Monaghan v Cavan would have been the only one from the football worth watching for the neutral - at a push. Some great hurling games though.
I would have said the live games would have been the Munster ones.

It is a stark reminder of the silly structure of the championship.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

John Horan on the Sunday game ruling out games as long as there is social distancing. No games behind closed doors either, if its safe enough for contact sport it should be safe for reduced crowds

Listening to John Horan on TSG and there will be no GAA either club or county this year while social distancing is a requirement

He spoke very very well. Hats off to him and the organisation

Very firm on it, speaking a lot of sense.

Yep. Our politicians could learn a bit from him. Thats what a bit of leadership looks like, even when providing bad news.

Great to see. Hopefully put the nonsesne spouted in this thread to bed now. Could never expect lads to play if it's not safe for people to be in close contact

what he didn't say was what he meant, which was there'll be no games on until we can get the crowds in through the gate

Was very clear to me, that the safety aspect was the big issue for him and that the GAA would not be a factor in anyone dying from Covid.
But then I am unable to read his mind unlike you.

Why would he want to start with club games if getting crowds through the gate is the main objective?

Haven't always been a fan of John Horan but he was pretty clear. If it's not safe for a crowd at the game, it's obviously not safe for players.

I was thankful last night that John Horan said what he did,

Its just not possible to train and get teams ready using social distancing, its too much of a risk for everyone involved, as he said last night the last thing we want is a club to become a cluster

Id love to see the games back but we cannot rush this

It would be ideal if the games were brought back after Clifford decides to hang up his boots. Just to be on the safe side. ;)

Yesterday just felt weird, I'll never give out about a grim Armagh 0-9 Fermanagh 0-7 type game again.

is it just inter county football that wont be played until October or is club football included?

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,193 ✭✭✭✭Kerrydude1981

A Club Players Association survey has shown that over a fifth of GAA players are unwilling to return to training before a Covid-19 vaccine is found.

Club football will resume on 20th July according to the current plans. Although players will probably want 3 or 4 weeks training before a game.

Do you mean the GAA's plans or just the government roadmap? Just because they're no longer barred on the 20th of July doesn't mean the GAA are certain to resume playing that day.

Social Distancing will not be a requirement in a few months time thankfully if we keep going in the right direction with the number of cases decreasing as they are. We must stay the course to get our wonderful games back.

We never benefited initially as an island nation but I feel once we get the cases down to near zero and borders and travel remain locked down we will start to benefit.

The final piece of the puzzle for a full return to club GAA IMO is a rapid testing capability that way any remaining cases / clusters can be traced and dealt with very quickly.

    Wishful thinking.

Social distancing is here for a while.

The GAA are not keen to go back training while social distancing is still a requirement.

I think John Horan summed it up very well on The Sunday Game, he said something like " if a cluster were to emerge from a GAA club it would be a very poor days work by the GAA".

You could get it anywhere in fairness, if you got it in tesco would no one ever shop in tesco again?

A cluster, not an individual infection.

If a cluster develops Inna location and the source of it turns out to be the GAA club now that wouldn't be good now would it ?

To be honest with you, a cluster could come from a workplace, GAA club, a church etc it wouldn't make me judge a GAA club for it. it is important we get people back playing GAA for their own mental well being. we cant hide away from a virus forever, life must go on.
