We had a slight dusting of snow here in south Laois this morning. Settled well on nearby hills above ~200m.

Plenty of wintry showers in Letterkenny all day, I think 'wintry mix' best describes it as there's random intervals of rain, hail, sleet, graupel and snow

Cold in Ennistymon Co Clare, getting cloudy now.
6 Celsius but with cloud cover coming in that will probably cool things down.

All the paths are dry, drying for snow as they say.

But more than likely just hail rain and sleet here, too close to the ocean.

Well technically it's snowing here near Riverstick Co Cork since 1405h. It's not sticking but it's cold and wet..

Does not like there is much if any meaningful precipitation on the way from this so even if conditions were favourable for snow it would not amount to much.

Cold wind in Sligo but not cold temperature and 7c

Wind still far too strong for snow

Snowing on northside of cork city but not sticking obviously - still, so pretty :-)

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,443 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Looks like it's been making a token gesture to snow on the northside of cork city.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,883 ✭✭✭pauldry

Rain coming in off Atlantic now that will fall as rain in Western half of country but snow in midlands and East and North.

Just checking how the observations are matching the GFS model soundings. For Knock at midday the 06Z forecast run sounding matched the observed surface temperature and dewpoint (3.6/-0.5 C) very well. For Casement, the forecast temperature (3.9 C) was correct but the dewpoint (-1.6 C) was about 2-3 degrees too low compared to observed (0.9 C).

The forecast for 18Z is better, showing light-moderate precipiation in the form of snow, but it edges back out to marginal in the 00Z forecast. Again, this is the GFS, so a lamppost watch may prove to be more useful later on.

Wet sleety rain in carrigaline for about 15 mins around 2.20pm.

Blue skys now though and dry

Very cold today in Cork only between 1 and 3C now.
Was hill snow around early though just sleet on lower ground. Strange day who would have thought we would max out at 3C under a southwesterly wind!!

Looking at the 12z run what really stands out to me is a serious ice risk on Sunday night!! Everything comes together....saturated ground, winds easing and upper temperatures very low!! The gritters will have their work cut out I would think.

In the meantime further hill snow tonight for some areas with plenty reports of snow I would have thought. A line East of Galway through the Midlands after 10pm looks a good fit!

Falling as sleet now readily over the ocean, snow showers tonight in the west/northwest, fizzling out as it reach the Midlands and the east later tonight.

Not much precipitation forecast for tonight, just light showers that will fizzle out quickly, might be a dusting for a few areas though.

Slight dusting at Wicklow Mountain peaks but a little red sky to go along with it.

As squarecircles said above looks like the W, NW. N Midlands this evening, cloud bank showing up on the radar making it's way to the coast. Don't know if it will make it's way towards the E .Might even get a shower here in Kerry, I'll let ye know if we do :)

Still plenty of showers piling in here but mostly of hail and sleet, even in higher parts of the town around 150-200m asl its nothing more than sleet so not expecting anything too intestesting here

Some recent sferics off the W coast from the area of heavy rain. Some big convection out there , could produce big localized falls if it made it's way inland.
