that is not new at all. The majority of sightseers have always skewed older

Speaking as someone who’s transitioning that way

There’s always outliers, but generally young people go on holiday to do stuff and older people go on holiday to see stuff

And most trips have a mix of both anyway

Ok cool sounds pretty good then.

I wonder if they time the flights well could they capture connections to the US and Canaries, generally very popular with Norwegians

There are already lots of flights from Norway to the Canaries so unless fares are low I doubt there's much of a market there.

Couldn’t see any direct flights from Trondheim, so if they launch that route, potential passengers who desire the canaries (very popular with Scandinavians in winter) would be as well to connect in Dublin as anywhere

Tromso is being claimed here, not Trondheim, and it has Gran Canaria seasonals - not checking whether that's Summer or Winter though!

Trondheim actually has even more sun destinations as seasonals.

    Ah thanks, my mistake!

The last time I went down to the canaries there was a group of about 6 Swiss passengers who were connecting from Geneva . I thought it was interesting and surprising. But there is obviously potential there .

Following the recent announcement by Tui of them switching to partner airlines in 2026, will we see EI operate more sun routes on their behalf?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,298 Mod ✭✭✭✭Locker10a

They already sold seats on EI flights so I suppose that will continue. I’d imagine any routes not covered by EI and FR will possibly be covered by a charter ?!
I wouldn’t know off the top of my head what routes they would be. But it’s possible a further deal could be done with EI

They had a monopoly on DUB-NBE, DUB-LCA and ORK-CFU, so that will be presumably be covered by a charter like Smartlynx, or maybe EI, still up in the air atm.

Thanks! Good for Cork. EI have also increased frequency to Lyon and Munich from Cork to twice weekly (although the extra flight to Munich seems to be only a short period from end of November to Christmas).

Or not in the air yet, as the case may be. (I'm here all week.)

so how many aircraft will they base in Cork for this winter does anyone know. Taught I read previously that the possibility was 2 x 320 neos but what would the chances of a 3rd aircraft which would more than lightly be one of the older 320’s

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭TheBrownBird32

    2x 320neos, 1x 320

Apologies for butting in two days later, I'm not a regular poster on this thread. Tromsø is also a major stop on the Hurtigrute, the Norwegian coastal ferry route. This route runs daily from Bergen to Kirkenes and calls in many ports that aren't served by "regular" cruise ships, since the ships on the route are a vital part of the local supply system. Many people do either the full round trip, I did it back in November '24, others go only one way. There's also a surprising amount of people who just go for the "highlights" portion of the trip from Tromsø to Kirkenes though. When I did the round trip last year, I was surprised at just how busy our ship got in Tromsø!

The companies operating on that route are Havila Voyages and Hurtigruten, if you want to dig deeper.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

Can anyone tell me why EI will launch CUN like a week after Christmas? So many people would’ve went there for a Christmas getaway and they launch it when everyone’s back to school and work

Their aircraft are very busy in December and the 1st week of January.

They launched it to cover a drop in fleet utilisation.

On EI111 SNN-JFK right now in Y and was able to do a quick count on my way to the lav; J full and 15 empty in Y for a 92% LF. Impressive stuff for a Tuesday imo - not too many (any?) connections either in SNN so that’s O&D for the majority.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24 ciandonn

There isn’t much opportunities to connect besides Paris which is only twice a week unfortunately so it would have to be practically all O&D.

I guess some passengers could do their own connection through a ryanair flight but you wouldn’t find that on any official website and would have to be done personally

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,579 ✭✭✭✭cson

Tbf there’s opportunity to connect in the States (as indeed I am doing) so there’s some connecting pax, versus say the IAD route where I’d estimate generally more than half the aircraft is connecting.

I will say these A321LRs are starting to show a decent bit of wear from the utilization, tray tables, seats and lavs are looking a bit rough for a 4 year old aircraft in LRE.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,342 ✭✭✭kevinandrew

The short haul hops they do and general high utilisation won't be helping matters there.

It won't happen anytime soon but they should refit them with the XLR product. Once the A330s are done, the LR will have the oldest cabin product in the long haul fleet.

I flew SNN-BOS at the end of last month. There was only one free seat in economy. Business was full. Great to see these flights doing well.

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 10,129 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tenger

I think you have stumbled upon the plan that is almost confirmed……….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 384 ✭✭Shamrockj

agree with the comments about the A321NEOLR, the seats are looking very worn / bobbly already on the fabric and a lot of the seats don’t stay fully upright. I guess they are 5/6 years old now and at the mid stage of the seats life but not ageing very well. Also the old style A330 seats on -DUZ/-EAV are very very bad, seat cushions are falling off, seat fabric isn’t fully fitting the seats also. A refresh is needed.

Does anyone know how many passengers Aer Lingus carried in 2024?
