Nobody is claiming they are grand, but would it kill you, and perhaps save you from killing someone else, to wear one for the limited occasions you are being asked to?

I will consider a mask when people stop wearing gloves, no social distancing and then touching their face and touching other stuff in the shop after it.

Public transport is the only place u need a mask

No, wearing a mask can assist with other hygiene measures when there is community transmission. I do not think we will go onto lockdown again if transmission is rising again in the community, instead we will have social distancing, mandatory mask wearing, cancelling of large events etc. By all accounts of our data, there is no community transmission currently warranting a mass wearing of masks.

Majority dont know how to wear one

    Also, 11 new cases today.

I know I know weekend lag. Restrictions are working. Long live the lockdown. 4,899,750 must wear masks as the other 250 have covid,

Remember, no one was wearing masks in May and up to 3rd week of June and yet new cases kept falling..... it seems like no matter what we do, new cases are still peanuts.

Did you miss we were in lockdown during that time ?
Could that possibly be why cases kept falling

I don't think people who don't wear masks are selfish, I know a lot of people who don't even some who are very worried about Covid. What I do think is selfish is people who rage against those who are pro masks with real anger and say things like "the government better not make it compulsory that would be ridiculous!!". I honestly feel if face coverings had been made compulsory from the get go so many lives could have been saved and the economy stayed at a normal level of functioning. Now we have the worst of all worlds, well done folks.

Surely now you've got that wrong?! All the rage is vented by mask wearers towards non-mask wearers from what I've seen on this thread. Saying "It better not be made compulsory !" isn't having a go at people who wear masks. Personally I've never worn one & don't intend to ever wear one but those wearing them can wear them as often and for as long as they like as far as I'm concerned. It's their choice. As I've said before, yet to see one convincing argument in their favour that hasn't been contradicted.

Are you just a macho keyboard warrior or do you have any scientific knowledge to back up any of that ?

Good man. Be a prick and don't protect anyone else.

My 80 year-old mother not wearing them either as she's entirely unconvinced. I suppose she's a stupid bitch then. She was telling me she got harassed on the street the other day by a mask-wearer as she didn't have one on.

Oh so you've pulled the other one after all! Don't let hospital numbers and new cases get in the way of your stubborn attitude like a "good man".

It's a wonder the adult population gets through the day and does their often complex job yet can't put on a mask correctly...truly surprising.

I would have thought the clue is in the article.
Ireland is not in the Schengen area of free travel and has a Common Travel Area with the U.K.

Ireland obstained from voting because the UK are introducing a two week quarantine from the 8th of July witch affects our common travel area.
Ireland was formally asked did they want to take part in the travel bubble before voting but instead decided to continue with our travel advisory and quarantine.
Optioning to form travel corridors instead.
As soon as the UK drops there quarantine we can join the free travel area

You haven`t considered that just maybe they are venting at non masks wearers because the main function of masks is to protect others.

Yes, it's amusing to see the rage from those on these threads directed to those who don't feel masks are necessary at the moment. All I need to do is go outside and go about my business to see that the vast majority of people are not wearing masks so they just look like whinging keyboard warriors venting on boards.

I'm sure that the government are quite happy that the UK have given them a free pass to avoid participation in the travel bubble

What gives them the right to that? Its optional so no one can bully someone else.

The UK already have the quarantine requirement do they not ? Was brought in during early June, a few airlines in the UK started legal proceedings against it.

The UK looks set to relax these restrictions from 6th July with the list of countries not having to quarantine due to be published soon. The very same as the suggestion here regarding air bridges. One would imagine that the UK will open up to Europe sooner rather than later

    https://www.bbc.com/news/business-53199089

Edit: Sorry just re read it and your suggesting due to CTA and UK approach we're looking to form corridors instead of just opening up to the EU.

Paschal said earlier today - June unemployment 22.5%.

His prediction in April was that unemployment will peak at 22%.

    April unemployment 28%
    May 26%
    June 22.5%

Oh boy. Lets keep them pubs closed and tourist out of our country, we want to be poor and unemployed and we want to be alone doing so.

Missing my point Charlie. I was questioning a previous poster's assertion so, yes, you've effectively agreed with me. Thanks.

First off, I don't agree with someone getting abuse for not wearing a mask. But does your mother have a genuine reason for not wearing one, bar being unconvinced?

Even if there's a very small chance of preventing virus transmission by wearing a mask, surely it's better to wear one than not wearing one at all.

Hi Ginger. Why did you join or re register just as things were ramping up?

The Government is not listening to you. So work out another way to get them to do what YOU think is best for all of us. Are you a TD or what? LOL.

Anyway FWIW I agree with travel restrictions outside of our own country for now. We still have to be VERY cautious.

Just as the govt was very happy to defer all decision making to the experts at the NPHET, regardless of implications to the economy and even public health (cancer screening etc), up until a few weeks ago when Leo decided to accelerate the reopening against Mr Hilohans advice.

BTW we are quarantining anyone coming from GB so I'm not really sure the CTA justification holds up. Our borders are not open to GB, only NI. Govt probably using this as an excuse.

I registered when 5 phase plan was announced.

Since, only 4 phases exist. Im someone very close to a well known TD. And yes, govt did listen to us, on this thread.

Actually, she's surprised me as she's just refusing to get caught up in the hysteria (her words) and is just going about her business as best she can. Just to be clear, she's not behaving recklessly in any way, she abides by all the social distancing advice & stuck to all the lockdown restrictions etc.

The right perhaps to not wish to be sprayed with infectious droplets ?

That sounds like complacency. I remember people back in late February and early March saying this thing is overblown and there's nothing to worry about, yet here we are.

You need to stop this fear mongering Charles.

Yes, here we are. 0.006% of worlds population died with covid. 6 months on.

Where on Earth are the new government? They’re basically allowing Tony run the country. This is a joke. At least Leo stood up to them in the end and reopened.

Has there been a change in policy? Have they increased restrictions?

    NPHET do.

Equally NPHET don’t have the economic and public policy expertise to deal with the restart

Has our new Taoiseach made a statement on the matter yet?

He better say something definitive very soon, or he will lose more of his gruaig.

Do you think time is needed to get a grip on the brief before making definitive statements?
