Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It doesn't have to be a single loop I think. If you do your local Parkrun course even if it's 2/3/4 laps I'm sure B will be happy with that.

It will depend on what’s deem essential travel by that time. My local parkrun is 20km away!!

Sadly no longer in the 45-59. If you were paying attention to Strava you'd see I recently celebrated the half century with a half marathon.

Will have a go at 20min. Can do it on a good day but not every day is good nowadays.
I recently set up a course for a 5k in May which may not now take place. It's kinda out and back with a loop in the middle. Starts and finishes in the same place. Would love to use that if nobody objects.

Sounds like a bit of craic....might as well. Give it a go! Prediction 20mins 30; Age cat 35 - 39

Unsurprisingly B I am a bit confused! :pac: What has been the end result of today's posts. Are we looking at a once off age grade race or a TT to decide on handicaps for a future virtual race which will be a handicap affair?

Sounds fun. My Parkrun PB is 24.10, so would be good to see can I dip under the 24 minute mark. Age cat is 30-34M

It’s age-graded using the calculator in first post. Sure no reason why the ungraded results couldn’t be used to handicap the next event. ;)

D, could you look at that calculator? To me it doesn't allow for M and F times to be compared. There isn't enough change in adjusted times when you change the setting from M to F....

Well it’s based on age category WRs for each category so I’m not arguing with it! Sure it’s just a bit of fun. There are a few versions of this kind of calculator and this is the one the organiser chose. ;)

I’ll organise what the masses want!! Maybe a 5k TT minus any calculators suits best with winners in each AG category and an all out male and female winner? That might be easier then to pick fairest teams for Luke’s Ekiden/Relay idea?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,484 ✭✭✭✭Murph_D

No need to change anything IMO, Barry - the method you chose allows all of the above anyway, with an AG comparison just for fun.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,855 ✭✭✭✭average_runner

I was happy with the 5k, but if we want a 3k race first that is ok

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,017 ✭✭✭Itziger

Please everyone, 5k. Just 5k. No point to point (downhill). That's it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,484 ✭✭✭✭Murph_D

Just get out there on the day and run a legal 5k as fast as you can and send your results to Barry, everyone. It's that simple!

Going by my recent efforts, I’ll be hard pushed to run 5k, let alone with any speed.

I’ll throw myself in as tail runner in the women 50-54 cat.

Expecting big things from people for this. With pro circuit gone, the regular planes of medical supplies in from China and the testers kept at bay with social distancing I’m expecting some Cathal Lombard style improvements in the coming weeks

Ah f*ck it, I'm in. Haven't a hope of running anything decent (for me) in a solo environment but sure it's only a bit of fun :)

    Two questions...

Does it have to be the 25th or would the 26th count too? (not to he overly complicating it so apologies).

Does it have to be one 5k loop or could you, for example do 1.5x laps of a 2 mile loop?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,601 ✭✭✭Wubble Wubble

I might give this one a whirl. 45-49.

I don't want to hear oh i ran a course that has a lot of trees, or my Garmin was acting up on the day. Run 3.10 miles or more or your result ain't counting. I won't bend anymore rules, ye know whats expected so go train.

Will do my 3k tempo tonight. Did two of these so far over the last two weeks in local park, 12:57 and 12:46. Its the loop of Griffeen park for the parkrun, two bridges so not the fastest. Will use Grange Castle for the 5k

Ooooh, spiffing idea on the post-race refreshments there lad. All going well I might bring the young fella on a bike for 'moral' support, coaching reasons and as a carrier of the all-important IPA.......

Stick me in for the craic. M35-39

I was in the best shape of my life up until 3 weeks ago. Pulled a calf muscle, followed by Club shutting down, running groups banned, put into isolation (as medical precaution) so loss of motivation, this migth help. Might scrape a 5k by that stage.
