Just saying that's what the latest rumour mill is churning out now. It'll be very interesting to see our 26 on Saturday with all the talk that's been going on.

Martin Breheny had an article in the Indo re the failed entities that are the quarter final group stages and the new rescheduling.

IMO they should definitely revert back to the old September finishing schedule.
With the hurling back to the first Sunday. What was the big rush to hold two hurling semi finals within 24 hours?
Now football to be wrapped up in a few weeks and give the Premiership and rugby a clear run to Mach.
At least TG4 will show county club games

    Football is the first Sunday
    Hurling is the week before
    Or maybe even 2 weeks
But either way it’s in August

Come on now no need to like that. Clarke has issues with kick-outs but nobody is under any illusions what a great goalkeeper he is. He will be massively missed and another injury blow to the squad. But this could always have happened. At least the back-up has had some game-time & hopefully his confidence is right. Up skittles Rochys prep as well!

I hope it’s not true for a few reasons
But most of all if we don’t make it through he will prob retire without playing another game

Most of the injury rumors have been true this year sadly

Yep, and don't expect Clarke to wear number 16 either. I'll say no more!

    You've said enough.

Not that difficult to read between the lines unfortunately.

    Hope same isn't true.

    Some room for a thought.

    Very decent article.

GAA Statistics: Mayo must improve kick out strategy or change personnel
Rob Hennelly and David Clarke are both top keepers - how much do Mayo value the restart?

    Good read.

Consider putting RH back in and give him some cover to compensate for his ability under a high ball. Ask Higgins to be a defender or put him in the half forwards and be done with it.

Too much nostalgia around old discussion points around Clarke, would have won an AI if he played, ignoring his poor technique in an AI Mayo lost, trying to protect all starts awards. That's not the point here.

Mayo are where they are, heading into a championship game to play Donegal who have analyzed how other top teams have beaten Mayo by targeting this area and taking away their ability to launch their own game.

Many don't want to hear it here, talking about all the great saves made, saves are the keepers main job etc, but that's head in the sand stuff imo.

Get no 3 sorted, have less saves to make and help under a high ball, if they did that the need for Clarke is reduced.

Seems to be very much disregarded that, in the almost 3 years since he was dropped for the replay, there is not one iota of improvement in his kick out technique.

How about the pressure he put his team under in the 2016 drawn game with poor restarts near the end.

Is this something that could not have been worked out with kicking specialists.

In a year or two there will be little to discuss as Clarke most likely will retire and like it or not, Hennelly will probably the be the No 1

The goalkeeper debate is a bit like Brexit at this stage. I just switch off when people start discussing it.

I've always contended that had Dublin got three points from any other source (wides that were points etc) in that replay nobody would talk about Rochford's decision re Hennelly.

It was the right move, they saw that Dublin were targeting the Clarke kickouts so they tried to take that away from Dublin.

As we know in this day and age it's tiny margins.

    As for the article itself.

The writer makes a good point that for a team that like to play on the front foot, starting attacks being pressured on your own D will get you nowhere.

I wonder will Horan try something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,198 ✭✭✭PressRun

Well if the rumours are true, he won't have much choice but to try something.

Long term, we really need another option there though. Clarke causing absolute mayhem on the kickouts and Hennelly potentially too skittish under a high ball.

Officially confirmed Clarkie is out injured.Robbie starts....lets get behind him and stay positive.

The team is out tonight I take it?

Saw one last night. Either it was legit or someone has been playing fantasy manager.
It had Hennelly in goals, Higgins and Durcan starting. Stephen Coen still in. The two O'Shea's midfield. Along with Carr and Andy.

Is anyone heading into The Wolfe Tones in the TF tonight btw? It'll get the weekend rolling - should be a good few Donegal heads in too I'd imagine.

In many ways it’s the perfect way for him to come in to be quite honest !
    Hope he plays well now
    We need him to

So instead of sh1tting ourselves for every kickout we'll be sh1tting ourselves for every high ball near the goal :D:D:D

Been listening to GAA podcasts all day pretty much and starting to feel cautiously optimistic I have to say.

Most pundits seem to agree that Mayo were knackered for the last couple of games and will raise their game significantly tomorrow

Agreed. It can't be good for his confidence either missing a few. Leave them all to Cillian.
