I went for a walk in my local park today and took these photos along the route, two appear to me to be House Sparrows (one of each sex?) based on my research, would love if someone could confirm.

Since I started photographing birds recently I've been keeping track of the birds I identify so I'm trying to improve my identification skills too.

House Sparrow 1 is a Reed Bunting, I wouldn't be confident enough to identify '2' but I'd imagine it's a female.....

Cyrano, this morning at his favourite branch...and a little bit later, about 1.5km further South...Cyrana?

Surprising turn of events...I checked the roosting site this afternoon, and there was a male who was NOT Cyrano (check his much smaller bill) and a female. I wondered if maybe Cyrano was the female but if that is the case, it is not the same bird as Cyrano has quite a bit of orange and this female has no orange at all.

Both birds were interacting quite a lot and they checked a half built nest in the same site. The female sat in the nest for about 15 minutes and her head was occasionally visible from the other side of road. I was actually surprised they were checking that nest as it looked too exposed to me.

Today's photos, took a short walk in the park today but was in a rush so I'm quite happy with the shots I got as time was ticking when I got them ha.

This was my first time spotting a male Bullfinch in person since I started birding and my god they are beautiful in person.

Brief update on Christian and Roxanne...Cyrano also hangs around the same roosting site but not interfering.

This is Penny, a swan I meet most days on my walks. 6 eggs in total just laid last week so about 4 or 5 weeks before they hatch, I'll be keeping an eye on this one

Mod: <<snip>> Just a reminder that it's illegal to approach/disturb/photograph nests and nesting areas without a valid licence.

Apply for the licence Muahahha, you can do it online and I'm sure someone here will give you advice if you need any help.

It would be great to have a pictorial update.

Oh no problem, :) I just thought it was something that needed to be clarified (and back in the day, when I didn't know any better, I posted a pic of a nest, too... :o).

I was going to say the same when I first saw it, but I wasn't 100% sure.

It was definitely a Wren I was watching him/her in the garden for a while before I took the picture.

oh right fair enough I didnt know it was illegal to view a swans nest. Just for clarity though I didnt go searching it out in the wild, their nest is on a man made lake that divides two golf fairways. The nest itself is actually only 2 metres from the lakes shoreline and only another 15 metres or so to the green for the 15th hole. Its on my regular walk so it came to me so to speak. Theres deer now too after coming down the mountains onto the golf course for easy feeding.

Im actually worried what might happen, the swans have only been living on this little lake for about three weeks and they set up the nest and laid the eggs about 10 days ago with eggs taking 30-35 days to hatch. But before they hatch it is likely golfers will be back and Im thinking that might make the swans abandon the nest altogether when there's balls flying over it and nearby. I hope that doesnt happen but when the swans made the nest golf had been cancelled, it'll probably be back before those eggs hatch.

First time poster, long time lurker!

Been playing with a new lens the last 10 days or so and got a few pics. Apologies that some are slightly blurry - some were taken from hundreds of yards away and are as close as I can get in my current location.

Below are the ones I know and can (i think!) identify. Would appreciate corrections if they are needed:

For the three below, I was told locally (Donegal) that these are an Albatross, which I believe would be extraordinarily rare for Ireland. I'm thinking more of a Herring Gull. However these birds (there's a pair) are HUGE - 4ft wing span at least. Can anyone confirm?
