Because everyone in Ireland knows each other

All things considered, I think the Irish authorities are doing a really good job in managing this.
It's a fact based response to an evolving public health risk.
It looks inevitable that there will be more cases here, maybe many more, over the next few months and all the current efforts are directed at slowing the spread of the virus to a manageable rate.

I think were very fortunate to have only two confirmed cases at this stage, and I'm sure luck as played a part in that, but it's an awful lot worse in other countries right now.

Making a balls of the release of information saying a genuine announcement to a band was fake this morning makes them look like a joke. You can't help thinking is there 50 or more of these cases in action. Surely they are not releasing lots of letters per day that they can't identify genuine letter they themselves issued.

Context... look at the lengths China had to go to to bring about a decrease.

    2 cases can spread exponentially.

Diiference between China and rest of world = time

I was talking to an Irish guy who lives in China the other night. He came in to the bar I work in. He's been out of China 6 weeks or so, but is going back.
He says they seem to have got it under control. But they went to extreme lengths to do it. He lives in a city of 10 million, which was put on lockdown. Everybody had to stay at home. He was allowed out for 1 hour a day. There was military/police checking 3 or 4 times a day that he was at home. The city streets were deserted. When he was allowed to go back to work he had to pass through 3 temperature checks before he could even get in the building. And in work he had his temperature checked at random points. He said it was completely crazy for a while, but it seems to be working. Multiply him by 10 million and that's the lengths they went to in that city (didn't get the name of it). But as he said, the Chinese have the man power and mentality to be able to completely lock down a city.

I know nothing same as most of the posters on here but what I have posted is correct regarding flu seasons.

The greatest killer in history as far as flu goes was the "spanish Flu"
Scientists offer several possible explanations for the high mortality rate of the 1918 influenza pandemic. Some analyses have shown the virus to be particularly deadly because it triggers a cytokine storm, which ravages the stronger immune system of young adults. In contrast, a 2007 analysis of medical journals from the period of the pandemic found that the viral infection was no more aggressive than previous influenza strains. Instead, undernourishment, overcrowded medical camps and hospitals, and poor hygiene promoted bacterial super infection. This super infection killed most of the victims, typically after a somewhat prolonged death bed.

The day has ended. The carnage resumes at 12:30 am.

Stop being so dramatic. Carnage. More people died on the roads today. I don’t see you salivating over those numbers

They love saying "We have nothing to hide but we have something to protect."

They think giving a location will reveal the persons identity and stop people coming forward (hasn't stopped people in other countries).

    These are the options:

    1. Say Case X came from flight Y, visited locations Z on dates 1/2/3
    2. Say Case X is from Y in Dublin.
    3. Say Case X is from Dublin.
    4. Say Case X is a cyborg from the dreaded East.

so I am meant to flying to Verona mid April and staying in lake Garda in April. So into Veneto which is now under do not travel from DFA.
Will aerlingus give me a refund now? Or do I need to go through travel insurance?

hotel was paid upfront....so I am guessing I can claim on insurance if they won't refund? (They are only willing to move to November for some reason)

Will call Allianz insurance tomorrow obviously to check, but would love a pointer if anyone an idea.

Well done, well done, you know what to do.

Is there a "no travel" instruction from DFA, haven't time to look it up. If DFA say no fly you will get a refund. Not sure from whom though, most likely your Travel Insurance.

Strange that flights are still operating to and from the area if so. Be careful!

Why do they even bother specifying that it is the east at all? Why not just say Ireland if youre going to be that vague, 2/3 of the population live in 'the east' of the country

While it might say the HSE on the outside, on the inside they all still think and behave as if they're in the old regional Health Boards.

The HSE are being so careful and vague in the information they are given you wonder if they should bother at all reporting cases. Would probably create less worry than saying the cases are in the East.

Wait for Aer Lingus to start cancelling flights - gray area as it is only an advisory to avoid at the moment

Your saying Google? But living where?

Did I mention Google anywhere? Just speculating as there is no other information, so filling a vacuum, as you do. Add in the WFH test environment. Doesn't take a genius.

But it could be someone from Dalkey or Ringsend or Greystones, or Rathnew, or Wexford or Kildare. Take your pick.

The information is so precise isn't it?

There is an avoid non essential travel to 4 regions in the north now (since this evening)....so essentially the same as China.

Tbh I wouldn't have been going not when I saw the numbers climbing at such a crazy rate. I have had pneumonia in the past and tbh wasn't keen on getting it again. I think the avoid non essential travel would also totally invalidate my insurance anyway if I went!

Hopefully the insurance pays up! The hotel especially was a serious price.

Flights to northern Italy will be cancelled - but your flight is in April, so too far out yet. You could ask for a refund, but you might not get it until a bit later if cancellations continue into April.

Going by the media the risk level is somewhere between needing to take a Lemsip to recover up to putting a deposit on a lead lined coffin for your departure from this world.
