Strange one imo. Didn't think Woakes would get the hook that promptly, thought he'd at least be given another chance on a dull day up north.

The commentary on Radio 5 Live is he's been underbowled, and there may be an injury. They also said the OT wicket was not as green as they had hoped and a view that Overton is better placed to get something out of it

It may be they switch back for the Oval

Starc comes in for Siddle. Cummins, Hazelwood, Starc, Lyon. Pretty strong bowling lineup there, you wonder just how much England will miss Anderson from theirs.

Warner just doesn’t look comfortable against Broad at all this series. Out with an awful looking half-leave, caught behind. Perfect start for England.

It's unbelievable at this stage. Unless he does something in the second innings he has to be dropped for the final test.

Two down. Smith enters the arena to a chorus of boos. Joffra bounces him but it flies high over his head. 29/2

Drinks; 49/2. Joffra isn't delivering yet this morning.

Labushagne and Smith starting to look good

Hope the weather doesn't determine this test.

Holding a Test in Manchester in September is just tempting fate. :(

Labushagne gone, could be a big wicket as him and smith looked very comfortable

What would be a decent first innings score on that pitch with weather?

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,368 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

whats the story with the no bales, like if the ball feathers the stump? i know if the bales are off, to get a run out a stump needs to be removed from the ground.

not sure, with the aussie soft underbelly i'd say about 320

Supposedly Erasmus told Broad that had to clearly hit the stumps. Rules state it's up to the umpires to determine if it would be an out.

    Stupid shot from Wade.

Ridiculous shot by Wade. Getting into the territory of Smith needing players to just stick in with him.

Yeah terrible shot, no need for it, just stay in with Smith and take the easy runs

Bad shot. Not needed, Australia had been going along at a decent lick even when the English bowlers were causing some difficulty. If they can sneak another just before lunch or just after now it’s seriously advantage England. That said a 50 partnership from these two at the crease now and Australia would be looking good again...intriguing and finely poised.

Have to say ALL the English bowlers the last hour are bowling far too leg stump line for me, don’t know if it’s a deliberate tactic or what maybe it is considering the placement of just one slip one one gully but seems odd, a bit.

    Oh dear.

A spinner bowls a no ball.

As if Steve Smith needs an invitation.

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,172 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

Ah that's a kick in the balls for England!

That's criminal stuff from a spinner!

Potential match winning partnership this, currently 51.

That dropped catch from Roy might prove costly.

Basically you’d think from here it’s either a draw or Australian win. A couple of rank bad shots gave a bit of gloss to the England attack and a couple of missed chances gave maybe a bit of gloss to the Aussie batsmen.. by and large though the English have been average in the field, unable to take good chances when they presented themselves, slips look about 2 meters too deep and that’s cost them wickets, Stokes injured, it will take a miracle from here for the English to win I’m guessing,

Talk about the ideal start for England after tea.

Its a bit late now though.

Overton's done alright so far. I thought he did ok in the last Ashes series down under, seems to have a knack of taking wickets out of nowhere. I think the selectors will feel justified so far in replacing him with Woakes.
