This is crazy to me! How could they have been open without a licence? Were they pretending that they weren't serving alcohol?

I know there was talk of licence fees being waived for 2020 because of covid but, liquor licences are renewed every September and, in order to get a licence, there's a lot of steps involved aside from the fees. I wonder did Mr. Ritz (I've no idea who owns it) think, because fees were waived, he didn't have to apply in the usual way?

In order to get a licence, you have to serve notice on the Gardaí, the fire station and the courts and your intention must be advertised in the newspaper a month (or so, can't remember the exact time period) before the application. Any and all publicans must do this every year so, Mr. Ritz can't really plead ignorance of the process.

No it's not their responsibility to check if a publican has all the details in order, that's the guards job, which the reality of is they really just assume everything is correct, and for a general license it is. Normally the solicitor would handle the paper work, its pretty standard. It is the late licence that often gets missed by all sides, and rightly so, ridiculous the fees charged to just get an extra hour of service

I can't see it as I don't use Facebook, but what an incredibly stupid thing to do. From what I have seen, there has been a very good relationship between these guards and pubs in Waterford, tramore, kilmeaden, and else where for years now. I can't really say for sure of any renewal applications been blocked or looked in to for a long time, especially since judge harnott retired. Making accusations on Facebook is really just kicking the Hornets nest and looking for trouble.

It seems difficult to believe that a newspaper would print a story of this nature if they couldn't back it up, particularly because, in order to apply for a licence, a publican must first advertise in a newspaper. You'd imagine the N&S would have very easily checked that part of the story before printing.

I was out for an afternoon walk earlier within the 5K I was walking along the quay when the tramore bus pulled into the bus stop I couldn,t help but overhear what the bus driver said to the two people looking to board the tramore bus " I can't leave anyone on the bus unless you have a proof you're a resident in tramore residents only I have specific instructions from the guards " .

As you say the numbers are static. Going down slowly perhaps but still far too high. Especially 2+ weeks into L5 + no schools.

It ain't looking good for us locally for the time being. Constantly towards the top of the numbers list sadly. I am resigned to the restrictions lasting until after Easter at the earliest. In case you are wondering Easter is the 4th April!

Roll on the vaccines. Guess science has definitively won the age long battle with religion!

Actually I'd prefer if they did, I'd prefer one long LD than 20 more small LD's.

I was in town today(to go to the pharmacy in case the stay home police are watching) and there must have been a max of about 20 ppl in there, mostly between Dunnes and Dealz. So I dont know how its been spread in this city TBF.

BÉ bus drivers are not known for being helpful but in this case they might be doing everyone a favour.

Its spreading in factories,i know of one multinational that its rampant in and people who have tested positive from there and subsequently family members getting it from them ,all this seems to be swept under the carpet although in fairness to Darren Skelton he did contact our four TD's about it on Twitter last week but that seems to have fallen on deaf ears!

Not me, I checked back on the gov.ie site to see. I did a comparison between briefing and the following days numbers and it's a mess. A few look like typos which does not surprise me one bit. Wexford went from 4483 to 4815 yesterday and then to 4721 on the Hub today.
Often see on the gov site the main page will have 1 number for the total of case and another on the briefing page. Considering it's a government site you would think it would be doubled checked. I contacted then once about it and the inability to add and I got a bullsh*t excuse about privacy of patients etc.

Are people from New Ross being sent to Waterford to get tested? Then the numbers come back and all positives are attributed to Waterford before being adjusted a day later?
