I have this set up in Client mode as the slave

    OCTAGON SFX6018 S2+IP 1x DVB-S2 HD H.265 HEVC, E2 Linux Smart Receiver.

All going really well thanks to this thread so down to small things now-

Because it has just has the one tuner I assume setting up the fallback configuration isn't an option for me?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,990 ✭✭✭greasepalm

No as client mode is better from a multi tuner box , if you had twin feeds on H7S and Saorview and streaming to kitchen you only lose 1 tuner. If tv has a Saorview tuner wire it up also.

You are using the only tuner box has and will leave you a blank screen or greyed out channels as tuner is in use in the kitchen.

Thasks. Ya the h7s has two connections from the satellite dish.

But ya get you on the slave box.

When the zgemma was recording a satellite channel some of the other satellite channels were then greyed out on the slave box so I was just wondering was there an easy to get another tuner onto the system.

With client mode if you had a 4 tuner box with say 2 28.2 feeds , 1 saorview , 1 on 19.2 on the master box all of these should be received on the slave box . If you record on 19.2 on the master all channels will be greyed out on the slave as its fully used.

The same with saorview recording on master will give you greyed out channels as tuner is in use.

Check you have 2 working feeds on h7s signal finder on 28.2 as i think not is why greyed out list is coming up . Channels on that tp can be seen on slave as sharing the info.

    Thanks for that.

What happened was the zgemma was recording and someone was watching a different sat channel on it. So both tuners were in use.

Is there any easy way of adding in an extra tuner to a set up like this?

Edit - on a side note WOS have a notice up that the zgemma h7s is no longer being manufactured.

That is why both channels are busy as one is recording and one is been viewed.

Saorview would work as long as its wired up on main box.

I find it handy if all tuners are busy viewing /recording you can view recordings on the client box so as got something to view.

You’re probably getting to the point where a receiver with FBC satellite and Unicable LNB and dual saorview tuner are needed (like VU+ or Gigablue).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭cathy427

Thank you. Ok is the FBC receiver any good without the Unicable LNB?

I didn't know you could get a receiver with sat and dual saorview tuner.

Edit. I have saorview separately in the tvs as well so I suppose it's just an extra tuner for the satellite channels that would be handy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,182 ✭✭✭dam099

You really need the Unicable LNB too to get the benefit of the leaf tuners (usually gives you 8), a regular LNB will only give 2 (or 1).

Ive now got two VU+ boxes again , with dual FBC and Dual DVBT tuners.

Thats 16 satellite tuners and 4 DVB T tuners, and they get used , but not in the way I originally thought they would be.

Instead its client devices grabbing tuners all the time. In my case its clients within kodi or plex.

VU+ boxes and the required DVB T tuners ( sold separately ) are readily available again but they are not budget boxes like the zgemma , they are pricey.

Also had the new Gigablue UHD 4K Pro box for a while but it died within the first two weeks. It is not as well built as the VU+

I usually buy from amazon.de , amazon.ie is up and running now but are taking the piss with pricing. ( rip off ireland again ).

For example the VU+ duo 4K SE is listed for more than 500 euros with no tuners or hard drive , so thats gonna cost you about 700 all in once you buy tuners and hard drives.

    https://www.amazon.ie/VU-Duo-4K-SE-Receiver/dp/B08HJGWQMG/

Its 365 on amazon.de with dual FBC and Dual DVB T tuners. ( when they have stock ).

There is no benefit to these boxes over a Zgemma if you dont have a Unicable II LNB , they work fine with legacy tuners but behave exactly the same , two feeds , record one channel watch another etc. You only get the extra leaf tuners with a Unicable II LNB.

A unicable II LNB will cost you about 40 euro , an installer to go up a ladder and fit it will cost about 100 or so if you are not comfortable doing it yourself.

    https://www.satworld.ie/inverto-unicable-ii-programmable-lnb-with-32ub-en.html

Note that unicable can be split downstream and splitters with as many outputs as you need cost less than a tenner. You only need one cable coming into the house , existing cables will be fine.

Hi @andy1249 that sounds great! Is the unicable LNB just a direct plug and play replacement for a standard sky LNB?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,458 ✭✭✭andy1249

Yes , thats all I did , had a guy come around with a ladder and a meter , took off the old sky lnb and put on the unicable one. Just used one of the two sky cables.

Evening all, I am on Openvix 6.6.013 with Magic HD Night skin. In menu, setup, recordings payback and time shift I can't see an option to reduce the 3 min pre timer record time start? I remember changing it to zero mins on previous image versions but maybe the skin is the reason? The only menu option in Recording is "Default movie location"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,990 ✭✭✭greasepalm

I never change it and leave it as a default setting as can always do the 3 6 9 buttons to hop forward , simple1080 skin. I can change it here if i need to in setting a timer.

    If you go

    Menu

    Setup

    Recording playback & timeshift

    Recording

And go down to 6th on list

Edit - sorry see your issue now.

That's on simple 1080. Just switch to that skin, do the change and switch back to your preferred skin.

I'm sharing recording between two enigma2 boxes using cifs rather than nfs. I can't get the nfs to work for some odd reason. Anyway when viewing the recording files it can be pretty sluggish, has anyone came across this. When the file get up and running it's fine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 967 ✭✭✭downwiththatsor

I have tried a few other skins but none offer the extra menu items. In skins menu after download plugins I don't see simple 1080. Any other way to install simple 1080 after a download to a USB etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭cathy427

Any chance simple1080 is already in your list of skins that are on the box.

Can't check box as someone watching TV

    Edit

The menu options are also there on both bluehd and slyk.

No joy with Simple 1080 or a few other skins. I might upgrade my firmware from 6.6.013, can anyone recommend which 6. 7. 00x firmware to move to that will suit my favourite Magic HD Night skin?

    Thanks

I just used their latest image on another slot that was free.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭cathy427

It must be another option that you have turned off or something.

I am on openvix 6.6.013 and using simple 1080 or blue hd or slyk can see the options.

Can you take a pics of each step you are doing and what you are seeing and post them up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 967 ✭✭✭downwiththatsor

Menu, setup, Recordings, Playback & Timeshif, Recording, are the steps I am using.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭cathy427

Are you in Client mode and is this the slave box?

Edit. Ah - bigger issue, see swoofers solution.

What you will find is that the image you are using is corrupt and can happen for some unknown reason. What you should do is flash a clean image to another slot using image manager but you must say no when it asks to restore settings and plugins. Its a brand new install so you will need to setup tuners, EPG, and ABM. But you must be careful that you dont flash to the slot in current use. You can have a look and if unsure just exit and report back. Go menu, setup vix image manager press yellow, select vix, select 6.7.007 it will ask do you want to download, say yes, then press blue to flashand it is here you have to be careful, select a slot that's empty. And then set it up.

    A question about client mode.

Set up client mode on an octogon sfx 6018. All good.

I mounted the main h7s box so could access the recordings on the main box. All good.

The issue is this is causing the picture (when watching live tv) to freeze a bit on the client tv.

I restarted GUI and not freezing anymore - but access to the recordings gone now. I mounted again and it started freezing a bit again.

Without having the main box mounted you don't seem to have any option for live pause either as it won't recognise a separate USB for this use.

Both boxes on openvix 6.6.013 and simple1080.

Both boxes are connected via powerline adapters. Is this likely to be the issue?? Don't have an option to connect via ethernet.

This is the signal strength at main box. Is this good enough or could that be causing the freezing? Never been an issue on tv at the h7s box.

Edit - this is what's showing under network on the client box. Is this good or bad?
