Given that old people are much more vulnerable to this disease and healthy young people are fine, I think everyone under 70 with no preexisting medical problems should all be invited to the Phoenix park for a mandatory sweaty orgy

We all get the disease together, let it burn itself out it out for a month while the elderly people chill out at home watching matlock eating tins of prunes and bassetts liquorice allsorts and not opening the door

Sounds like the first chapter from Stephen Kings..The stand.

    That didn't end well.

They should have just payed the rugby behind closed doors and got it over with.

The Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals in Cortina d'Ampezzo are going ahead next month with no spectators allowed.

Now to figure out where we can have the St. Patrick's Day parade behind closed doors?

Is he OK and have they contacted him yet

I posted a few nights ago that it was a school-goer in Wicklow. The reason they're not releasing any details beyond "somebody in the East" is because we're talking about a minor. When the woman in the other case travelled through Dublin airport to the North, they provided more information.

As I said previously, this was inevitable. It's highly likely many are infected by now. Once again, the main question really is "how much damage will this virus do between now and a vaccine"? Hopefully not a lot, but it's a great unknown this early in the game.

We have enough food in this house probably for 3 weeks easy, an Irish freezer is never empty. I haven’t stock piled either.

Would be great to get the freezer emptied out.

Why have we not put a travel ban on Italy?
The government needs to wake up. This could have been avoided.

The most important thing is a big ramp up in testing, the South Koreans are the role model all developed countries should be following, if you find people with covid-19 quickly you can avoid disaster situations like the west coast of America.

Not denying the importance of testing. However, we have had two cases of the virus coming into Ireland via Italy.

Many countries across have restricted travel in order to prevent this from happening. Why didn’t we?

Seven the number of people who have died on Irish roads since Friday.Should cars be taken off roads?Just a thought.

northern Italy's economy had already been sluggish, the Italian government debt is equivalent to 133% of GDP. The COVID virus is going to deal a body blow to an already punch drunk country

    They were lucky...

The incubation period is up to 14 days and there are far more cases in Italy than in England.

Car deaths are not contagious. Not relevant to this topic.

When car accidents become contagious and the figures start doubling everyday, certainly we should think about it. But for now I think we are fine.

As someone said earlier maybe we are a filthy lot. Why don’t HSE organise an ad campaign on tv about the importance of hand washing and not coughing into the air or into your hands. Many people are just not aware of these things or have never given it a second though. An ad campaign would raise a lot of awareness not just for this virus but in general as well. Might also give the pen pushers something useful to do.

2 of my housemates keep coughing into the air, not even a token attempt to cover their mouth.

Is there some kind of 'coughing for dummies' poster that I can print and stick to a door?

I suppose this way the entire East of Ireland can be classed as an affected area. (as per hse guidelines on what action to take if you have symptoms)

Huge area though taking in several counties. You think some dirty git who never goes through a hand washing routine and coughs into the air is going to take any notice when they hear East if Ireland, no way. But pin it to a county and yes even that dirty git will probably start to improve their hygiene routine because there will be county wide awareness. But hey this is Ireland.

An intelligent thought. I've had to deal with hundreds of people who can't grasp what you've grasped, keep that line of thinking.

Details are being held back to deliberately encourage speculation and rumours on social media. This speculation (and non-existent 'panic' which is supposedly causing) will be recorded and subsequently used to justify a crackdown on social media and the free exchange of information over the internet.

In the near future I expect sites like boards.ie will not be allowed to operate unless they employ 'fact-checkers' (censors).

Car accidents aren't highly contagious. It is literally the opposite of an intelligent thought.
