Nct center has people's information on file.
Some guy I knew year's ago who was a bit like the cable guy got in contact with me after seeing me que up to get my car checked.

I clocked the bastard, hoped he didn't see me.

Later that evening I got a text message.

He bud long time no see, my heart sank.
    I knew it was him.

I text back who's this, certain it was him.

Obviously it was, I asked how did you get my number.
He said I seen you book your car in, so I logged in and got your number.

I politely text the lurk back and said if you ever contact me again,I'll be straight onto the NCT center.

He apologized and never heard from him again.

Luckily for him I left it go

So op is flying a drone over or near a business near enough to that business that cctv could get his car reg and people are wondering why the business owner might be a tad suspicious...

For all he knows the op could have been giving the business the once over before robbing it... or in fact a business competitor having a nose .
If I was business owner I would want to find out.
If your not from the area it’s highly unusual his local cop shop would have your number, address yes ...

I dunno if that's not loading up for me correctly or not, but it just lists names and not contact info.

You'd have to Google every single one individually, and ring them all. When he was talking to me on the phone there wasn't much doubt that he had the right person.

I've not called him back yet. I've mentioned it to the company I was working for. I'll get their reaction first and go from there. Not sure how to word the call with him considering I already did ask. Might just need to be firm, but if he says no, he says no. It seems I don't have any other options to explore from there.

Any chance of a conference call between you, him and all posters in this thread for some clarity?

Weird, when I view it, it has mobile phone, county, email address and contact name for all licensed drone operators.

You are right in that you'd have to try each one individually. I just posted it because I thought you might want to be aware if you are on it or not.

Yes you do, at least 2 other posters have mentioned Data protection in this thread.

Go to the Data protection website

Read it, especially the part which highlights the ONLY 6 lawful reasons as to why he could have access to your contact details.

Contact the guy who obtained your personal contact details from a "friend".

Tell that unless he tells you how he got your personal contact information you will be reporting a breach to the Data Protection commissioner.

Bit of a long one here but it doesn't seem too strange that a garda would give details out.

I was caught a couple of years ago with a Joint in my car in an isolated train station car park at night. Garda car rolled up and questioned what I was doing there, I was honest and told them I had rolled a joint and was planning to light it before they came( better to be honest in case they decided to search). The train station is only a 2min walk from my apartment so I was planning on leaving the car there overnight.

I was questioned about who sells in the town etc, I was very apprehensive on answering this as my friend had given me weed. I gave them a made up name and said I heard he might sell a bit.

The garda handed me back the joint took my name and said, "finish that up and move on"

I left immediately. I genuinely told no-one about the incident as I went on holidays soon after, upon returning one of my friends told me he heard I was caught in a car park with weed , giving names out. I heard off a few people the same thing. Then I heard the made-up name I gave to the two garda that night.

Only themselves and me knew the name I had given.

They definitely spoke to someone in the area about me.

There are access audit logs on the system the Garda use, you should ask to see when you were last looked up and by whom.
It's a pretty serious breach if a Garda is using the system for personal use.

All a Garda has to say is, oh I was looking for a different file, I must've made a typo in the search bar and his I've came up.

Rule number 6 is that tyre allowed access/use my data:

"In the legitimate interests of a company/organisation (except where those interests contradict or harm the interests or rights and freedoms of the individual)"

Wonder could that be a defence.

I'll ring him again in a short while, and if I get nowhere, I'll go down the route of a data complaint I suppose.

Waffle? its a story about how the garda gave out my information -backing up the point someone made about the possibility the guards do hand out peoples info.

I agwee, it was going well until the part where they let you drive off with your hash in your pocket, very nice of them. I liked the isolated setting in the country train station though, very noir.

Op, how come you never answered my question about how the business got your car reg with CCTV?

Did you park on their premises?

None of those organisations would ever give out a number to anyone.

Then it's not the organistation itself but an individual within that is not following the rules.

Yes, individuals in those organisations will undoubtedly do favours for friends now and again. Everybody knows this.

The Garda station desk are hardly going to have a record of "favors done for friends" that they can look up and say "yes, it is on the Pulse that Garda Mick gave a phone number for Dodgy Dave to his buddy in th Gah" Come off it OP

Why were you taking photos of/near his “business”?

As this was in a public place anyone can legally take photos. We checked this when we were street trading. He did nothing illegal or suspicious.

Well, in theory if the drone was overflown an urban area it might be?

We don't know for sure because there are unanswered questions, use of drone, where he parked

If he gave you his name and you know his business then send him a data access request, or better still, talk to a solictor about improper handling of personal data and have him send the letter

Taking photographs in a public space in Ireland is completely legal.

www. digitalrights. ie/photographers-rights/ (remove spaces as I'm a new user I can't post URLs)

I would query that the Gardai were the source of the information though. It's more likely that someone knew who you were and you phone number is listed or exposed somewhere. For example, check your Whois information on any domain. It's remarkably common for people to have accidentally had their hosting service publish their full name and address on it.

You could also be listed on any number of directories, websites, old documents that were distributed online e.g. press releases, old adverts, articles and so on.

For example, a friend of mine was phoned out of the blue by an ex (who was a problematic stalker) and they had assumed that their details were protected, and it turned out that they'd been part of a community group in a funding application and their details were on the document which was published online!

Start by doing a few google searches for your own name and phone number and you might find where it came from.
