10yo who hasn’t won in over 2 years but he’s reached a price where I can’t leave him . Has a 3lb swing with Decision Maker , has a couple of placed efforts lately that wouldn’t leave him miles away here . Down in the ratings , back at Southwell and with his inform regular jockey back up .

A good day for 10 year olds . Capable off this mark, goes well here and while the jockey isn’t rock solid by any stretch , she gets on all with him .
Dead heated over 6f here before Christmas in a good time and has 5f form too, 2nd twice last year over CD in a better grade than this , running well on the clock both times .

Last one for today , I’m on this one at a bigger price so I wasn’t going to add it here but at 14s he’s just about still of interest . Better off at the weights with Elliots and should be more at home over 7f

Just a little observation you might find interesting but Matthew Smith a very astute young trainer from Meath sends Political Policy to Wolverhampton to have his 1st run for them in the 5.05 race.Matthew made history last year when he trained a horse to win 3 times in a week at the Galway festival and only has about 20 horses altogether so this is an unusual tilt for him and there has already been a nibble or two for it in the market. Make of this what you will but I will have a little E/W on it.Good Luck.

Good trainer , he’s not far from me . I have one of his , MINDSMADEUP in my tracker with no explanation why ... which is handy .
I like Political Policy , backed it a couple of times with Gavin Cromwell . The market move was interesting last night , the only concerns are fitness and sometimes they reckon anything from here that goes and runs on the sand in England is part of some masterplan and they are often overbet as a result .
If you got on at any of the bigger prices , fair play , looks a good ew shout . Pedigree doesn’t shout Tapeta but if he’s tuned up he’ll stay well and has fair ability . If they threw a few hurdles in he’d be a right good bet ...

I’ve had a small bet in the race for interest , the fav @ 7/4 , and Power Home . Very small money though

    Good luck with yours

Yeh Fav looks good to me too especially with the best jockey in Britain at the moment on it.Ben Curtis is on fire.Trainer in good forn too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11 hugh janus

Would there be a possibility that Smith hitched a lift with Elliotts just to get a run into it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 518 ✭✭✭MaxBet

Yeah , could well be the case

    Thanks for this.

Got it at 12/1 just before the off, a great ride by the jockey.

TAKEONEFORTHETEAM unlucky not to get closer and Sonnet Rose less than a length 2nd . The wait goes on .

    4 down , 2 to go later.

Looks like a full-on Friday and 2 meetings on Saturday too . If things are still in a rut by Saturday week I’ll most likely admit defeat for this thread and scuttle off with my tail between my legs .
I’ll be back to try and save some face for the start of the turf .
In the unlikely event that there is a serious turn around in form over the next 7/8 days , I’ll persevere and stick at it .

    Tomorrow’s bets up later tonight

    Cheers

Thought there’d be between 6-8 bets today but prices are poor on the ones I liked . I’ll keep an eye on 2 in Dundalk and 1 in the UK during the morning and see if they go out .

  • Registered Users Posts: 11 hugh janus

Tanseeq 20/1 looks interesting in the last.John McConnell is banging them in at Dundalk lately and this one is well drawn in 6 and had some useful form in England. One to keep an eye on as it may need the run(off 659 days).
The Bittern Cry 6.00 was well backed and was well there over a furlong out but faded dramatically in the last furlong last week.It runs over a furlong less for my old pal Matthew Smith and watch this one in the market as this stable rarely leave their money behind.McConnells Spanish Dawn 7/1 wouldn,t be winning out of turn in the 7.30 race and is worth a few bob e/w.Just my thoughts and good luck to all.

Out again tomorrow with a Kirby taking over . Last run was questionable to put it mildly . Not a price this time though

A couple of 1/2pt bets on at Southwell on Sunday ..

2.35 - SECRETARIO (20/1) , outsider of 5 returning from a whopping lay-off but making his debut for a trainer who gets a few winners here . He’s on a winning mark , has won over a mile and has Josephine Gordon up . Will more than likely need the run but worth a small gamble at the price , especially as there is some hope on the pedigree side of things that fibresand might suit him .

4.45 - DORCHESTER DOM (16/1) , outsider of 7 and not shown much since a good debut over 5f at Doncaster last March . Now 0/5 overall , he’s 0/3 on the sand and didn’t show much last month at Kempton but he’s been dropped 5lbs and might be worth chancing a small bet here as he’s by a strong Southwell Sire , Starspangledbanner . He’s also stepping up to a mile for the first time which looks a good move on paper .
Also in the race is Speed Dating who I put up here for his winning debut at Southwell . He should enjoy running back here again , very good claimer takes off 7lb and he’s definite saver material around 3/1 .

Might have a couple of bets later or in the morning

I put up Mrs Benson on her last start at the beginning of the month and she was an unlucky 4th in behind Elusif at Kempton . A bit surprised they’ve decided to try Tapeta at this stage but it’s worth a go and she has to be worth a pop at a big price .
