The only thing in Maguires favour is that the entire stadium cannot sing "you're going to jail in the morning" next season.

So Harry Maguire was protecting his younger sister who was stabbed in the arm.
No wonder he was annoyed and reacted.

Good to see that cleared up.

    They shouldda sent for Dave.

He'd have had Harry cleared, compo for the sister and a grovelling apology from the Judge all sorted by now...

We can all be fairly confident it'll be a fine rather than jail time - but what does this sort of thing do for you in a broader context? I mean, being a famous person, probably nothing - but I'm pretty sure if all this was one of us instead of him, we'd now have a criminal record and never be eligible for stuff like a US Visa etc?

Is this the sort of thing that can impact later in life when he's retired and doing other things, as the criminal record stays with him, I wonder?

Just curious about the balance of real world consequences over time for him, relative to us, and where any crossover may come in.

Plenty of famous people with convictions that can get visas to get into the US. Money helps but he might not be famous enough in the right ways for the US.

Didn't think it was possible for his lawyers to be worse at defending than he is!

Seen as Maguire has been found guilty I wonder will the media go to town on him like they would a Johnny Foreigner or a black player,
The answer is of course they won't

I was thinking of Serge Aurier and that time the UK wouldn't let him in to play for PSG because of his conviction, and crucially needing a work permit because he was not an EU citizen.

Other countries in Europe may have similar rules and with UK players no longer entitled to freedom of movement in the EU there might be some interesting repercussions.

You can stíll ltravel to the states even after serving jail time here,
It all depends on the crime you've committed

Probably opens him up to some civil action by the injured police officers if they were to pursue, he is a rich man apparently, not sure about the travel to the states, thought that was only for crimes of moral turpitude. Would expect that he would lose the captaincy and be dropped from England but you'd never know I suppose.

The narrative will certainly be needing to hear Maguires side of the story and "well dodgy Greek cops, they would suggest bribery wouldn't they?" Nothing to see here

Speaking of which has there been any video of this incident?

Didn't think it was possible for his lawyers to be worse at defending than he is!

Seems like he’s being defended by a couple of creative writers. If the charges against him are being embellished the story his lawyers are coming out with is pure fiction.

You can still travel (travel from the UK to the US doesn't need a visa), but I think it makes it nigh on impossible to get a visa to actually do stuff, like work/study, or even just stay there beyond the usual 3 month British tourist limit, etc
At least, if you're a normie, as AC said, being famous opens doors closed to other people.

Speaking of which has there been any video of this incident?

Supposedly his Lawyer has a video showing the police beating them up,mistreating them(edit) but wasn't given enough time to review it so couldn't use it in court.

    https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/harry-maguire-trial-manchester-united-18824897
Mr Alexis Anagnostaki, who is representing Maguire, requested the trial be postponed as he only received the full list of charges two hours before it was due to commence.

But the court rejected the lawyer's request and the trial started, with a Greek police officer giving accounts of the incident.
Mr Anagnostakis said video evidence, shot by someone outside police station, allegedly showed the three defendants being 'mistreated' by officers and he needed time to view the footage.

I personally hope he is stripped of the captaincy first off

Strange one alright. I’d never have expected them to drop him in any meaningful long term fashion, but seems a bit mad to include him for this round of upcoming games.

Exactly what I was thinking. Daily Mail is just a horrible rag. They've done horrendous stuff to Beckham/Rooney in the past.

There's no question he should be dropped for the next round of international fixtures based on Sterling's dropping previously. It's the smart thing to do. He'll be back in for the round of games after that and people will feel he's had his punishment. Keeping him in will just stir allegations of one rule for some players and another for the rest.

    OK, fair enough.

Here's The Daily Mail V The Daily Mail.
