have the loudest fans in the PL but if you want a mad atmosphere look at the Turks or South Americans etc.

Pretty much all European football grounds would be more lively than English.

Your correct and thankfully so as football has changed n England to become safer for fans and families .

But still doesn't change the fact in England some places are tougher to visit than others ,

Ah I get not the first few but after 5 games instead maybe? 10 is a long time.

What's that got to do your claim of City play with less emotion and won't be affected?

Anfield is one of the quite grounds in the PL

West Ham and Man United have really tough starts.

Could see the hammers in for a long season if they don't pick up early unexpected point's

Its not quite during the big games which was my claim see United and City last season , The City home game has been hugely important the last two season ,

And yes I do believe City play with less emotion in the game hence why there the best side at keeping the ball in England we have probably ever seen ,

Also don't forget I'm only talking about Liverpool and City as I think they are the only two capable of wining it next year

I'm not disagreeing with you here but if a team needs fans to perform that's a pretty damning statement. Not levelling this at Liverpool it applies to all but I'm truly baffled if players can't do a job they're highly paid for because there's no one there singing or applauding them.

Claiming one team will perform better than another in the same circumstances is a bit of a stretch. Get a grip of yourselves. And the conditions are the same for everyone so there's no advantage.

As for this Anfield crowd means more. Don't make me sick. Every teams crowd is great when they're winning and poor when they're losing. You don't need to respond on this cos saying anything more, I've my views and you won't change them.

There is a huge sample size of European games down through the years that indicate a packed Anfield is a huge advantage for Liverpool. You can have your views, you are entitled to be wrong.

The key words there are European games

I've never understood this and agree. Not recently but in years gone by Liverpool had been strong at home and absolute dirt away. It makes no sense to me that a team plays entirely different away from home but it seems to happen.

Well sure, I pointed to an inarguable truth. So we know (even Brinty does, bless him) that a full Anfield is an advantage for Liverpool in certain circumstances.

The next level of the conversation is to take a fixture like Liverpool / City in the league last year. Does anyone really want to argue Anfield wasn’t a contributor to the result?

Yes, even us and Norwich beat City at home. You know yourself the atmosphere in the PL isn't great. City where awful away last season.

No clue as I can't even remember.

Weekly games are standard. I don't think the crowd make any huge difference personally. Then for big games and occassions I think they play a very small part.

Going by the logic that fans play a big part would indicate that sh1ter teams will do better because of less pressure from fans

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,954 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

Just to expand, I was only speaking about Liverpool and City as there the only two I think can win it
I also think the big games will most likely be the difference
I think City are best suited to them games with no fans because they play with less emotion (which is not a bad thing)
So in conclusion I think Liverpool will suffer more of the two in home games of having no fans
I think City will likely win the league

    Well, the opposite I think.

The lower table teams would perform better in from of their fans, when games are tighter IMO.

Imagine a team like Palace, Burnley, Brighton, Villa etc 1-0 up at home in a game against a rival or even a top 6 team. The fans will drive the players on and create a tougher atmosphere in order to try get their team over the line and win the points. The same goes if they are a goal down and fighting for a point etc. A ball goes out for a corner and next thing the whole stand behind the goal gets excited. It does add to to the tension. Some teams do rely on emotion a bit. Stoke did a lot, under Pulis.

I think lower table teams will do worse without fans, and teams like Man City who dominate the ball will find it easier. Man City won't get intimidated by an empty stadium away from home defending a corner but there is a chance that they would in a full Villa Park on a Monday night.

In Europe, yes, not sure how people could think otherwise, it's literally always mentioned when we play big European games at home and there's a significant number of examples.

But the PL is not the same. Not by a long long way. Crowd is rarely a factor and is regularly disappointing at Anfield.

I'd say it makes no difference in as many as 15 of the 19 league games. But there's 12 points to play for in the ones it does, and they're likely to be very significant this year.

bit silly going back to normal tv schedule for the new season with empty stadiums

Interestingly according to the Mail, Sky/BT were offered more games but turned them down as too pricey. I guess there's diminishing returns when you get to the games which would be 7th/8th choice on a game week - they just aren't going to drive subscriptions enough to justify £7M a game or whatever the fee was.

    Sky reckon early next week.
