I dont think anyone is paying heed to the 5km rule for a while now. The guards don't want to be patrolling it either, they got dealt the sh1tty end of the stick there

That may be your local experience, different levels of adherence throughout the country. I'm in Dublin for instance and people are sticking to the 5k here.

Except for all the 211 D reg cars you see around town.

Most likely locals with D reg cars. Kerry's way down the list of staying local in fairness with only 50 to 60% of people staying within 10k, let alone 5k, that's from January, I only assume it's worse now. Dublin has the top percentage of people staying local at over 80%.

Don't forget, the worst time during the pandemic was at xmas time when locals spread it to locals, the usual suspects like schools and people with holiday homes that get the lazy finger pointed at had nothing to do with it.

In fact during the summer when it was claimed (again) that (hordes) of people were travelling to their holiday homes the numbers were way down.

When everything you need is within 5K then it's a lot easier to stay within the 5K limit. A 5K limit in Dublin is a lot different to a 5K limit in Kerry.

Precisely, we have nothing within 5km of where we are.

When we lived in the city we had 6 pubs, an off licence, a post office, 3 shops, a butchers, and 3 takeaways within 500 meters.

    Big difference.

Very true. I'm not in the city centre, but we do have a healthy village lifestyle where people walk to the bakers, butchers, greengrocers etc...

However, the data shows that city dwellers are less likely to leave their 5k so it's most likely the people you're seeing around are locals.

We got stuck by lightning a few days back and lost our wireless internet. When the chap came out to replace it (guy from the village) he asked us to stay away from him as he just replaced the wireless link on a holiday cottage locally for an English couple who had arrived from the UK the day before (he said he was told only after he had replaced the link).

All the Kerry locals who've registered their new cars in Dublin are so overcome with guilt they lose concentration and forget where they are. :pac:

That 20% of county Dublin that might not be staying where they are, works out at two times the population of Kerry.

Funny enough I remember when the last travel lock down was eased the ice cream shop in the village was extremely busy with visitors from all over Kerry who were making their first ever trip to parts of the county they had never been to before. There was a great atmosphere around the place.

I'm looking forward to a trip to Tesco, that's how sad my life is.

Less than 5 in Kerry again! The NEPHET press briefing was early today. 411 cases in Ireland, which is a drop again thankfully. Unfortunately 6 deaths though :( RIP

And a 14-day incidence of 27 - when an area goes below 25, it's green in the European colour coding!

There's a huge amount of people in the capital that can't work from home, from municipal workers, bus drivers, bin personal, to the hard working doctors and nurses that run the national hospitals. Myself and most of my friends families have holiday homes here and abroad and not one of them have left their 5k to even visit them for upkeep. The traffic stats back that fact up.

Don't fall for the bitchy malicious gossip. These times bring the best and the worst out in people.

Going to work in an essential industry, or other essential reasons for traveling (Such as food shopping) are exempt from the distance based travel exceptions. The rule is (Outside of essential reasons) to stay at home, except to exercise within 5km of your home. The segment of people not complying with the rules does not include people who work in essential services.

I'm not saying that the place is full of dubs, I would not know, the few places I have been going outside of the house, like Tesco, are hardly tourist hotspots. Just pointing out that the 20% of dubs who are not complying with the guidelines is a significant number of people.

Also, we have been in level 5 lockdown for all of 2021 so far, and buying a car is not a valid reason for essential travel, so I'm not sure how many locals are driving around in 211 D reg cars.

Probably not, most of the posters here would be 20's - 40's....the 70's-80's agegroup wouldn't be hugely represented here I think

I was just down in the village and someone commented to my wife "you've got something on your face", followed by "You can't catch it outside you know". I wont be surprised to see numbers rocket now, with the better weather, Easter. and all the local expert virologists.

Probably the same experts that have been calling it a scamdemic from the start, it's amazing how they have been able to hide their vast medical knowledge from the rest of us mere mortals for so long.

I honestly thought it was only fake moon landings and avoidance of physical work they specialised in.

I saw a 211 kildare reg recently but it was a work vehicle of a local person. I drive about an hour to and from work and have seen english regs and ones from all over the country but i assume they could still be living or working in Kerry. 20% of Dubs is a lot of people but I think its widely known that people are going outside their 5km but I'd hope there isnt much staycations going on, sure everything is closed anyway.
