I take a look and drive if the all-new Tesla Model Y Performance. This is probably the best Tesla yet.

This thing is ridiculously efficient, 12kwh per 100km over and back to the airport on the M50 from Dalkey, etron would have easily been double that.

I got a thorn in my back right tyre at the weekend. It is between the groves and fairly close to the edge. I popped it out and it was fairly long, but I thought I got away with it.

Came out yesterday, and the PSI was down to 36. Pumped it up and drove to Limerick and back without issues. Came out this morning, and it was down to 38. So definitely a small, slow puncture.

Just where it is I probably can't just get it plugged and will have to replace it. Is the Tesla service via the app silly money for a tyre change? Am I better off trying a few local tyre places? Based in Galway in case anyone has a recommendation.

I’d go local. Tesla are a bit understaffed I think. The Ranger they sent yesterday was based in Belfast. I’m in Dublin

id go to a decent local tyre place see if it can be plugged and if not get a replacement but worth ringing around in advance to see what they have in stock, or, if there are mobile fitters order the tyre you want online and get them to come and fit? if it cant be plugged.

MY AWD(2023, non Juniper) owners, please help me here.

I noticed, the other night while driving home after doing some OT in work(I don't really drive in the dark since i got the car) I noticed that i have an ambient light in each door pocket in front, one in the passenger footwell, but the drivers footwell is in darkness, and it's driving my OCD mental.

before i go digging, does this model car come with a footwell light?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,390 ✭✭✭MightyMunster

Yes just switch it on on the lights menu 😁

Have searched, but can't see a dedicated toggle for drivers footwell?

    Passenger footwell is working?

Then it could be the bulb. Check to see if the connections are in securely. Have you had any service work recently? Cabin filter replacement etc?

Has it always been off or did it work at one stage?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 3,948 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeloe

    Yeah passenger footwell is working.

No work recently, since i've owned the car, i only pick it up in May.

Where roughly is the bulb in the drivers side?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,390 ✭✭✭MightyMunster

Sorry missed that the passenger one is working, same setting for both so as above a bulb, fuse or wiring issue

Look under the steering column. You’ll see the white plastic lens.

You can pop it off with a flat head screw driver and see if the connection is secure.

Got a new tyre, visited a tyre place close by. In fairness they took off the tyre, found the hole, plugged it but advised since it was in the wall to replace it. They didn't have any in stock, apparently smaller places don't tend to stock them. But they rang around and found a place ten mins away that had one. No charge there.

Got it in the other place for €210. Only annoying bit is my existing tyres curve out past the hub cap but this is a more normal looking one so if I clip a kerb it will scuff it.

Speaking of the hub cap , I've never seen one like it. It's so odd to get off the wheel. Clip off the five "petals" then try not to snap them off as you unclip the middle.

I'm thinking it would be worth having a spare tyre in the shed. Just in case.

You got the same tyre, or will get the same tyre, as are on the other 3 corners, right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,356 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

That's what I'm thinking. I just needed it fixed as I've three weekends of long trips with the family aboard so wasn't risking a blow out.

But having mix matched tyres is not nice.

Will try source the same Goodyear then stick the Hancock in the shed for a back up.

Sounds like a plan. I'm debating buying a space saver as even with good roadside rescue the whole process can drag out.

Spent an age trying to pop the lens cover off, wouldn't come out, had to drop the entire panel, and the thing wasn't even connected.

    All working now tho

Made the claim and my renewal quote has come through from my insurer, they've stuck €225 onto the premium for the year but I was expecting an increase anyway. No way of knowing if the claim caused any of that increase but I'm happy enough with that, it saved me €1530 in repair costs.

And because insurance affairs are so transparent in this country you will know exactly why your premium has gone up by 225.

Test drove the AWD then RWD the other day while my 24 MY RWD was in the service centre. First up was the AWD as the RWD was already out on a spin.

My main concern was how much the ride quality was improved and it certainly was noticeable on rough road, shores, potholes etc. and more sure footed. The pickup with the dual motor is nice but the RWD is enough imo, getting old :)

Surprisingly when I took out the RWD although it felt a bit better than my 24 MY I was surprised to find it a bit clunkier than the AWD, over the ramps past Westwood to Carrickmines it didn't feel as solid as the AWD, I know the extra weight may actually be an advantage but I was still suspired none the less. The RWD only had ~1000kms on it so it should still be pretty fresh. Also the removal of the subwoofer and a few speakers was noticeable.

If i had to upgrade it would have to be to the AWD, however I'm gonna wait another two years and see out the PCP.

The headlight police are out in force these dark evenings. I drive mainly dark roads, mixture of motorway and rural roads, majority with no street lights. I find I'm getting flashed quite often with the matrix lights on.

I've been paying close attention and the lights are working jmostly fine. I suspect it is two things:

although the.matrix lights are.dimming the oncoming car, the lights are still very bright even thpugh not directly at the.oncomong car. They see really bright lights and assume I have my full beams on. Well, technically I do have my full beams on, just not in their direction.

The second thought I had is the low position of the lights. I think some people might think I have my fog lights on.

But one problem I have noticed is that ot has to see the car before it dims. There are times I feel it really should be dimming but the car is too far away. Its not until the car is closer and shows on the screen that it dims.

Similarly going around corners on rural roads. You can see the headlights of an oncoming car coming around the.corner, it should be dimming but it doesn't detect the car until it has come around the corner, which is too late.

Its actually causing me a bit of anxiety, so last night I started overriding it using the button on the steering wheel. But I'm not sure its possible. I was doing a mixture of flashing people and turning it off completely. I think the button jist rotates through settings, rather than being a dip on/off button.

How.are others finding the automatic matrix lights? Especially those who frequent dark rural roads?

I drove Dublin to Wexford and back last week and Dublin to Letterkenny and back this week and the matrix function was brilliant.

Is it possible your lights need to be aligned?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 291 ✭✭reaction238

I'm inclined to say it's not an alignment issue. That Wexford road for example, the M11 is a good example of a dark road. I was on it recently and I counted 2 flashes, from Bray to Gorey. I think if I had an alignment issue most people would be flashing me.

You don't get any flashes at all?

The lights are very bright, there is no doubt about that. I wonder if its just people see bright lights and assume I'm driving along with high beams on. Well actually I am, but the matrix blots it out in their direction. But they just assume because the lights are so bright.

But I do think they are not great on windy rural roads. The car just doesn't detect cars coming around a bend, if I had manual control I would be dipping the lights before the bend. It's just too late, it dips them as soon as it sees it's a car which is when it has already come around the bend.

I had a look at the settings this morning but I'm not sure if this is possible. I'm looking for a way to manually override. So by default be set to auto, but in situations (like a bend on a rural road) be able to press the flash button on the steering wheel, dip the lights, then press again and go back to auto. Is this possible?

I sort of had the same experience, except I hadn't come from an older MY. I test drove the Launch MYJ which is RWD with Acceleration Boost, then the RWD a few days later. Then the AWD a few day after that. I had ordered the RWD before any test drives and after the test drives, I changed my order to the AWD and later added the AB. It's definitely a more solid car driving and the extra oooomph is really noticeable. It got me out of a very close call a few weeks ago where some moron pulled into my lane before completing an overtake. Made contact with my mirror as I punched forward and swerved left to avoid her.
