I dont think height matters much outside of online dating unless youre in the small range, like under 5'7'' or so. Taller is always better and gives you some subtle advantages in life but for instance I dont think an unattractive man with bad personality traits who was 6'2 or '3 would have any real advantages in life over a good looking man of 5'10 or so with a likable personality

Regarding dating most women in person dont seem to care that much so long as he is taller than them by an inch or two

Once you're over 6'2" all respect is gone unless you have the build to back it up. Skinny and fat guys get no extra respect

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,720 ✭✭✭✭Earthhorse

Yup, some women don't date guys smaller than them. Some don't date guys smaller than 6ft. Some won't date fat guys, skinny guys, guys with beards, guys without beards. Some won't date guys at all (wtf are they, lesbians or something?)... and some (clearly lesbians) aren't attracted to me.

No, you're missing the point. The thing women are most picky about is height. So there are more women who will not be with a guy because he's small than there are those who discriminate based on weight, beards etc. So this narrows the choices for small men more than it does for men in other categories.

It's like saying beer and whiskey contain alcohol so both can get you drunk; that's true but one has a stronger percentage.
I wonder if that's related to confidence, rather than beneficial prejudice. Are taller men more likely to carry themselves with confidence? Something I've noticed about middle (and, more often than not, senior) management is that their confidence is usually greater than their competence.

Sure, that could be it but, by rights, confidence should follow a bell curve distribution in the population, at lest to start out with. If, growing up, taller people find they can boss the room more that, may shape them into more confident people. The problem is no one is really interested in researching this so we don't have rigorous info it seems unlikely we will for a long time.

Folks. In your opinion whats the ideal height i.e not too tall or too small.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,240 ✭✭✭jiltloop

I think that this could be quite heavily linked to confidence derived by virtue of being tall, not exclusively though. I think women are definitely in general more attracted to height however I think an average height man with confidence will probably trump a tall man with less confidence.

I myself am 6ft 4" and have always been quite shy and introvert and I definitely think that has affected my trajectory in life more than say the disadvantage of being below average height would have.

If I could chose a height for myself, I'd go with 6 foot on the button

In personally happy with my height of 6"2.

    Women like it
    Not freakishly tall
    Usually tallest in the room..usually
It's funny in Asia being looked upon as a giant

I'd happily be an inch taller... anything more? Don't think so, unless I was really muscely.

For women, I wouldn't date anyone under 5"2...just too small for my height. I never really dated women over 5"5 so I don't know how it is to date a tall woman.

I'll often see random women as tall as me..sometimes TALLER...I bet they hate being so tall.

I'm 5' 7" (female) and the smallest in my family. Both my sisters are an inch or two taller and all the men are over 6'. I'd love to be an inch or two taller. Mind you, I live in heels so in my head I'm way taller than I actually am anyway.

Three of my female friends are 5' 10", 5' 11" and 6' respetively and none of them ever complain about it. The 6 footer lives in super high heels and I have to admire the fact that she never gave a ****. She ended up marrying a guy who's 6' 6" so I'm guessing there'll be some tall-ass kids in the offing there should they decide to reproduce.

Afraid not. I'm a silver coin collector. 47 is the atomic weight of silver.

Son from a couple like that is likely to be near seven foot

Fella I went to school with is 6.9

He has no health problems or anything but getting clothes to fit used to be a problem for him years ago when there wasn't really shops that catered for really tall people.

Stephen merchant. Now there’s a tall lad. Picking up the ladies left right and centre.

I think you're being sarcastic right? He's always getting made fun of by Karl Pilkington for being a weir d looking giant.

ex-pro footballer Peter Crouch is 6'7. As he said himself, if it wasn't for football he'd be a virgin.

Tall men to me are normal given my dad is 6foot 5. I’m nearly 6 foot myself and not in the slightest intimidated or respecting of tall men ( I’m female). But I do find short men in management tend to exhibit what I call pet dog syndrome. They bite first and then think later, whereas I find tall men are generally more settled. Perhaps it’s just the survival mode kicking in for the smaller guys. Personally I love being tall, it suits my personality and I couldn’t imagine being shorter than I am.

I'd say that's more to do with the fact that he's ugly as sin, to be fair.

Here's a short guy with a short fuse:

"Are tall men more respected? "

If that's true, what a bummer for short guys. But at least smaller folk live longer right?

Impact of height and weight on life span.

Tall men are respected like short men.

Lmao, it’s not tall girls who are demanding tall lads, that wouldn’t be a problem. So that comeback while trying to be funny, doesn’t work. Small girls have been conditioned to believe they want a huge man bear

I don't think so. Height should not be an issue in your life, it is hard enough without having to worry or have hang-ups about your size.

All the successful people I know are quite small anyways. Except for Harvey. He is just fat now.

It may be that taller men are more confident and this gives an air of knowing what they are at, which others pick up on.

It seems taller men get paid more, apparently. From google:

Other studies in the United States and Britain put the extra earnings at nearly that much per inch. "The truth is, tall people do make more money. They make $789 more per inch per year," says Arianne Cohen, author of "The Tall Book" (Bloomsbury USA, June, 2009).

I'm 6'3'' and haven't noticed any real advantage. Promotions/raises can from proper negotiation, hard work and luck.

I definitely noticed when I worked in Holland my success rate with the ladies dropped.

First they came for the socialists...

Crouch has the height but he could do with a bit more meat on the bone.

Tommy Bowe is the ideal build and height to attract the ladies IMO.
