Well, as a bambino owner, I forgive him - mine is on a good leather strap and while sand doesn't seem to be in mine, it has a noisy rotor. I also happen to like the domed crystal. I think it's a banger for the money, but spend the extra on getting a better strap for sure.

My second one neither put a foot wrong worn everday. Have been every bit as accurate as my eta 2824/hkpt5000's. Regulate beautifully with that goose neck too.

In your budget and I think a beautiful watch. The one on my wrist is 38mm and sapphire.

Best bet is buy from poljot24.de He sorts the wheat from the chaff qc wise for his customers and offers real warrenty.

If a seagull 1963 is in the running? As well as poljot.de I have always found HKEd to be really on the ball with his versions.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭H_Lime

100% iirc he was once part of seagull official. Going with https://www.poljot24.de/en/Seagull7005s.html

is handy as he really does good service in checking each piece prior to shipping and issues are delt with if they arise. In the euro zone too.

Hi, I need to find a link for my original Orient Mako.

It didn't come with any, so I need to find one!

I can't find them, so any ideas?

I love Anfanny. He is extremely entertaining having watched from the start. Total narcissist. Assume he is coked off his head and having moments of clarity where he feels invincible and that he can achieve anything as above. Sadly he is an addict and a degenerate and is doomed in an ever downward spiral.

Jasus, some weird drama queens in the watch influencer business.

Check out thewatchregulator on tiktok, he has some good videos. Usual ripping into someone or something.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,198 ✭✭✭OmegaGene

the first tpg video was done when he was hungover from drink and drugs i expect and the second was filmed when he was off his tits, someone is taking photos in the background you can see the flash popping at one point, he is physically shaking and talking absolute gibberish and 4 x normal speed.

reddit thread is quite funny to see all his escapades, he offered a guaranteed buy back scheme at one point where you buy a watch and he would pay 20% more after a period of time lol

Its funny now with these watch youtube fellows that they all seem to implode over time. From my limited foray into the scene I can tell you the comments section of youtube is a cesspool insults and not good for the ego. The question I have is not if,, but who the next one will be.?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,198 ✭✭✭OmegaGene

crime piece had a good idea with a day in the life style video but tbh there's only so much they can do in a day and most of its boring and can't be shown on camera, if a watch is bought with a lowball offer and they make 8k it looks bad so i think that's why he tried showing lambo days and high end dinners

    Hi All

New around here and a very lapsed Boards poster.

I'm in Japan at the moment and just bought a watch I've had my eye on for a long time. It's the Grand Seiko "Shunbun" SBGA443.

My watch budget for the next five years or so is pretty much shot, but I want to pick up something a little cheaper before I head home. I had my eye on a Seiko SBDC149 but having seen it in person am now leaning towards SBDC159. The blue dial is a little more subtle and up my street.

Just wondering if anyone here has any other suggestions on what to pick up in the €500 - €1k range while I'm here? For reference, before I splashed out on my GS my "collection" consisted of a G Shock world time (which I adore), a Seiko 5 (which I hate) and a Seiko Presage cocktail time (which I really adore)

    Thanks!

Thanks @OmegaGene for the recommendation to visit the RAF Museum in London. Took a trip in today absolutely fantastic!

Unfortunately, due to an event, hanger 2 was closed. Loads of WWII aircraft, really cool to see a Ju87 and a HE111 up close! Can't imagine what it would of being like flying that Stuka!

glad you enjoyed it @IrishPlayer it really is a good day out

Oisin does love getting involved in a bit of drama doesn’t he. He wasn’t too impressed when people were calling him out for not paying his bills.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,869 ✭✭✭893bet

    .…

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,659 ✭✭✭scwazrh

What Oisin did with the people he didn’t pay is just the same as what Anthony has done .Obviously different levels but still the same scam of not paying the bills because they were living the flash life .

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,538 ✭✭✭Fitz II

The irony of what he said to Anthony was not lost on me either. Oisin was right, but just like Anthony,, Oisin has built a narrative around himself that proves he is always right and always somehow the victim. These watch geezers are a strange bunch. I feel more sorry for Anthony, I dont think he has the mental capacity to realise what he is doing, Oisin is smarter and a bit more sinister and aggressive. Very similar chaps really.

Yeah Anthony comes across like a gambler who’s waiting for the next win to pay for the last loss but with Oisin as you say its more sinister, a narcissistic personality or similar.

I wonder is it all true with Anthony though . Is it a 5 million debt or really only a few hundred K ? A little bit of drama like his disappearance act ?Clearing 100ks of business debt is one thing but with the best will in the world it will take forever to clear 5million just from the profit on selling watches .

His day 1 and so on of debt reduction is very well organised, nearly scripted .Its hard to believe either of them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,869 ✭✭✭893bet

Boring as hell by day 4. Like a bad version of the film “phone booth”.

Who the **** would buy a watch from him or what dealer would allow him to sell their inventory at this point.

Also what kinda fool would buy a watch from the videographer and the box shipper slinging watches from their cars. Jesus.

Folks, on another note and this was something which hadn't actually crossed my mind. I was watching a few videos recently and they mentioned the lifespan of a movement and a watch such as my original Seiko 5 has a 7S26 movement which is supposed to have a lifespan of 30 years. I bought the watch about 20 years ago, so I'm curious. Is a figure like that conservative? If it's accurate, what's typically done? Surely it's not worth having such a cheap movement serviced. Do they service them out of sentimentality? Do they just fit a new movement?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭H_Lime

You can have the movement serviced if you wish to keep the watch as was.

What most will suggest is upgrade the movement to Seiko SII nh36. This is preferable as its newer, hacks and handwinds. They cost about sixty quid and ime they regulate up more accurately than 7s26 do.

The black 7s26 plastic movement holder would have to be transferred onto the nh36 requiring you to remove the day date disc and retaining plate which is somewhat tricky but doable.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,262 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

From what I have read online from people in the industry, from Tudor down movements are replaced. If you want to keep the original movement, as Harry said, you can request it. Obviously it's going to be more expensive.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,717 ✭✭✭Lorddrakul

Just for a bit of context, I bought a Vostok Partner in Minsk in 2002. It runs the same 2416b automatic movement as the Vostok Amphibia series.

I had it serviced in 2020, or rather cleaned, checked and oiled with a specialist, as it needed nothing more.

It originally cost $11. The postage was more than that and the service multiples.

But, fully expect it to last another 20 years.

Never saw another one like it. I loves it!

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,985 ✭✭✭✭Kintarō Hattori

If you don't mind my asking, how much should I expect for a service of a fairly basic movement? Can you or anyone else recommend someone?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,717 ✭✭✭Lorddrakul

    Not really, I'm afraid.

I send my Vostok and Poljot watches to Julian Kampmann in Munch. He is very reasonably priced, but only for these.

Locally, even for something like a 7S26, I doubt you'll be out for less than €200.

    The price list here: https://vintagewatchrepair.ie/repair-prices/

    Is probably a good guide.

Caught up on some of the TPG drama. It was a moment of delicious ironing when Oisin went on the stream to criticise, granted among other things, the TPG's hubris and drinking! I do think he made valid points though, you don't often see people put across such unvarnished criticism so kudos to him for that. He has grown on me a bit lately, his channel is back to being good again.
