Anyone else looking forward 2022 already?

Yup, finding the whole thing a bit deflating to be honest. I felt the sport was building some momentum the last few years with RB and Ferrari winning races, and the emergence of verstappen and LeClerec. Real shame see the gap to the Mercs the last 2 qualis.

Mercs untouchable - I can't see much changing in 2022 in terms of one team dominating (though a second this far into rule changes is unheard of )

Unfortunately what can change in 2022

I don't see how Merc can drop without having a hand or two tied behind their back, I don't think anyone can catch up and keep up

We'll probably see Red Bull and maybe McLaren take a win or 3 towards the end of this season, think a little more positively before we go to Australia or wherever for the first race in 2021 and same again in 2022

With limited development allowed and basically the same cars for 2021 as this year, hard to see anything other than next season being another Merc domination.

Ross Brawn has a lot to answer for at the moment. He was put as director of sporting as he made his money when he sold the team.

He sold the Brawn team to Merc. Do you think he cares about his old team a bit too much?

When he arrived at the beginning he had cars in wind tunnels (I even seen them waiting for the testing) They made rule changes half way through the year and everything.

Now nothing when the number 1 team is 1.5 seconds a lap quicker than everyone.

Kimi is outpaced by giovanazzi now this season, can see him retire for good.
F2 brings interesting drivers up. Gzhou for the Chinese market, tsunoda for Honda if both qualify for super license. Need to be in top 4 of the championship.

Kimi is finished. No pace. And Grosjean is another one on his last legs. He could've caused some serious incidents today with his antics.

He's worse than Arsene Wenger having to say he'd have to review the footage but saw nothing wrong initially

Kimi has history of going on prolonged runs of poor form. But this doesn't look liep he's going to recover. There's no glimmer of hope in that performance. There a wasn't good one lap pace or good race pace.

He's had a good innings but he's bring nothing to the table anymore. In truth he's been in decline for a few years. It's OK to let Kimi go.

I think what need to happen is that Mercedes do not developed or change there car or engine atall over the Winter and let the other teams develop there cars so they can then catch up with Mercedes. It's not like Mercedes would need to do anything else much to there car anyway and it would give all the other teams a chance as well as making the season better. The problem is how do you get Mercedes to do that. Would the FIA pay Mercedes for the 2 or 3 months it would stay closed?

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

    Development tokens

    100 90 80.... 30 20 10

Reverse order of The grid. Updates cost tokens.

Even if the FIA did offer to do pay Merc to shut down, I don't see why Merc would accept. It's pretty much match-fixing, it'd bring shame to everyone involved.

Besides, it probably would be solving nothing; Mercedes have put together a perfect "winning machine" of a team, but the others are helping them quite a LOT with their completely clueless development. If you check the laptimes, Red Bull are just about as fast as last year, Ferrari are much slower.

If you "stop development" for Mercedes now, chances are they'll still be fastest for quite a while.

Rumours of Vettel to Racing Point/Aston Martin for next season seems to be gathering pace.

Ted was saying in his Notebook (I know!) that it was all but done and due to be announced this weekend before Checo's positive test

Could see Mick Schumacher in the Alfa next year if he's any way competitive in F2. Maybe Checo and his sponsors to Haas?

I imagine he'd take a seat at haas if it was offered. But it's the worst seat on the grid. They're the team with least in-season development and actually go backwards as the season progresses. Alfa and Williams aren't much better at in-season development in recent years.

Joe Saward reckons haas is the most likely team to withdraw. Haas is an engineering company above all and it's usually good advertising to be in f1 but not good to be so far off the pace and lack the skills to develop.

Checo and Hulk linked with Haas. Checo's money possibly key to keeping them on the grid for 2021. Shwartzman is also supposedly ahead of Schumacher for an F1 seat now.

If Haas were to drop out, would that mean some teams havng to run 3 cars?

Can't see Mick getting an F1 seat next year to be honest.

No. There will just be 9 teams

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,185 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

He'll need to finish in the top 6 of the F2 championship to have enough super license points for F1. He's 9th at the moment so has a bit of work to do. He hasn't been setting the world on fire anyway so can't see him getting a seat in 2021.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,436 ✭✭✭Harika

If Haas decides to bail I would assume mazepin buying it for his son.
Schumacher needs to outperform his Ferrari junior team colleagues Shwarzman and illott. Else it's his name only that brings him to F1.

There are other sources saying he needs more points as the 40 points needed for a super license expire on a rolling 3 year basis. He got 30 points for the F3 win but he'd have lost the points from the 2016 F4 win this year. Maybe he does have it but in any case his on track performances wouldn't warrant F1 at the moment, his name recognition might get him a seat though.

As he had the super license he just needs 300 km during a test supervised by FIA.

Fair enough. Still think he's not the next in line based on pure driving performance to come up from F2. But his name certainly helps to put him closer to the top of the queue.

He (and possibly Ilott) has this done aswell. He tested for two days last year during the in season test at Barcelona. Mick did a day each in the Alfa and Ferrari. Ilott did a day in the Alfa.

Renault protested against the Racing Point again (the brake ducts specifically) after yesterday's race. There is a chance the FIA will finalise their ruling on it this week before the 70th GP.
