Do people not realise that unless you have a severe underlying illness or are over the age of 65 the most symptoms you'll get is a cold?

Yeah most people seem to be aware, but headless chickens make a lot of noise.

Incidentally, a funny observation. Did some food shopping for my parents in quite an affluent area and expensive supermarket - they had run out of fresh pasta and various tapas items. Did my own shop in Aldi today. Had just about run out of toilet paper. Priorities!

Do you not realise that the majority of people have parents and grand parents over 65?

    What exactly are they hiding?

They could have informed the parents and then released the school name, trying to hide it which is what it looks like they did worries people.

We just did a roundup of all the hand sanitizer we panic bought when swine flu was threatening. I could make millions on the black market.

Great we ve established most peoples parents are elderly, what do you suggest we do?

Literally the exact same as what you could do with the flu. People weren't this scared with ebola ffs. Bit of cop on is needed.

Except, according to current trends, the coronavirus is 10 times more lethal for elderly people or those who are immunocompromised. Bit of cop on as you say.

Where are they trying to hide it?

They sent a letter to everyone in the school.

An all boys secondary school in Navan had a skiing trip to Italy last week and 3 teachers had dinner with a later confirmed case.

They phoned the HSE when back and they were advised to still go to school.

The school itself doesn't even have soap in the bathrooms half of the time.

My source is a relative who is a teacher there.

They tried to hide the school effected (and are still clinging onto this policy) despite it being impossible to do so.

All it does is undermine peoples trust in the authorities.

We all know the illness itself is minor for the majority of people but the HSE are attaching a stigma to it by attempting to cover things up.

Its a really bad communication policy

The common cold can cause pneumonia in older people. My grandmother spent 2 months on life support because of it.

They have been effectively ignoring it until a week ago, i was in hospitals and the signs everywhere still only warn anyone whose been in china in the last 2 weeks.

Also flights from effected areas should have been stopped weeks ago

    What about people coming home?
    Would you ban them too?

Dont see the issue with not naming it.

But how are they making a pigs ear of it ?? There is such a thing as patient confidentiality and gdpr
I think the appropriate response would be to protect the patient's personal information while disclosing very clearly what locations are at risk due to their diagnosis in order to allow people affected to self isolate and await testing in the event that they show symptoms. But maybe I'm "over-reacting" and "hysterical" for wanting to contain what is now a worldwide pandemic.

There's a school in Goatstown (Mount Anville) who also had students over on a ski trip to northern Italy last week. Surely all these schools students need testing asap??

    That is simply not true.
Some people get pneumonia...that is not a cold...Jesus Christ.
Also old people are fecking people as well!

Older people seem to be harder hit by it but plenty of younger people have been killed from it as well.

    What exactly are they hiding?

Which school for example. It has immediately become known all over the internet. They should have known that's what happens and said which school themselves. Thinking they could send letters to parents of 400 children and not expect it to be leaked is incompetence. I'm no disaster fantasist but I am concerned that the people running our country are imbeciles stuck in 20th century ways of thinking and are inclined to put the economy ahead of people's welfare.

They can afford Italian skiing trips but not soap?

Best thing for her to do is self isolate

    What difference does it make?
