Beautiful morning in Dun Laoghaire this morning. The weather started to change though, and I think the best of the day is over.

Currently enjoying a nice wedge of bright blue skies in central Mayo at the moment. Only a few clouds about. Nice to be out in the garden ahead of the more active shower bands later. A nice crispness to the air and feeling pleasant even though the gauge is reading just a fraction under 5c here.

Dazzled by the low level sunshine.

Bitter cold and sunny is a strange combination.

    Breeze getting stiffer now. Audible...

Has been an exceptional low tide with sand banks exposed.....

Really light frost in Naas this morning. It looks like me had a light snow shower with the sprinkle of snow on top of the cars.

I have to say this morning's GFS is one of the more interesting runs of the winter. It shows a bitterly northern air flow over Ireland by the 5th February which then hangs around for a few days.

still dry here in Meath, hasn't really been rain here since before last weeks high pressure. We've managed to avoid all the showers over the past few days apart from a few drops which didn't wet the ground. No frost during this cool spell either.

Wintery evening in cork city. Blue skies and cold, lovely. Was some sleet showers during the day with bits of snow mixed in but far and few between.

Clearing skies in Roscommon town now affording a nice view of the moon and venus who are in close enough proximity this eve. Encountered a few heavy sleety showers in the north of the county this afternoon. Feeling fairly raw.

light rain here in Meath, first rain I've seen in well over a week. Still feeling cool despite the milder temperatures.

It's been an abysmal winter, a few inches at Knock Airport in a south westerly all to show for it.

Bring on spring and warmth please. At least the sea temps wont be too cold this summer for a dip

Spring will come but I doubt it will bring warmth. All that trapped cold air will escape at some point. I am guessing it will be worse than last year. I am expecting late June/July before we get anything over 20C

Dont worry winter will soon be over...then we can start having delusions of actually getting a proper spring and summer;)

next weeks potential northerly toppler and the SSW event mid February now looks off the table, we just can't catch a break this winter. We have a mild warming taking place but it isn't nearly enough to affect anything. The next 5 to 7 days now look like staying mild or very mild.

Yes, with an average polar vortex the warming might have been enough to do something to the pv to bring about sustained cold. I think the best we can hope for now in February is something similar to what we had last Sunday and Monday night.

It's difficult now seeing any sort of easterly happen before March, everything is still stacked up against us. The SSW ship has sailed in terms of effect this winter, however we may still get one later in the month or in early March, but the effects if any would not be felt till mid to late March or early April. February appears as if it will be a mainly mild and extremely zonal month with some cooler sectors in between, so no real change in the pattern that's been in place since the start of Autumn.

We probably will get some sort of a northerly shot or brief easterly in March or April once the PV finally starts to weaken, but after the middle of March the severity would be much reduced with any snow melting very quickly. I tend to lose interest in looking for easterly's after the first week of March and start looking forward to warmer and more spring like conditions.
