Well done for reading all of our moaning without going insane 😉

Price seems about right for that age bracket, based on ads on donedeal. Make sure the dealer has updated the software and also run a battery health check

Ask to see the health check results, don't just take their word for it

Also if you can, grab the VIN and check it for any recalls. It's on the bottom left of the windscreen, visible from outside. I think VW UK or Australia have a checker tool for the VIN

prices are plummeting and loads of overpriced stock across all the dealers. and that ones anywhere from 2.5k to 8.5k overpriced. Ring a few dealers and offer it as a trade in on a new one or price it on one of the trade in sites, it will be about 18k if you can get an offer. Wait a few months for the dealers to stop trying to get people to catch the falling knife.

About once every couple of weeks a properly priced unit appears on DoneDeal, set up alerts.

I have a Buzz Rack Buffalo 4 - takes 4 bikes, tilts, solid piece of kit.
Got it from altitude.ie, was around €300

    This - i've been offered 30k trade-in for a 222 ID4 tech (1 off from the max) - 25k on the clock.

One thing about bike racks, be careful of their weight and the max vertical loading on the towbar

I think the one fitted by VW is rated for 75kg vertical load, which seems common enough for folding ones

So if your bike rack weighs 20kg you can put up to 55kg of stuff on it, even if the rack itself is rated for more

It's unlikely to be a problem if you're only carrying one bike, but if you're going for 3 or more bikes then it's worth considering

    Two questions.

    1. need to replace the two rear Pirelli scorpion tyres on my 2022 ID4. What are people recommending as a good name brand replacement? I got 40k kms from the Pirelli's which I am not sure if that's good or not.
    2. what would be a good price for two new tyres installed?

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,038 ✭✭✭✭prawnsambo

40k is very good. Would you not replace with the same?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,854 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Websites like tyreleader or openeo seem decent for finding tyres and ordering tyres

For fitting, I think they need to recalibrate the lane assist or something so it's worth checking beforehand if they can do that

I got tires fitted and there was no need to re-calibrate the lane assist. It's working fine, for the two seconds I leave it on anyway😎

If 40k KMs is good then this is probably a good idea. I will see if I can replace with identical models. Thank you!

Thank you, this is useful and gives me a good guide to compare the quote against.

are you confusing tyre change with windscreen change?

I can’t imagine there is any calibration required on tyre change!

just had a look at a colleagues brand new car, ID5 GTX, (new model), very nice and version 4 of the software looks like a great improvement.

He went for the Black 21” alloy option.

Depends, I had this before and if you want to get the tracking/wheel alignment done a standard garage cannot do it, so they send you off to a specialist garage

Now in the end when I got the tyres replaced they tried and said the alignment they felt was ok after they checked and I didn't need to get it done. This was just a google for an example, I haven't used these

Wheel alignment/tracking is run of the mill stuff for tyre companies now. Pretty much every tyre fitting company can do tracking and yes, that does need to be checked and addressed if it is out of alignment (i.e. bad tyre wear). I wouldnt use a tyre fitting company that didnt have the ability to check tracking… most of them have that.

It was the suggestion that "lane assist" or other systems, outside of tyres, would need calibrating that I'm questioning. AFAIK the only thing that ever needs checking on tyre replacement is tracking…. which, like I said, is run of the mill for tyre fitting companies now.

This is going based on what the wheel companies told me, I got the tyres changed twice in a place because it was a company car and they told me as it had the advanced driving systems they couldn't do the tracking/alignment

Yes if I take my other car they have no problem doing it

More or less, if you buy a new set of tyres and want to get them aligned, they will check if you have the lane assist, auto cruise control etc and should send you to the specialist places.

The issue is if they do the wheel alignment without checking the system the lane assist for instance can be off.

My mate who I get the tyres off now as I took it out of company car said the same, but as mentioned when he checked he said nothing wrong so head along

The company car was via. big supplier, they have guidelines and won't go past them in case they get knocked off as a supplier. Will garages say nothing and align anyway even without the correct system. Chances are they will

grand, do you know if a big job or a simple one? how long did yours take?

any huming or hawing from VW about doing it?

I wonder will they get distorted again after a year of 2

Got mine done along with the rear quarter light windows last month under warranty, with a month to run on it. Worth checking those windows for cracks in the rubber seals imo.

Simple job, all work was done in a day. Anything that doesn't involve the HV system is relatively easy.

I got mine done while in for service. For some reason only some of the guys in FK can do it. I can’t imagine it takes that long.

Not sure about the windows, squeaky maybe? HV is high voltage.

hi folks, i have the option to change my id4 gtx for a id4 pro plus in July… for very little change in my current pcp.. the downsides i see are that i loose all wheel drive.. the spec on the id4 pro plus looks to have everything i had on the gtx business. Plus points would be a little bit more range and new infotainment screen with battery pre con etc.. the only thing im wondering is if i wait another 12 months will things be worse in the market.. if i change in july.. that gives me 3 more years of pcp.. but maybe im better wait 12 months and i might get more for my gtx next year (in relative terms).. the pro plus has a constant 286 bhp.. versus 299 on the gtx above 80 percent battery etc… im not sure i need the all wheel drive.. but its sure a nice to have

I’ve driven both in recent weeks and I’d go for the new ID.4 pro plus. Not 100% familiar with specs in both now but I’d say that’s an ok deal.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,208 ✭✭✭MrMusician18

HV is high voltage and any work to that system is far more involved. Specialist technician and isolation procedures are needed which makes it far more time consuming.

Some ID4s shipped with rear quarterlight windows where the rubber seal between it and the rear door was prone to cracking. Garage didn't think VW would cover it as he said it looked like damage caused by a car wash (nonsense), however they did. Annoyingly the seal is permanently bonded to the rear quarterlight glass so the window had to be replaced.

They also did the loose taillight with the new revised fixing kit.

Definitely worth checking the seal on the window.

    Thanks.

do you mean window 2 below and to the right of it?

how does one check to see if the loose tailgate is an issue?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,167 ✭✭✭fafy

I was having a look at a work colleagues brand new ID5 GTX yesterday, but this has the exact same v 4.0 software and screen, that would be in the new ID4 pro plus, you are considering, it is a vast improvement, all though, i didn’t get to actually drive it. The new Pro plus has only slightly less power than your i assume 2022 GTX, (286 v 299hp) and but the new motor has more torque, and is also more efficient and has more range. The ID4 Pro Plus is minus the GTX badging and trim enhancements, but it seems to have everything else, apart from AWD, and is 0.40 seconds slower on 0 to 100km

Take it for a drive, and see does it suit you.

Window 1. Check the rubber attached to the edge of the glass between it and the door for cracking.

If the tail light is loose you'll see at the top edge if it's started to come away from bodywork. The light tends to bow out.

sorry for being a pain. But where am I looking here for the tail light ?
