You only choose the facts that suit your narrative.

Tyrone is on the island of Ireland, yes.

Pointing out that 55% of 8 mil cases have recovered suits my narrative?

Tyrone is not in this country, dont get confused.

Also, that was your pretty poor attempt to undermine the obvious statistic of 0 people dying from 1100 meatplant infections in this country. What are you at pointing out that 1 meat plant worker died in Tyrone ?

    This reeks of desperation.

Passport office is not shut , I work there , been in work every day this week. Shifts being worked 7am -7pm daily. Service has resumed, 1400 hundred passports processed today alone, but there will obviously be a backlog after 3month closure . During Covid emergency staff were working, rest of us we were redeployed to social welfare payments.

    What were you doing ?

My partner applied online on Sunday to renew her passport. It came in the post today! That was quick.

I was pointing out that meat plant workers aren't as immune to the virus as you'd like to promote. Headline - ZERO DEATHS IN MEAT PLANTS. Reality - just north of the border, a meat plant worker who contracted Covid died. The same meat plant from which workers staged a walkout prior to the death due to social distancing not being addressed by management.

Damn. That in bold is actual economy scare mongering. even to a guy like me. :pac:

In all seriousness, we shouldnt just disregard our tourism industry.
    150,000 - 250,000 jobs in Irish tourism.

Leo should make an effort and lift that idiotic 14 day quarantine form requirement and 14 day quarantine recommendation. It is absolutely useless, a 3rd of arrivals dont even pick up the "mobile phone" when govt rings them to ask if they are quarantining.

Disregard if it means saving more jobs than losses

Tourism economy in Wales on 'brink of collapse'
"Whilst once being protective, the Welsh Government's policies are now, as we are in the middle of June, causing further damage unless there is urgent change."

The statement says Welsh Government is causing harm because of "its continued stance of remaining closed for business and travel" and the borders are "effectively shut".

The group's new plea to Mark Drakeford follows what they claim was an answered letter to the first minister last month and warns "the Welsh tourism industry is on the brink of collapse' and "without a clear roadmap to reopening such as those published in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, the government is causing harm".

So, pubs can open but only as restaurants?
I can't go and just buy a beer or five?

Can I buy a coffee and sit in the beer garden?

Turns out Sweden now ranks third in the world for Covid deaths per million after the UK and Brazil. Ireland are 20th on the list.

Find it hard to believe Ireland is that high, I guess we were a lot more accurate and stringent with our recording of cases compared to other countries

Which countries do we make the majority of our tourism revenue from? The US the the UK. I’m all for opening up internally, but I think it’s a big risk to open up the borders fully. No way should we be allowing the Americans and Brits to enter here without a 14 day quarantine, or at least testing and then release upon negative test. Without those two countries entering, our tourism revenue won’t make much of a dent, so is is really worth opening up? The risk of a second wave and another (albeit possibly localized) lockdown is just too great, for tourism revenue that will be well down anyway.

New Zealand aren’t even letting anyone else into their country, bar NZ nationals and possibly Australians, but yet they still managed to get imported cases after being nearly a month Covid free. If they couldn’t contain it with their measures, what chance do we have?!

Also someone else said on here maybe yesterday that Brazilian students are/will be flying in to “study English”. We can really do without that.

Nope you can't go in just for a drink until July 20th. Until then they're essentially restaurants.

Now your local publican might still let you in for a quiet pint who knows. But by the rules no going in for just a pint until 20th July

We joined the EEC in 1973 and this is our broader country. I don't care about Brazil, UK and USA. We are European and we created the EU including through Saint Columbanus https://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/columban-the-patron-saint-of-a-united-europe-1.961368.

To conclude, EU should be open and restrict anywhere else according to risk.

Yeah cheers, I won't be rushing out anyway, just seeing if there might be a place to go have a beer or coffee that's not on the street.

And as I was a frequent pub goer, I don't think I'll be rushing to go back to a packed bar to pay €6 for a pint again.

So paying €9 for a burger provides protection against Covid but if you only have a bag of crisps you catch it!

    Good to know!

Some nonsense. They should just be let open on the 29th. What is going to change 3 weeks later?

It'll give them 3 weeks to see any impact of reopening basically, shorter hours so no normal 12.30 last orders etc.

But I agree come the 20th July it just overnight changes that you can go for a pint without food, as if the virus knows on the 20th that you can just go for a pint.

I'd hope that the guidelines are followed but theres going to be plenty of pubs that will just say to regulars and locals, book your table for 9pm and thats it your in now for the night. Shutters down and who's in is in.

Wow. Someone managed to equate 3 months with no draught beer with 800 years of oppression.

I think there is an element of tracking numbers as we ease restrictions in case we need to reimpose some. If there is no spike in Phase 3 but the numbers rise a bit in Phase 4 we know opening pubs have a bigger impact than opening restaurants.

Therefore if the wheels do come off in the winter and cases get too high, they will close pubs but not restaurants. That way we don’t have to shut everything down again.
