Emailed them 'we are discussing what the next stage of competition will be'

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,371 ✭✭✭StevenToast

This is my first post on boards. Just want to thank everyone for their useful tips and experiences regarding this whole recruitment process.

I've never applied for a public sector job before and it's been some eye opener!!

How many more stages can there possibly be?
    1. Initial Application (December 2019!)
    2. Aptitude test
    3. Detailed Application Form
    4. Video Assessment
    5. Who knows???

MaryIrish is telling us they are "discussing what the next stage will be"...

It must surely be a Final Interview?! I think anyone who has gotten this far deserves a place on the panel! Best of luck to all....

    Toast.

I agree with Toast, what eles could it be only final interview? At this stage maybe via zoom etc

  • Registered Users Posts: 225 ✭✭Anonire

Who knows really, Perhaps they will combine scones of the tests, Online assessments and application form and then rank us accordingly.

I imagine it's more than likely online interview though.

StevenToast the last few revenue comps I did went very smoothly and the time lines were very nice. At least the 1 year panel only starts from when it was created.

Thanks Anonire..your posts have been very informative....I see you are juggling with an AP competition at the minute aswell!

Are you a current EO in Revenue?.....how do you find working there?

'we are discussing what the next stage of competition will be'

As mentioned, it's surely an interview, whether it be face to face or via Skype or Zoom. I'm also sure that whoever of us are lucky to pass that stage, then our whole performance and contribution to the entire competition is looked at in regard our overall score.

I suppose they are also discussing post final stage to when a panel is selected. Due to COVID, theres a large percentage working from home, which will make it more difficult to train people into their new roles and operate new systems.

Normally in these competition, each stage is stand alone. How your marked in the previous stage is not taken into account once you progress to the next stage & everyone starts at an equal playing field. Your mark in each stage is ranked as they may only call a certain number of people for the next stage at a certain time but let's say 100 were called for the interviews, you all start at 0 & what you are marked in the interview is your final mark & panel placing from just the Interview mark's. I would love if they decided to rank according to the video assessment marks as hate the thought of another stage but who knows.
When I did the EO Audit & Compliance competition a few years back, that was how it was marked, everyone started at equal place for the final interview & panel only went on how you scored in the final interview. It may have changed but not that I have heard.

The EO did change for the recent comp you were called to interview based on performance in the supervised tests and the interview was a pass or fail.
I agree would love to be marked based on the video assessment instead I always manage to not do myself justice in an interview.

Oh, all different again, ever changing.
When I did mine back in 2015 there was no supervised tests. You completed the competency form, shortlisted for a preliminary interview & then called for a final interview if you passed.
Interviews not my strong point either.
Hopefully they will let us know soon to put us out of this waiting game!!

Very different so there was no form to be completed here until you were called for interview if I can remember correctly. I guess they like to vary it all up. So who knows what could be the next email. But yes please put us out of our misery.

If they were going to issue an OOM from previous rounds, surely they would have done that with this weeks email?

Hi Ollie did you get back in the comp? maybe i have you confused with another poster.

From my limited experience of revenue recruitment they usually say prior to a stage if the results of that stage will be used to form the oom so you would imagine they would have said it before now, but if i have learned anything from boards its that anything is possible. Nobody has any answers at this stage its all only speculation and wishing and hoping.

I predict Revenue will pull another rabbit out of the hat for the next stage and stall the process further......maybe another aptitude test!!!

I think they are also testing the endurance and patience of candidates!

I'd say there is going to be an interview either skyp or zoom, which i know nothing about.
I heard that there are face to face interviews for PO and AP from a friend in service going on at present and a few weeks ago

having said that will they make us go on a train to dublin with Covid prowling around and possibly air born.
will we be wearing masks at the interview - hide my blushes anyway.

I too hate interviews - there so fake - dreading it and the thoughts of taking out those notes and trying to learn them is killing me. i hope they give us plenty of time for that.

Toast - I know there have been 4 stages to date
if we were in normal times there would be the 5 - degree qualification, unsupervised test - supervised test - complete competency form and interview.

Yes they are obliged to vary the stages, particularly from the Unions. As was mentioned here previously some people are not good at the online assessments, some people are not strong in interviews etc. so mixing it up affords candidates who are strong in certain areas but weak in one a fighting chance.

I have noticed that in most of these competitions, the initial first stage is usually online assessments, (numerical & verbal). So, if you're not good at these, you are out, even though otherwise you could be perfect for the role, have required qualifications & experience.

Anyone hear anything on the next stage? I have a feeling it could be quite a while before we do hear.

It's the online tests in particular that the Unions have a problem with as they are very much a specialist thing - you are either naturally good at them or not - and it is no reflection of a candidates true ability in most cases.

For internal competitions they have been used less and less but are still used, I expect this to be replicated for open competitions, the problem is the number of applicants is quite often so high that interviews at Stage 1 are not practical and the other option of filtering based on application forms is not ideal as many applicants will simply get a professional to do their form for them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,371 ✭✭✭StevenToast

You would hope that there has been quite abit of "filtering" done at this stage.....

Based on the video assessments (a quasi interview), Revenue could easily review application forms and online tests already done to form a panel.....

Final Interviews could then be done as positions arise...

No heard nothing, MonkeyLover why do you think is will be a while before we get anything back from Board?

Even if they just gave us a timeline - say "no earlier than end of August or the like, at least we could get on with life.

and people will be going on holidays - down the country for me - isolated holiday home - so that will be july and august etc
And don't to bring a laptop with me on holidays or anything AO related, this my time and we all need that break for our well being.

There are also people studying for professional exams at the moment, be they Accounting or Tax....and the last thing they want is stressing about the nature of when and how this next stage will take place!

I'm sure everyone has their own reasons for wanting to know the plan now unfortunately it won't speed the process up. :(

Best of luck to those studying for exams.

StevenToast hopefully they are thinking along the same line as you with the interview as jobs arise.

To be fair in this comp it seems they shortlisted based on the form so you didn't have to be the best in the tests only reach the qualifying standard. I can see why it would be good to vary it up, gives you a good mix of abilities in different areas.

    Hopefully we hear something soon

For that very reason you mentioned....holidays. August is one of the common months that staff in general take their holidays or avail of shorter working year. Im sure Revenue staff are no different.

Another reason I would think, is the situation we have at the moment with Covid-19. Most of Revenue staff are WFH, so I'm sure that will add to the delay.

I'm also sure they will also have to plan and decide how they will go about training people to the AO role before they even form a panel, (as the panel only lasts one year) due to Covid & WFH.

But I agree, it would be nice if they gave us a timeline. And maybe they will soon, as it is only 2 weeks since we were informed that we progressed to the next stage.

Enjoy you break in your isolated holiday home, its great to get away from all the madness & we all need a break at this stage 😀

Just to note that a number of new AOs have been recruited by Revenue during the Second quarter of the year. Its good to see Revenue hiring and gives some hope for this campaign.

    From what Panel?

  • Registered Users Posts: 225 ✭✭Anonire

Ollie you beat me to it.
I don't think there is any open revenue panel in place for any part of this year to date.
Does that mean they owe some positions to the open panel or that all the positions are now filled and bad luck for the open panel?

Thank you for the update galantais. Always good to see some movement

The PAS open General and Finance Panel I'd guess, and Revenue ICTL panel

It doesnt say Ollie although it seems to be primarily from the ICTL panel so that would indicate Dublin.
