Is this related to the SF claim that 'carbon taxes in and of themselves do not reduce emissions' without providing evidence during the GE?

its common sense so maybe they didnt think they needed to bring crayons. Carbon taxes are only fair when there is proper alternatives to transport and many other things.

All the carbon tax will do in cases of no other option, is drive up the cost of living. it wont do anything to reduce carbon as people still have to drive if they dont have an option. Working from home initiatives would work better.

Delighted that this government will be approved. They will have their work cut out.
As Yates said earlier, FG have outsourced the government to NPHET for 3 months, now we need a government that can
guide us through the looming economic recession. History may not be kind to FG and the HSE when Covid19 is over. Hard to tell.
Everyone in the Dail will be talking about magical money trees by early 2021!

    Who gets Health?

You'd imagine the greens would touch it... going into government is risky enough for them...taking health would be the end of them

Could you find a bigger cohort of people to piss off other than road users?

Best of luck to Eamonn trying to stay popular in that role.

46 countries now have some form of carbon tax. As usual Sinn Fein are out of touch with normal behaviour.

What do the greens require, is it 65%?

    Two thirds, 66.6%

Wait now...we've just proved that FF and FG are the same thing and it was all a con.

One thing at a time there.

Francie, read back a bit. I have always said they are pretty much the same and should merge

But you didn't prove it. Which is what I was referring to.

    This will be interesting.

If it goes ahead the Greens will be wiped out again. Because FF/FG might throw them a few wins but FF/FG won't put any thought into the bigger picture. Basically it'll be some green taxes which will likely make no difference to the environment without changes in transport for example.

FF and FG will be even harder pressed to make negative claims against each other having partnered up or take any credit alone for that matter.
Hopefully FF get some social and affordable built but with FG in the mix it might be watered down to more PPP.
Seeing FG play junior second fiddle to FF the party 'practically had us eating out of bins' should be amusing.

Hopefully this will relegate FF/FG to Labour party status. In the mix, sometimes a junior partner.

    If it doesn't go through:
If the green knock it on the head FF and FG are still tied in the eyes of the public.
If FG knock it, they can't claim 'stepping up'.
If FF knock it, MM will resign.

I expect it will go ahead. Too many vested interests at stake. More cronyism, more wastes of tax payer money.

    Interesting times.

Plenty of alternative available, people are just too lazy :-)

"More cronyism". Keep repeating the lie in the hope it will eventually become true or at least that nothing will ever be true or false again. Alternative facts straight from the Trump playbook.

Agree on one thing the Greens will be the most unpopular party by Christmas. The Bicycle /carbon tax fantasy is on thing in the heat of June when a bit of an old cycle in your T shirt is just the thing to cool down and get a break from the sweltering house.

Wait for a couple of cold rainy Mondays in November when the house is cold and damp and you cant afford to turn the heat on with nothing to look forward to but a five mile cycle against the sleet. FF/FG will point a quivering forefinger at the Greens and say "they made us do it!"

You haven't provided a single shred of hard evidence of existing current R
cronyism, so how do you expect it in the future? Bizzare, to say the least.

However, you do manage to top it by predicting FF and FG to be relegated to Labour Party status. Then again, the Labour Party got as many seats in 2011 as Sinn Fein got in 2020, so maybe you shouldn't be poking fun at them.

I think you're wrong here. Why would the greens be wiped out? If the PFG passes today, there is absolutely no reason for anyone who voted for them not to vote for them next time. Climate change is real and it's not going away. When its effects begin to speed up down the line, I can see more and more people voting for them.

Also, Sinn Fein have a lot of baggage that they need to rid themselves of by the time the next election rolls around. Hopefully RTÉ won't roll out the victims of the troubles or the tired argument that SF = IRA again before the election, but they probably will. People now see through their efforts to smear Mary Lou & Co., but it definitely sits in the back of the minds of older voters (previous FF voters mostly). If people want to vote left but they don't necessarily want to vote for SF, the Greens are the obvious choice.

I do think the likes of Ossian Smith and Eamon Ryan at times are doing irreparable damage to the party's image in rural areas. They come accross completely out of touch and as if they're away with the fairies.

All of this will affect the Green's share of Dáil after the next election, but it's disengenuous to say that the Greens will lose seats simply because they entered a coalition with FF & FG. It's far more complex than that.

So, it looks like the show is on and an agreement is reached.
    Fair play by all.

Much easier to sit on the sidelines and give out, much harder to pull on that big boy pants and do a deal in the best interests of the country.

SF biggest problem is the current crop of politicians. Let see how it goes with Violet Anne and the crew over the next few years. I can expect to see a lot of Mary Lou on the TV saying she is sorry for XYZ :P:P:P:P:P

Ok, blanchamatics - so going by your comparison's, labour won more seats in 2011 than FG did in 2020.

Maybe you shouldn't be trying to find anything at all to look for some kind of "point score".

You are either very naive or very foolish if you never observed cronyism from FF or FG. From board appointments and wastes of tax payer money, you should pay more attention. It's Varadkar admires and does favours from Trump not I.
Yes, the Greens are likely smirked at after they leave the room. Sad, but that's FF/FG.

Irish Water board appointments. A FG TD quoted as saying 'We look after our own. It's politics, I don't see anything wrong with that'.
The last time I gave you a list you came back with some guff on how things had changed. Now you are trying to claim it doesn't happen and we never had that discussion. We'll see. You can excuse away that new Green Party TD hiring his wife if you like?

I think the Greens will only be allowed away with the taxing portion. This will make them the scapegoats. I hope it's doesn't happen to them but it's the most likely outcome IMO. Not denying climate change, don't ignore FF/FG's ability to use a junior partner as a mudguard.

SF will need more time to win enough people over I'd imagine. FF and FG will help all the other parties do that IMO. Using the traditional 'sure look at them' with each other is ending. I expect more 'Troubles Revisited' headlines at each election. If SF keep their housing stance I'll give them a nod.

Ryan comes across as being more interested in being in government than what that entails for his party going forward.

Happens all the time. Some try make it claims of criminality so they can dispute it. Cronyism doesn't need be an illegal act. I've educated a number of folk on that point yet they persist in trying to cover. All the parties are at it it's just government parties can cause greater damage.
Hiring a driver to the board of Irish Water was a gas one. Sure it's only tax payer money. I'm sure he was the best man for the job ;)
