iI’m bored of this, but you must realise ‘a hair dressers car’ is a pejorative term. Like a lot of cars older cars will be depreciated enough a wider clientele can buy them. If you think Audi designed the MK3 TT, especially the model I had, for hair dressers then can I suggest you stick to dinky cars.

And, not a huge fan myself, but the MK1 TT was considered groundbreaking in design at the time.

Not at this time. Maybe in a year or 2 if they drop a bit but I’ve no EV at present. Looking though so stuck in the PHEV most days. I still May end up on a tesla depending on value.

It was a work rental. Given the option, I'd have driven too in my own car.

    Is the bickering over yet?

Anyway re the model y and parking - it’s a horrible car to park. Really wide turning circle. Not great in tight indoor car parks ( as we discovered in France). It’s not a city car.

Is any car that size a city car? It's a big wide car.

Anyway I have studiously avoided tight indoor car parks for the last 20 years as i can't stand them 😁

No but the model y turning circle is wide. My other car is a q5 and previous was an old Kia sorento. I’d say either are easier to park. But maybe my perception is altered by the ID.3 we had as well - which is much easier generally.

Look here. We both know the TT has long been designated as the hairdressers car. I didnt just make up something new on the fly. I wasn't intentionally being pejorative. I like hair dressers. They can drive whatever they like. As can you. Not everyone driving a TT is a hairdresser and not everyone driving a Tesla is a fan of Musk. If you don't like to be categorised, don't do it to others and do try to take a joke...you know, the post where I even said I was half joking and you took personal issue with.

Tesla have won awards too, including for design, but I don't need to say that, or say how much mine cost to make it seem like I'm in the class of prestige and endowment. We have different taste in cars, but mine doesn't define me. I happily drove a 24kWh Leaf for 5 years having moved from an E200K and before that, a string of FTOs....a sports coupe not categorised as a hairdressers car, but it is a sexy little run around 😍.

Now, I think we've both shared our thoughts on this. I haven't taken anything to heart. I don't consider "scarlet for your mother" as a personal insult. I don't think calling a car a hair dressers car is a personal insult either. Neither of us need to approve of the others personal car taste. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. The sun is shining after all.

It wouldn't be boards without a bit of healthy bickering....so long as it doesn't get heated and personal.

On the Y.....I haven't had to park in any tight spots yet. I'm less concerned about my parking and the turning circle. It's more the lack of respect other carpark users have for anyone else's property. I always look for an out of the way spot where possible.

Fine, I don’t agree with a lot of the above… but, “normal viewing” to be restored.

Technically you’re correct. The Q5 turning circle is 12.1m, the model Y turning circle is 12m.

You have serious sensitivity powers as you can feel and noticed that 100mm difference 😀

Driving a 5 series into these tight car parks is a nuisance too. I’ve started to be turned off by big saloons lately, especially after having to drive one for the last 3 weeks.

Model Y is easy to park, certainly no more difficult than any other vehicle in the same segment.

Now the Model S is a different story altogether.

my Q5 ( earlier model year) has a turning circle of 11.6 meters compared with 12.1 for model y.

I think so. I looked it up and it seems to have changed with new model.

I think you’re supposed to get someone else to park the model S for you. 😀

My Model S parked itself, sir 😂

It even came to me through summon! Back before they started to lock down loads of the features in Europe!

A friend of mine has a 2016 S model which does everything. However it makes lousy coffee. He loves the car but then he's a tea drinker 😏

He does however have lifetime Tesla charging.

    Could be me!

Love the smell of coffee, hate the taste!

Both my MS’s had free SuC but I rarely used it as I live nowhere near one. Handy for Belfast trips though as I made sure to leave the house with 20% and fill up at castlebellingham to make the most of it. 2014 cars and still pulling 130kw.

My 2016 one, Tesla took it off me as trade in to get rid of the SuC. Paid me substantially over the odds for it!

I found parking a bit off at first. I think the rear camera distorts perception a bit, compared to my old skoda camera anyway.

But again, it takes about 2 days to adjust. I'm sure if I got back in my old car I'd need 2 days to adjust to that too.

The thing i love is the 360 overhead view showing if you are in the white lines. No more looking back, feeling uncomfortably too close to the lines and getting back in to straighten up.

That's interesting how they paid you over the odds to get rid of the charging.

My friend lives within a few minutes of a Tesla charger. How much % extra did you think you got in trading in ?

My friend might be interested in trading up as his car is now nearly nine years old so I'm not sure what he'd get for it on the open market ?

He keeps it like new as it's his pride & joy, even though his wife doesn't like it. It just could be his driving as well 😏

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,155 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

    Over €10k. Probably more.
I sent it over for trade in. I got a valuation of €46k or something. P90DL. I had only bought it for €44k a few months previous.

Then they called me. Asked if it had free SuC active. I said yes. A few days later, €58,807 or thereabouts appeared on the screen. I grabbed a Demo M3P from inventory and they paid me back over €4k into my bank.

Approximate: The Q4 Etron is 10.1, Ioniq 5 is 11.9, Enyaq is 11 while the Y is 12 ……….. I sse my new Y fading before my eyes, and it has everything I want ☹️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 21,311 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

The q4 and enyaq are the same platform and a bit smaller , is turning circle super important to you ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 cerberos

more important to wifey but I’d be staying away from car part with pillars. Just feels very big, few cars bigger other than the Etron or E Class

If you’re mainly eating up miles on country roads and motorways it’s a great car. Was a brilliant car to take to France. But yeah if you’re in tight car parks a lot something else might be a bit easier.

Just happened to be in Paris last week and there were loads of Model 3s and Model Ys running around all over the place. Seemed very popular there - although, not sure they were all locals or visitors from elsewhere.

I see Model Y has the 0.99% offer now, which was one of the things that I got me into buying Model 3 this time last year. Always fancied the practicality of the Model Y hatchback boot compared to the Model 3's design.. but not sure if there is any point upgrading right now - Tesla would probably see some 25k for a 12 month old Model 3, and 45k for their Model Y. I can't see any sense in doing this - but just wondering if anyone has made a similar move recently?

Also still no sign of Zeekr 007 GT or any other good looking EV estate cars…(other than ID7 perhaps)!

    I had a Model Y LR AWD in 2023 and now have a Model 3 RWD 2025.

The 3 is a better driving experience so unless space is really something you would prioritise above everything else, then I would stick with the 3.

That's not taking into account the depreciation or cost argument, purely on comparing both

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,155 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

    I went from a 3 to a Y.
The 3 is a better driving car, handling car and better looking car (relative to what a good looking car is).

But the Y is so much more practical, space, especially for kids and dropping the seats etc

Moved from a 3 I had for 3 years. Picked up a Y in July.

As already mentioned, 3 is a better driver car. Y is a more practical car. The extra space is really handy and as I like to sit waaaay back when driving, anyone behind me in the 3 had little leg room. That's not an issue in the Y.
