Biker.ie must be the worst site I've come across. Mods won't reply, impossible to view most of the forums, and full of of smart arses. Has anyone used it?

Biker is just for bell ends.

    I tried it myself, wish I hadn't.

    The end.

Posted there for a bit a couple of years ago, you quickly learn it's largely a circle jerk. Unless your bike is designed for track days, you don't brag about breaking the speed limit and bitching about speed vans then you won't enjoy it.

Look at how few posts are on it, it's pretty much dead now. You couldn't even trust it for mechanical information because they delete posts about where to go and get stuff fixed and put in the mod or admin reply telling you to go to them instead.

Lolz, I'm worse. In my naivete the car was in the pic of my bike: it was like I'd blasphemed or something.

I swear to God when I hear a biker call a car or car driver as a ''cage'' or a ''cager'' I want to cut his throat. In my head I'm screaming 'You fucking arsehole".

They were called that long before biker.ie Calling yourself an arsehole won't fix anything. ;)

Used to be very active there years ago but it's dropped off a cliff in the last few years, haven't bothered in the last couple of years.

I like FB but then I don't post up photos of my dinner or tag myself in the doctors or hospital A&E departments for FB likes.

It keeps me in the loop with the bike scene which due to a few reasons, politics/agro etc I just don't put in the effort like I used to but I don't want to completely lose touch with either.

I admin my Judo club FB page, as a competitor its fantastic for my Judo and keeping in touch with clubs and Judoka. Competitions, gradings etc.

I also do a lot of running and so hear about events and charity runs via FB before other forum like the athletics & running forum here for example.

My FB account is private but I've a decent following on Instagram, any photos I don't mind making public go there. Usually its my bike, running to places, Judo and whatever book I'm reading (I'm a book worm), oh and my dogs.

My cage car doesn't get a mention anywhere, its just a poxy little Peugeot 208 (I think, it might be a 207, or a 308.. its a little yoke anyway).

Cage is one thing... but referring to IBT as LGBT is just as bad or worse, and you can see the new or first-time posters calling it the same to try and fit in.

Its always something related to the lgbt lifestyle because biker.ie admins think that's hilarious. Grown men,not 14 year olds. Anyway, there's a million better bike messageboards or groups

Hence the reference  like being stuck in a cage compared to being on the bike.

So if you post IBT into Biker if changes it to LGBT?.

    Yup.

I can't remember exactly what it was, but when you call people out on bragging about speeding and say "riding like an idiot" it changes to "riding like a legend" or something along those lines.

Multistrada becomes minimoto as I just found out yesterday! A few years ago they banned or buswalds all cork members for being langers. It used to be mildly amusing but just seems childish and petty now. It's a pity because the workshop section can be very useful and some members still put up good pics of their bike trips etc, but it's definitely on the decline.

IMO its more like getting back to basics, as you said the workshop is still good for info, and there are lads who are willing to look beyond the nonsense...maybe the knobheads are getting bored and not contributing as much...

Dead in the water . admin thinks he is a comedian and posts pathetic "witty" passages and all his little minions tell him how funny and wonderful he is . they probably all drive cars most of the time but call them cages and they say everything and everybody is gay . mentality of schoolboys around 9 years of age

when I visited it a few years ago now there was a member called chop who had very good mechanical knowledge and was genuinely very helpful , there used to be a few decent real people on it but vastly outnumbered by all the sad cases

Websites, apps and forums in particular come and go. I haven't used Facebook since 2010, I gave up on boards.ie ten years ago and I stopped using biker.ie six months ago. I don't regret much from the last twenty years, but I probably should have spent more time on my bike and less time on the internet.

There's no denying that biker.ie had its high points and provided technical support, moral support and charitable fundraising for thousands of people down the years. I made friends and lost them, some to bike accidents and some to other causes, I made enemies but mostly with keyboard warriors who disagreed with my opinions (bite me). It was the best place to find out about ride-outs, I bought and sold bikes to members with no hassles, I had guys bring bikes to my house to help with repairs and I had guys check bikes for me on the far side of the country to save me wasting time going myself to look at 'mint' sh*theaps off Donedeal.

Having been very active on lots of bike forums, its clear that any forum is only as good as its members and its moderation. Some sites require a subscription to join, some are funded through advertising, some are free - how they are funded rarely affects how good they are. I gave boards, biker and loads of other sites my time and I had good fun and got value from them but I've decided to spend more time on my shed these days.

Stay safe and be kind to each other, push the keyboard away from time to time and go clean your wheels.
