    Autogefugl review

In ideal summer Sweden conditions at moderate speeds, he estimated 450k range for the smaller battery and 650k for the larger battery.

    Impressive .

Help CO2 emissions? Yep, carbon free. The EU decided today to include nuclear in the EU Taxonomy, so it's now listed as part of the EU's 'right on OK to invest' green energy programme. They also included nat gas in that....go figure!

Great for Nissan to be making a come-back even if the Ariya seems so late to market for EV market insiders who read about them every other day. Seems like they have made a car without any significant or notable shortcomings. The SUV sizing / height would be a negative for me, but it seems quite efficient nevertheless. Will be on the roads the same time as its smaller sibling, the Renault E-Megane. Another plus is that, like the LEAF, the standard spec is generous unlike the VW equivalents, and the Evolve pack seems to be similar to the SVE in the LEAF. The car is a class above the LEAF, though, and corrects all the battery cooling and CCS complications of the LEAF (more problematic for the 40kWh, to be honest, or if driving on the continent). The only area where the e-Plus has an 'advantage' is slightly more powerful acceleration at 7 sec 0-100.

Still no word on the performance model. Delayed, but for how long? My feeling is permanently at least on these shores.

I think the lack of investment in nuclear power was a mistake, as more and more heating and transport gets dumped on the grid therequirement for more Kwh is astronomical, a lot of greenies forget the amount of energy in oil, Petrol and Diesel, + gas. While talk of using hydrogen is fine and dandy it's very inefficient. I bet Germany are kicking themselves now they have neglected/abandoned Nuclear power, can't imagine what further cuts of Gas will do to to their economy.

How big is it comared to quasqai ?

It's FWD as standard, I don't like FWD electrics, they would drive me bananas if this is anything like the lead or Kona,Esoul etc.

What's the battery size ? these days you'd need 80 Kwh as the minimum. I couldn't imagine anything less than the 77 Kwh I have now in the id3 tour 5, the range is great but more is always good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,273 ✭✭✭RainInSummer

They've belatedly seen a bit of sense and cancelled the closure of the last three nuclear power stations as far as I know.

That's the issue with being energy dependent like ourselves mostly. While it might make us appear to be green by not extracting energy for ourselves we still need it and importing it doesn't change it.

It's estimated that the Porcupine Basin holds 8 Billion barrels of Oil and more as studied around 15 years ago, trouble is getting it in such conditions and has there been any real attempt to get it ? God knows how much Gas is there also. Any found should be nationalised immediately.

I wonder given that current situation will the Government back down on their absolutely ridiculous plans to make exploration for oil and gas in Irish waters illegal ? probably not, they're too thick. They certainly won't encourage anyone to go look for it that's for sure, wouldn't be green and might make the world too hot.....

Ariya is 201mm longer than Qashqui at 4595mm. You went straight from sweetspot BMW i3 REX to the ID.3 Tour, so not really on your radar. More one for people who want big SUVs, or already have one and are looking for an periodic upgrade. Apparently, though, the reviews are really positive for handling for both the Ariya and the E-Megane with their shared FWD drivetrain. I'd like a RWD saloon or hatchback next after the LEAF E+, ideally a Model 3, but the market is nuts so one for another time.

Anyone on here ordered one yet? If so, which model are you getting & when have you been told to expect delivery?

    9.1kWp (5.6E/3.5W)

Ordered Evolve 63kwh in aroura green on 21.06.22 hopefully will be delivered in Jan 23. Wanted two tone tinted red but dealer said Nissan had advices them their could be a substantial delay on it.

They had a blue with grey interior available in September but I wasn't interested so didn't ask further about full spec. I'd imagine it's gone by now.

While I see the demos have started to arrive in to UK dealers, have any arrived into Irish dealers yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,513 ✭✭✭digitaldr

Finally a review of the Advance (lower) spec:

I find the spec names confusing Advance sounds like it should be higher than Evolve!

Still no demo cars available. I would imagine it's going to start costing Nissan now if they can't get their product in front of people with cash promptly.

Video on the Nissan app. English narration, Dutch text.

    Lots

Lot of handy features eg route planning with real-time charging availability. One I particularly like - car can send alerts to your phone if driven above a certain speed, my son won't be so keen though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,746 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

God, I can't listen to that guy for 10 seconds, let alone 4 and ahalf minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,273 ✭✭✭RainInSummer

The leaf can alert on speed, geofence or curfew.

Was quiet handy as mine developed a battery fault very early in it's life. I set an alert to trigger if it went over 20km/h.

That way I'd know if they test drove it after the repair. Got an alert, then a day later a call to say it was ok.

Anyone know what finance packages are available? Would prefer HP v PCP

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,513 ✭✭✭digitaldr

If you're in Dublin I found the finance lady in Windsor North Road really helpful. We're buying on business HP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 855 ✭✭✭polydactyl

Thanks, in Dublin just waiting to see one hopefully will have a suitable plan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,055 ✭✭✭The_Wanderer

The Gracious Ace dropped off the 2nd consignment of Ariyas into the Port of Tyne yesterday. I thought it would then make its way towards Dublin but spotted it today heading back towards the med. We seem to have been forgotten about!

No sign of the infotainment manual yet

Ordered in March. Went for 63KW two tone blue, expecting delivery in September. No confirmation yet.

Best of luck with it and well ware.

FYI: Naas Nissan mentioned they would be getting in an Ariya demo this week, so I imagine similar timelines with other main dealers. Wouldn't be surprised if it is delayed, though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,746 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Finally got a test drive from Windsor Clonee. Have to say - absolutely smashing car to drive. Has made up my mind for good now.

Order still holding for Q1 2023 and the only downside is the dealer did mention that Nissan Ireland have flagged a pending price rise of 3%-5%, but September price list has already been published.

Thinking now whether or not to just buy it outright and save the APR fee AND the price rise (both together probably 7K) - assuming that's the way it would work with cash up front.

Saw my first Ariya on the road (not on a test drive) - all black with full tint, looked pretty special pulling away from a (now) rather plain ID4.

Good to see the first one anyway, hopefully a few more as get through September.

I've been told the order nooks for 2023 are closed and you'd be bloody lucky to get a Leaf too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,055 ✭✭✭The_Wanderer

Was back from holidays this week and noticed the local dealer had got their demo while driving pass. So after work today popped down for a test drive.

The demo is a 87kw advance model in Ceramic Grey.

Sadly I only had time for a quick drive around the bypass but a lovely car to drive. Think you'll need a one day course to get to know all the tech and features on board! But did manage to find the cruise control and tried the e pedal on the open road.

Thankfully the dealer confirmed my order is placed (he has 10 orders in the system) but couldn't give a delivery date yet, I'm expecting early 2023 to be honest. I must actually drop him an email next week to confirm the colour I'm getting as I gave him 3 choices so he could see what was available on the system.

He also confirmed Nissan has told them not to accept any more new orders as mentioned elsewhere on the thread. The same also applies to the USA and apparently Japan markets so is a pretty serious production backlog / delays.

A corporate customer is getting the car for the entire weekend for a test drive. Lucky bloody bugger!

He also got another Ariya in for a customer which is now on the road, I'll be keeping a look out for it.

Yeah got my call today that order books closed. I have to say I’m disappointed. I need a “high” car for physical reasons so options limited. Think I’ll still go for the test drive and then use it to compare others and see if hanging on is worth it.

Why not just leave it at a nice surprise figure joursflf seen you do get the car. How will know its going to be one of them 3 colours just not which one.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Just spotted one in Cork. Imposing on the road. Mixed feelings on the look long term though.

Saw one yesterday in the flesh. Very impressive looking car and I'm normally not taken by bulky SUV styled cars. Must say I much prefer the look of this to the Ioniq 5 or EV6. Will have to wait to see how they compare under the skin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,055 ✭✭✭The_Wanderer

Noticed today that the price list for the Ariya has vanished from the Nissan Ireland website in its September price list pdf. This is as a result of the order book closing.

Also I've heard from UK sources that tinted red is no longer available. Which is a shame as it was a stunning colour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,746 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

In the flesh it was a very bright red though - not as appealing as the brochure made it seem.

Price rise on the way, 3-5%.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

Any sign of it yet? We got our names on a cancellation and were told at the start of last week that it would be “within the next 2 weeks”. But when we contacted the dealer yesterday he said he didn’t have a date and was in touch with Nissan to try and get a date. Didn’t get a good feeling!

I’ve seen three of these locally now. Saw a black (or maybe very dark grey) one earlier, nice looking car. I was surprised at how well it looked around regular cars. Much nicer than an id4.

The orangey launch colour looks better in the metal though, the dark one lost the contrast between the paint and black bits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,055 ✭✭✭The_Wanderer

Could have been the black or aurora green version. Hard to tell the difference at a distance at times.

Saw a white one during the week, disappointed, did not do anything for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭Thumper Long

Have to agree saw a white one with a big black what used to be a grille and it looked hideous, then saw a black one later the same day and it looked way way better, with the white the contrast between the black and white is too great imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,815 ✭✭✭creedp

Agree much nicer in darker colours. Personally don't like a lot of cars in white and I really don't understand why some EVs manufacturers persist with a black shiny fake grill on white cars. The Q4 etron being a particularly good example of this.

FFS why does he say "TEZ LA" ?

But to me the Nissan looks a bit small ?

Electric cars are at stupid prices now. I remember when a Leaf could be got for 28.5 K max spec.....

I don't like where the charge port is, means always having to drive forward into a parking space at a charger, I reverse park all the time whether at a charger or not as it's much safer than reversing out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

We have a Leaf and reverse park all the time. Running the charging cable along the side of the car has never been an issue. I don’t get that complaint at all.

You can still get EVs with a decent range for in or around €30k. Which is what the Leaf cost originally (€29,995). They will have a far better range and a better spec for the same money. The base Leaf model for example is now going for €28,145, which is cheaper than the original Leaf. It has well over twice the range, charges faster and has a higher spec than the original. So you are getting a good deal more for less.

The bigger cars are starting to get ridiculous price wise. But that’s down to market and supply issues. It won’t last forever. And despite that there are ways that they become financially more viable. We are getting solar panels in and replacing our main car with an Ariya (hopefully!). Based off both of those we think we should be saving about €3,000 a year even with rocketing energy prices. Long story short, that means the Ariya is effectively hitting the €30-35k price range for us once all savings are factored in. Not bad for a fully kitted out car really. That’s not going work for everyone who obviously but then it doesn’t have to with cheaper EVs out there.

Not everyone wants a range of only around 200 Kms for 28-30k , having to spend 50+ for an EV with half acceptable range is a complete joke. I consider 400 Kms to be the minimal acceptable range the majority of People will rather have, I'd certainly not get an ev with less range than the VW id3 tour 5, it's far better than hanging around at charge points, if you can find one, proper high powered ones are very few and far between.

You can't reverse park a leaf at a fast charger, the only hope you have is if the charger is positioned in a way that allows you to reverse or parallel park.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

You’re just being a bit unreasonable tbh. Our Leaf has 100km range and since we got it (and the charger installed) we’ve done the vast majority of our driving in it. If we had a newer Leaf with 200+Km then I don’t see what trips in Ireland wouldn’t be doable with that. You’d be hard pushed to do more than 300km in any one trip in Ireland so you might need a longer stop at a fast charger to do that, but how often does the average person do that in a year? How many people never do that in a year?

And if range is that important, the MGs have longer ranges than that. Or the Leaf 62kwh has 385km which should be more than enough for a small island like ours. Sure they are another €2-6k more expensive than the original Leaf, but they aren’t €50k. You seem to want to not compromise on anything at all but expect to able to do that at a budget. I’m not sure you could do that with an ICE never mind an EV.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,715 ✭✭✭Red Silurian

I disagree, I think if you can have a moderately sized (40-50kWh) battery and very fast charging 100-150kW that would suit most peoples needs
