A neat feature I saw on the U.K. spec was as standard a motorised centre storage with foldable table. Also has the motorised centre console.

And the heat pump is standard too.

A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone.

Any word when these will be released in Ireland and what sort of price?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,276 ✭✭✭RainInSummer

Demo models in August in the UK, we'll probably be in or around that time too, maybe with a bit of a lag. Probably looking at late this year or early next for delivery though. Too long of a delay tbh!

My PCP is up in 2024 so let's see what the world is offering. The way things are going there won't be any roads left to drive on.

The first Ariya was delivered in Japan a few days back.

I’m sure they could strip them out to lower the price.

I watched the FullyCharged review, all in all he was not impressed really (but he was not critical either, a quite muted review), it cannot in any form or manner touch the Model Y so it needs to stay out of that price segment (in the UK anyway)

Looks to be a sporty drive.

Looks like Nissan aren't really interested in doing game changer EVs.

This reminds me of the worst of GM era Saab like when the NG 900 in 1993 was on the Opel Vectra A platform.

So Nissan is downgraded to badge engineering.

Yes objectively the Ariya is a much better car then that old GM era NG Saab 900 but I use that comparison in relative terms.

So the Megane EV is clearly a much better car and id go as far as to say that it looks like Foyotas BZ4x will also be a superior option.

Especially with the latter actually utilising its awd option to offer some off road capability

So Nissan is just doing what VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat and many other manufacturers have been doing for years. Agree though the Ariya is rather underwhelming, but imo so is the bz4x. To be fair you're the first guy I seen who is actually linking awd on a bev with off road ability.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,888 ✭✭✭Old diesel

The BZ4x awd system uses some Subaru based tech to actually create some off road ability.

I agree that BZ4x isn't a game changer product either.

My point is that Ariya is inferior imo to a product that itself isn't amazing

IMO Nissan's biggest issue is that because they are seen as the pioneer of the first mass market EV (Leaf), people expected their next EV to be this new ground breaking car. The Ariya is late coming to market for various reasons and other manufacturers have well and truly got the hang of making EVs while Nissan dragged their heels on getting the Ariya to market.

People will still buy this car (if the price is right)as Nissan are still seen as an EV pioneer on the back of the Leaf's reputation as being a solid safe bet. Indeed the Leaf is still selling well . Yes its old technology ,but It hasn't had all the major Battery or Software issues that newer cars have had and for a lot of people getting into EVs for the 1st time, tried and trusted means a lot.

The Ariya will been seen by some as an Electric Qashqai. The Qashqai sells by the bucket load and its far from being a groundbreaking car ...like the Leaf, its the tried and trusted mid size SUV and this could be the same for the Ariya .

It's a Nissan, it won't be in a VW price range, nevermind Tesla

Spoke to a dealer yesterday, they are expecting it to start at around 50k in Ireland (not sure if this is pre or post the grant) . Should have details in a few weeks.

Dealer mentioned to me that they are heading to Spain for training the start of April.

I think that was always going to be a great car, just very late the the market and behind its rivals. Price point will decide a lot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,276 ✭✭✭RainInSummer

Agreed, it's wayyy too late. Might end up with one yet depending on price point in 2024 when the current PCP is up. Let's see where they are then.

Waiting times on the majority of cars are so long now, maybe its just in time

Looking to buy an Ariya through the business but to avail of 0% BIK would have to be <50k and be bought before 2023. From talking to a dealer today should be ok on both fronts but no guarantees. I've managed to track down an ex-demo ionq 5 but wouldn't by my first choice of spec, colour or battery. Decisions, decisions!

    Ms

Did you check out the new Megane? That might be to your liking and will be fully electric. Starts below 50k and will be here next year.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Needs to be bought in 2022…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,276 ✭✭✭RainInSummer

I see a few people in the UK have ordered the performance model, but it's now no longer available to order.

More supply chain issues I'm guessing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,242 ✭✭✭brokenangel

It's an electric Qashqai. The people that buy it don't give a s**t and just want a car to go from A to B. I had a Qashqai, it done exactly what it said on the tin. Was it exciting to drive? hell no. Could it ship me & misses plus one bambino around? yes...

Modern cars, especially EVs are just appliances. Unfortunately thats the way its headed and the only real exciting thing about them is the technology onboard and as the majority of younger people are into their tech, thats where the interest lies. If you can embrace the tech, then you will have no problem in embracing the souless PC on wheels for what they are.

I bought my 1st EV(Leaf) back in 2017. Instantly I became the cool Dad & Uncle for having an Electric Car......

It's not just the tech side, it's the baby steps away from Fossil dependence.

We're in a perfect storm of supply/energy crisis.

With the greatest of respect for what's going on in the world right now at least it's furthering the movement to self sufficiency.

EVs and large PV arrays FTW
