I could glue myself to a tractor or a cow or something if that would help.

It would help me anyway, can tell you that.

Go say some hail marys love

Go and light your little candle at your new shrine to Greta, the one you put beside your old shrine to Mao and in front of your even older shrine to Marx. Only three of the many total failures you worship on a daily basis. Modeling yourself on total failures. Suits you.

Actually wasn't it only made public that Gretta was nominated because several Norwegian politicians stated that they had nominated her?

Gretta gonna get some of that 1 trillion rainy day fund that Norway is stashing under its bed.

Yes absolutely. People who are intelligent and clear thinking enough to know that socialism has never and will never be anything but evil simply can’t stand a bunch of champagne socialists lying in the middle of the road preventing them from going about their lawful business as free people living in a free country.
Most likely typed out using 'evil' Socialist manufactured electronics from China...

Delighted the media have got bored of her already, her speeches did her no favours. On any topic, no mater how valid, shouting and condemnation just targeted at everyone is not worth listening to.

It’s an example of her waffle. She says listen to the scientists. Then she ignores the scientists and spouts nonsense about 12 years to save the world.

You're being selective there. Her only offering to the US House of Congress meeting was to submit the IPCC report.
Every one of her key speeches include the phrase 'Unite behind the science'.

If you agree there is a problem in terms of the longevity of the planet in
a habitable manner, why wouldn't you be supportive of anyone who is advocating for that in such a forceful way.

Even given her age, and her lack of formal education she is a lot more informed than a lot of commentators on the topic but she is being vilified for trying to do something positive.

    This is simply not true.

You say “ Every one of her key speeches include the phrase 'Unite behind the science'.

I have read the full text of her speech to the UN.
Where does it say, as you quote “Unite behind the science”?

Pleased to see that todays indo was the only paper even mentioning gretta, think most people are coming around to realising her reactionary alarmist craic is exactly that.

Climate change being man made is still up for debate, the timeline is still up for debate and solutions that dont directly condemn and demand change from asia, africa and south america are worthless. Grettas handlers have taken an idea and used her as a vehicle to push a specific flavour of climate alarmism on the world , that flavour only reuiring wealthy white countries to change and the changes to be bringing those countries closer to marxist control

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,314 ✭✭✭KyussB

Again: If you dislike Communists so much, why do you support them by buying their consumer electronics, and supporting a worldwide economic system that bases a lot of the offshoring/manufacturing, in places like China?

The ones who decry Communism so much in this thread, are ironically the ones who support it the most.

Would you all be on board with ending trade in goods that are high tech, produced with massive pollution externalities etc., from Communist China? Thus reducing our carbon emissions (because the carbon cost of what we buy, counts), and our support of Communism, both at once?

If you were actual Anti-Communists - rather than just fake ones for rhetorical effect - then this would actually dovetail quite nicely with fighting our contributions to climate change...

You really have a thing for skin colour don't you, lol. I know nothing about Greta I can't even watch her videos as I find them cringey, yet all of you nutters in this thread have watched everything about her and know everything about her parents and background.
She managed to get millions of people talking about climate change and waste and pollution, so she's done well in that regard, even if she disappears now it might encourage people to think before they buy or vote in certain ways.
If my own white country cleans up its act and environment, I'll be happy.

From the 'nutters' on this thread it would appear greta has done little more than spread eco-anxiety and encourage scaremongering - but there you are. From the apparently racist comments like above - it would appear that some would only be happy if the world was sent back to the stone age. If only there was a time machine ...

I think it’s you have the issue with skin color from what I can see. It’s the first thing you seem to notice tbh. This isn’t a “white” country by the way, it’s a European country.
You must have been asleep for the last few years because climate change is all that’s going on for a long time.
What Greta and AOC in the States have “achieved” is bringing ordinary folks to the realisation that India and China are the guilty parties but for reasons unexplained:
    A. This can’t be mentioned
    B. Europeans and yanks are being blamed and told that only they have to make sacrifices despite the fact that their sacrifices will have little or no positive affect.
So the Yanks didn’t buy AOC’s stupefying Green Deal and Greta is already yesterday’s news.
    Back to the drawing board.

I was pointing out that Eric seem to mention skin colour a lot. Are you in favour of Ireland cleaning the country up and trying to replenish nature that is rapidly declining?

Who isn’t in favor of cleaning up the country and restocking what we’ve taken from the earth?
What a lot of us ARENT in favour of is the heat being removed from the chief destroyers (India and China) by a hectoring clearly disturbed teenager who appears to be programmed and determined to land all the blame and responsibility at the door of the western world, excusing the real culprits.

The EU are fuelling the Chinese economy, along with the USA. Hopefully we move away from buying cheap crap that no one needs from China sooner or later.
Why does anyone need plastic flowers? Things like this should be illegal to sell.

The principle drivers fuelling Chinese mass production is Chinese economic policy. I'm sure you are more than aware of that whilst typing tirades on your chinese produced hardware. I dont know anyone who buys 'plastic flowers'. It's all the **** which floods the worlds market and undercuts local producers which need to be stopped. If that takes economic sanctions so be it.

If you don't want it then don't buy it. I buy stuff regularly and I don't feel guilty about it either.

But can you not see any problem with continuing to pump out products that are toxic to the environment at a never ending rate?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,561 ✭✭✭JJayoo

Billions of people rely on us continuing to buy 'cheap crap'.

The reason such a high % of Chinese people have been able to rise out of poverty, and why these jobs are moving out of China, is because a generation or two worked their holes off producing crap that was destined for Europe/US.

It's hard to expect all these people to be cool with all this employment suddenly grinding to a halt because the western world, who have already had their industrial revolution type of growth, is complaining about the environment and trees.

And I'm talking more about the likes of India/Indonesia rather than China who have moved past the initial economic boom.

Obviously I think things should become more green, in terms of energy production.

Also I think there is huge potential for regreening the planet. The green wall across Africa is a good example of a 'greening' project which educates and empowers the people.it has brought a huge amount of employment to the areas as people are planting fruit/but trees which they can harvest. Imagine if Europe/USA pumped 1 billion into this over the next 10 years you would have a very productive strip of land, beneficial to man and beast

I don't really care to be honest. You might which I respect but I don't.

Saying that there is an endless amount of unnecessary plastic shìte available to purchase. Most is garbage.

Is it possible to create a biodegradable plastic that would also be strong enough to perform its function?

Imagine a biodegradable plastic which when exposed to a certain element that is commonly found in soil would slowly begin to decompose, so in your compost bin or in a dumb the plastic would breakdown very slowly, but the same item would never breakdown of it was not exposed to the 'element' so In your house/car it lasts a lifetime.

You would.imagine that if a company had such packaging it would be a big selling point and they could get away with adding an extra few cent to the cost.

Guys, this is why Thelonious views Eric Cartman as a racist - and if you click my post above, you see him thank it, showing he was aware of Cartman's post above.

Since this is indisputable proof that Eric Cartman is indeed racist, and people have been taking the piss trying to reflect the accusation back onto Thelonious - then lets hear all people disputing either, come out and acknowledge that the above bolded quote is racist?

My prediction: Not a single one of them defending Cartman will - because nearly all those posters are in the habit of 'concern trolling' - i.e. only pretending to give a shit about what they are acting so 'concerned' about, purely for rhetorical effect (e.g. like expressing concern for Greta while never missing an opportunity to use 'mental illness' to dampen the credibility of what she says) - and they will prove it, by trying to slip acknowledging the above blatant racism (as they don't care, when it's 'their side' of the debate...).

That was a completely different discussion, and yes most ‘social justice / climate justice etc... plans are about redistributing the assets of / punishing / silencing white men and giving a systematic advantage to those who are not. Pointing that out as being racist does not make me a racist.

Are you in favour of ending trade of high-tech and goods with highly polluting externalities, from Communist China?

No - because you're a hypocrite who supports the produce of Communism when it suits you, and who goes on about emissions from China yet doesn't want to do the one major thing that would reduce it: Eliminate our - the western world's - demand for their produce.

Just like the rest of the pretend 'Anti-Communists' in the thread.

EDIT: Well, actually - credit where it's due:
