I must have been watching a different mayo armagh game to you. They barely scraped past armagh last week

Agreed,I would still be hopeful we'd grind out a victory against Meath. It's vital to our chances of progressing that we do.

All the chasing pack are it appears a level below Dublin on all known form.

Have to disagree, that Dublin game was a freak & they are an incredible team. Why all the hype for Mayo? I guarantee you Meath will beat Mayo

Not quite sure what you are basing that on. Meath are just after delivering one of the most gutless performances seen in a provincial final.

Our defenders were very good, it was just one of those days where the ball wouldn't go over the bar

The record of teams that performed poorly in their provincial final would have me worried if I was a Meath fan.
Cavan were wretched. Galway very poor. Cork obviously did fine, but then they would have had a lot of positives to take out of their provincial final.

In the first half I thought you were immense defensively but left your shooting boots at home. But if Mannion's penalty had found the net there would likely have been a totally different complexion on the contest come half time.

Dublin cut loose in the second half.

Mayo have a lot of motivation as you can well imagine given our historic record and how 1996 panned out.

TBH I think you'll have your work cut out to beat a very under estimated Clare team.

Whatever energy Cavan had left was drained out of them once drawn against Tyrone and Tyrone with their serious conditioning just ran Cavan off the field yesterday. I could never see Galway beating Mayo, was a perfect draw for Mayo. Law of averages and due a win v Galway, momentum from two wins in a row for Mayo and Galway's form has been poor since shipping that heavy defeat to Tyrone in March. (they even struggled v london)

Cork got the luck of the draw in getting Laois and we'll see what they are really made of in the last 8 now. Meath had 3 choices in the draw Tyrone,Mayo,Clare and like Cork they should be reaching the last 8.

Are people really still playing up meaths performance two weeks ago. They where utterly rudderless, lapis and westmeath can take more credit from their recent leinster final appearances.

    Meath v Mayo?
Mayo would comfortably beat meath. Physically they are stronger, better forwards, they play a better running game. Its not even debatable. You can talk all you want about mayo scraping by armagh bottom line is they won.
They are a seasoned team who will be there or there about come late August

The level of delusion around Meath is amazing!

Cork still had to go and win that game. Even in Cork not all of our fans were confident of a victory. Its bonus territory now for Cork and you never know what might happen but at the same time we are realistic to know that we are up against good teams in the super 8s.

Mayo are renowned for playing down to the opposition. A few years ago they arguably should have been eliminated by both Derry and Cork yet they went on to push Dublin all the way in the final. They have regressed since then imo and I would not put money on them beating Meath at this stage, although all reasonable analysis would suggest that they should.

Meath look a good side in the making but they need a few dependable forwards.

Nonsense. This is down to a shambolic playing set up that is squandering the talent of some absolutely fantastic footballers. It is entirely at the managers door.

We had it for 3 years with rory gallagher and it was nothing short of a disgrace what he was allowed to do with us. Get Walsh out and get a pragmatic positive manager in and you will 100% reap rewards very quickly.

Always loved watching Galway playing, now they're unwatchable. Its not like they dont have decent footballers either.

Whats the point in losing playing like that? Turgid stuff. Good riddance.

No I'm deadly serious. Meath have electric pace going forward. How can you base Meaths year on a terrible performance against Dublin?

Enjoying it thoroughly. Shame the RTÉ player is being such a gowl.

EDIT: Casting from my phone now and it's clear as day.

Meath passing poor enough so far

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,208 ✭✭✭✭RMAOK

The Clare goalkeeper took to much out of that ball - shouldn't have been a 45 at all.

It's their backs getting battered by the Mayo forwards and the meath forwards not even getting the ball in the first place.
Mayo are stronger in many sectors, if not all IMO

It's time to change the definition of the tackle. You should be allowed slap the ball with one hand and that hand would need to be withdrawn immediately. Leaving the arm in for any length of time should be a foul. Slapping with the left, then the right and so forth should be a foul too. It only leads to dragging. You should only be allowed impede a players progress by getting your body in the way not slinging an arm round them.
