All of this is contingent on the HSE largely meeting its targets. I'm hoping they present their own plan, and detailed timeline, on how they're going to source testing kits, reagents, ramp up contact tracing so that we, the public, can then work in tandem to these proposals. We can do our bit but what about them doing theirs?

What happens when the HSE inevitably fail to meet their targets, like they've already repeatedly failed to meet their targets?

Pretty disheartening news from Germany after their relaxation of restrictions. The medical authorities here will probably hold off a lot longer based on that data. Looks like we'll be living under the current restrictions for many months to come.

Not really, many german scientists dont see a substantial rise. It's only 1 output.

No you're wrong, will be just like the on-budget national children's hospital, that was very competently manged....

Yea hello again 10th of April....
I'm inclined towards wait and see what happens on Friday and what the actual plan looks like. I do think there has to be some movement on May 5, because IMO the public will not blithely go for another two weeks.

I am not calling for an opening up of our economy, but I find it hard to believe there would be almost no difference to us whether our internal economy is shut down or not. No difference in having over a million people dependent on social welfare handouts etc.

Due to the fact that global economies are so integrated, there's no doubt that the slow down/stop will have a global affect. At least the Brexiteers can now blame Covid-19 rather than Brexit for the tanking of the UK economy in the coming years.

There's not much more they can do under the current laws to further restrict the people, unless new laws are brought in, which could take time...

I know some would like to see a form of martial law come in but that's a bit too extreme given the transmission rate is below 0

    Complete and utter bull****.

I suspect you haven't a clue about anything outside your own bubble.

Harsh. I happen to agree with him. I can say with certainty, I'm not in his bubble.

Our R0 was reported around 1 or below on the 13th April. The reports since then have shown it to be further decreasing, the last figures I saw were around 0.4 or 0.5, it could be lower than that now.

So for 2.5 weeks our reported values have been in the target zone and decreasing.

If the R0 value relates to approx. 1.5 weeks before it was published like that report suggests, then we've been in the target zone and decreasing for around 4 weeks.

The HSE can get ****ed, we've done our bit. Time to save lives now by avoiding a social and economic disaster.

A load of bull. The over 70s are always allowed out. They had the same freedom was everyone else. It was advised, for their own safety, but not mandatory. Now they’re saying they’re allowing them out for one hour’s exercise and passing that off as lifting some of the restrictions and giving us something back, bit it was never a restriction in the first place!!

Well, most of the over 70's are following government advice to the letter...

    people-may-be-told-to-stay-home-to-allow-over-70s-exercise
Restricting the general public from going outside for short periods to allow older people “cocooning” to leave their homes for exercise is under consideration by the expert group advising the Government on measures to combat the spread of coronavirus.

The HSE testing capacity is planning to go up from 10,000 to 12,000 and then onto 15,000 about May 18. It's how the overall process from swab to test result to contact tracing responds. We should start to see some evidence of that from this week.

So France is re-opening schools from 11th of May, wait, let me look at their “numbers” since ours do not seem to be good enough...
Right 7k tests per million of population in France vs 31k per million in here

The HSE plans lots of things. Their plans aren't worth the paper they're written on. What happens if they fail again to hit those targets come 18th May?

Our schools and class sizes is a major issue. Can’t maintain social distancing it seems. I thought primary school would be opened before end of June but now I am not so sure.

Planning on driving from north west to south some time after the 5th. What's the best day of the week / time of day to avoid the Gestapo?

There's nothing immature about it. We've hit out targets. The HSE haven't hit theirs. We're watching restrictions eased around Europe while we're being told how naughty we are, trying to deflect from the HSE's failure. People can't see their families and friends, they're losing their jobs and businesses because the HSE are a complete and utter shambles.

Well i have family in France and there is not much difference, the whole social distancing is a nonsense anyway, whoever is meant to catch the virus will catch it social distancing or not, especially in school setting

Wait and see what the announcement is. If it's an essential journey, there won't be an issue anyway. If it's not an essential journey, why would you bother?

Your comment read like a spoilt child not getting his way. The reason for restrictions easing around Europe are due to the fact that they are further down the road than we are. They've had harsher restrictions than we had in the first place. Spanish kids got to go OUTSIDE for the first time in six weeks at the weekend. They also have better equipped health services to cope. You said it yourself, the HSE is a shambles. Does that mean we should ignore restrictions out of spite and let it be overrun?

Government was told yesterday that the department of social protection and department of business are both out of budget in June, the whole budget for the year gone. Now I'm sure some people on here will say they can just borrow, yes they can borrow but they cant borrow indefinitely, we've already borrowed and its unsustainable going forward.
Given the minister for finance was yesterday urging for more business to be allowed to reopen there is now quite clearly a point where dept of finance says economy must be allowed to reopen. Minster for finances press conference was pretty bleak I just get the feeling its alot more bleaker than he said at the time.

It mirrors what the frence prime minister said yesterday, they were starting to relax restrictions to get back to some normality in order to save the economy from ruin
