The public have been hugely compliant in their efforts. Social distancing is more or less de rigeur. Sorry this just isn't credible anymore

Going by what most people report in here and on social it looks like I'm not in a minority believing this. I certainly saw it yesterday in LIDL. I hadn't been there in 10 days and it was even worse than before

If everybody followed the restrictions this would have been over in 2-3 weeks, cases keep increasing as community spread is obviously picking up again

What are the figures for tranamission by people flouting the restrictions?

Does anyone know yet if they will extend the 2km’s for people? There is a wood near me which I used to go up to on a regular basis & it’s depressing to say the least that I can’t go up there for a walk anymore...

People have to shop. Unless they're going to drop groceries to the door.
Maybe AGS should be patrolling there if it's an obvious problem? Not been to a Lidl in a few weeks myself.

Someone said here yesterday it might be 5-10 km, I haven't seen my 86 year old parents in 6 weeks, the loneliness will kill them yet :(

I mean you really must have no idea what's going on to think that! The HSE sent loads of infected people into nursing homes. So cool story on everybody causing that spread

    I do, it's logical

It hasn't gone away in 2 or 3 weeks anywhere. Once it got in it was going to run its course. I think compliance has been very high. At least where I am it has anyway.

Yeah I haven’t seen my boyfriend in 5 weeks. Come May 5th that ends for me regardless of what the government say.

    Why wait until the 5th?

People don't need to shop everyday for few items, they can do a bigger shopping every 9-10 days, keep the distance in the queue is also a very easy task even for teenagers/young. Not sure why these things are so difficult in Ireland

Visited several shops recently and kept going when I saw the queue outside others.

All had 2m spacing outside and a person controlling access. Lidl included.

Main roads quiet and no sign if anybody ignoring restrictions.

Don't think we can reopen schools this year.
Better to set every school up with online teaching/support for families and target September for return

Hopefully primary schools will open before the end of May. What are they keeping them closed for?

if there is no community contact the virus can't spread, whatever length of time it takes to run its course - 3 weeks/1 month - after that there is no more spreading in the community. We are still getting high daily updates, so obviously a lot of people haven't been compliant

You don't have a clue how some people have to live then- many wouldn't even have a car to carry a big shop. sure "Let them eat cake"

Depends how near is near, but if you need it to clear the head, just do it. There's a wood a bit over the 2km from me, had enough so went there earlier, spent an hour sitting on a pile off logs, chilling out, listening to the silence and bird song. Did me the world of good.

700 more cases. This lockdown is a waste of time with those numbers.

Getting worst of both worlds. High number of cases for our population AND destroying the economy.

How many cases would there be with no lockdown?

The mere fact that you visited several shops is enough evidence that you are not staying home. There are plenty of reports from people all the time that contradict your statement. it is what it is, a lot of people have been compliant but too many haven't

Take your chances, depending on the time of day you might be able to drive straight up, preferably before the sun gets high. There fair weather Gaurds anyway, if it's sprinkling and due to clear later head in the shower.

I know somebody who gets a few items for their mother every day in the shop.

It legalises their visit to an old person who won't see anybody else.

I don't think they are breaking any rules.

BTW newspaper are classed as essential, so going to shop for one every day is legitimate.

Shopping trolleys are used all over the place. No longer the granny things they used to be.

    Needs must.

    This.

It's like we're bold children, if you don't eat your dinner you won't get any dessert.

Well some people are acting like that now though and ruining it for the majority, so if you act like a child expect to be treated like one.

But just to add, they need to come out with some sort of detailed plan early this week instead of just a general extension of the current restrictions.

If you go down your local LIDL just to buy 4 cans you are an idiot, simple as that.
Also, no need for couples to shop together. A lot of people are making a genuine effort to make this work, the rest are just taking the p**s

Or maybe social distancing and bankrupting the nation is a fruitless exercise that won't mitigate anything.

Its hardly a proven science, with plenty of qualified people out there questioning the efficacy of the lockdown.

Yawn, you can't buy a newspaper in the butchers, or milk in the newsagents and the fruit and veg. needs to be bought elsewhere.

They tested 9,000 people, we tested 25,000, they numbers are of course going to look lower
Sweden is not doing that great, while we could have done a lot better if people hadn't dropped the ball with the restrictions after Easter

How will a shopping trolley solve the problem of the car. Tie it on to the back?
