And the worst thing is that the Paul Murphys of this world will continue to tell these people that they are victims of the state, that they are not receiving enough, that they shouldn't have to contribute, thereby perpetuating the endless cycle of dependency (and a solid voter base).

Some socialists, whatever happened to each his ability?

I checked Dumb/Great Facebook Status thread and
    unfortunately found nothing
Yeah I found the tread earlier alright but there's nothing about this subject therein

That's because I never said there was anything about the subject within it, I was saying, completely away from the topic at hand, that I always see people, on Facebook, typing really badly in the most comical fashion, and that the Dumb Status Thread was practically a goldmine for all of that kind of thing.

Nothing to do with the current topic

    (Thanks blade1)

Can a cop just walk up to somebody and simply state "you are under arrest" without stating what crime was committed? He didn't even state that he was a garda and could be a peado in a clown suit looking for his next victim!
The filming started with the Garda off the bike, with his helmet off, so I'd say he said it already.
Fines dont work regardless of social class. Just look at the perception of speed cameras in this country.
I drive, and can say that people speed less in areas where speed vans are known to operate.

In the US, 3 strikes and they are imprisoned for life.

How about an Irish alternative; 3 strikes and you're sterilised.

The goings on featured here point to the reason why we shouldn't be building mass 'social housing'.

Social / affordable housing. Let those who can't afford/have no desire for a 450k luxury house in a private managed estate have a chance of buying a basic four walls and a roof for a more affordable price and mix in with social housing. Lots of different kinds of people on the housing list. Careful selection of who to put where, unfortunately it only takes one bad neighbour to make everyones life hell but surely you could get round that with some sort of 3 strikes and you're out contract for the social housing.

We're at 4% unemployment. Those scruffs are the exception rather than the rule. Please don't tar everyone in a council house the same as that family of mutts.

I would go as far as having something similar to the container housing for people who have caused problems in accommodation and cannot be put anywhere. If we run with a 3 strike and out rule it has the knock on effect of impacting families.

Don't be silly. He'll probably be compensated for the emotional trauma inflicted upon him. If falling off a swing is worth 60k this is surely worth twice that.

These kinds of incident wouldn't have to damage the reputation of social housing if our justice system actually removed these individuals from free society in the interests of protecting the public, as it is supposed to be doing.

Let's suppose there is a higher amount of violent crime in a social housing estate than a private one - the bottom line is that all such criminals should be behind bars anyway, and if we could get that part right it would become a moot point.

Nobody should be walking around with double digit convictions for anything remotely involving violent or harassing behaviour without having spent several years at a minimum behind bars. Nobody.

We're funding the lifestyle choices so yeah we should have a say .

    Thanks for that

I have to ask: should all people on social welfare payments be tarred with the same brush you are holding?

I'm on disability payments for quite a while, and the way things are going, probably for the rest of my life. And yes, I did work, for years. In all sorts of shyte jobs to pay the bills but a few major health problems screwed that up. I'd be out to work tomorrow if I could but nobody would employ me now.

Btw - I agree with most of the posts in here. The Garda was in the right in that video. You'd almost be guaranteed that not one of that family has ever earned a cent/penny in their lives.

Please don't assume that everyone that takes welfare payments are feral Garda fighting scum and hooked on JPB and slabs of cheap beer.
