    Can anybody help with an ID? My best guess (as someone who knows nothing about birds) is possibly a House Martin. It was damn hard to capture it in flight :)

    I think it's a Sand Martin.

    Great photo. Pin sharp when enlarged. If it was mine I would crop it portrait style, showing the reflection in the water, frame it, and hang it on the wall for everyone to admire. 😉

    Mod: <<snip>> Just a reminder that it's illegal to approach/disturb/photograph nests and nesting areas without a valid licence.

    I'm afraid pictures of nests won't be allowed in this forum for the reasons outlined here:

    i understand why the post was deleted, but rest assured that the photo was taken about 20m away from the nest, and probably twice the distance from the footpath that passes directly underneath the nest, which is a fairly well trodden path. no harm came to the birds.

    Goldcrest

    This was original jpeg shot with no cropping.

    Was sitting at our fish pond just past nine last night when something very small flew by at speed thought it might be a wren. Anyway it returned and landed on the waterfall of the pond and to my surprise it turned out to be a goldcrest. I had my camera with me and took some shots bear in mind it was quiet dark at that time here. For the photographers the camera settings were as follows;
    1/30 sec f2.8 iso 2500 at 200 mm. I will now keep a look out to try and get some better shots. All my photographs since the lockdown were taken in our property and some of the birds I have never seen here before which goes to show what is around if you have the patience and the time to look.

    It would want to be one undesirable snail if it couldn't find a partner out of the entire rest of the species.
