I used know a few people from islands off the Scottish coast.
This would not only not be considered weird it would be quite normal.
Think of it as a cold version of Deliverance only more inbred.

My OH is from one of the Western Isles, I like annoying him by pointing out that "The Wicker Man" is just portraying Islanders in their native habitat.

In all seriousness, I hope the full force of the law is used, unlike the slap on the wrist sentences here.

16 should be the age of adult criminal responsibility. He should have been tried as an adult and named.

He had posted on social media that he would like to kill someone for the life experience of doing it. How can people not see he was troubled. His mother contacted police, when she checked their cctv he was seen leaving the house and returning later. The question that struck me is why would a mother check their cctv for something like this if there wasn’t some underlying issues with this kid.

I believe it came up in the case, she checked it to see if the girl in question had passed at any stage and she had any footage.

You people are the worst. You just need to get that little political shot in there don't you?

As a lefty liberal, I'd be happy to see him strung up. He made a choice of sound mind, to hell with him.

I don't know... I find comments like hedgelayers quite amusing, knowing the likelihood of him and his type on AH posting in this thread after the killers identity is released, relies entirely on the skin colour or religion of the culprit (or if he is a traveler). Nothing more, and nothing less.

    I don't have kids but I have a 6 year old niece.

If I thought that anyone laid a finger on that child I'd go pure ape.

Even the thought of a 6 year old suffering a rape attack is sickening

I'm not being smart here but does that really need to be said, shouldn't it just be a given that only the most deeply ill would possibly think otherwise.

The facts of that case and the one being discussed are totally different it's simply ridiculous to equate the two.

    Fair enough.

When I read something like this, I just think. Please let me stand in line, to stone him to death. One person throws one stone, until he’s dead.

Absolutely heartbreaking what happened to that gorgeous little girl. He should never again see the light of day.

At the time it happened there were photos of the bastard and his name all over the internet. The local community all knew the scum who did it.

He will, there is no such thing like in America of incarceration for actual life.

The family of this child will bear a more difficult burden. Was always the way. Sadly.

Seen this case reported every day on STV - the concoction for his defence was off the wall. Essentially the scumbag said under cross examination that he was in a sexual relationship with the 18 year old girlfriend of the father and he sneaked out to have sex with her that night and she must have put his DNA on the 6 year old using the condom that they had used that night. He blamed the killing on the fathers girlfriend and she was framing him for rape and murder

As he is 16, most likely he will be held in a secure unit under a compulsory supervision order until he is an adult

Some of these Island Communities had to take on some dodgy individuals. Google it. Drugs were a big thing too.

Just saying, and nothing to do with the current case.

I suppose many of us think that Island life is idyllic.

There’s some sickening details in the express newspaper if anyone wants to ruin their night. Poor wee lass, I hope that animal suffers.

While I couldn't condone such actions, I feel death would be too good for him. I hope that he lives to a good old age, so that he's got time to suffer for his actions.

117 separate injuries. "Catastrophic" injuries to her private parts. Jesus wept. There's no torture too severe for this evil scumbag.

Drugs and broken families, can the tide be turned? Family values have gone out the window, people have turned their back on the Church and worship money instead.

RIP Alesha. You're in a better place.

Death penalty should be reserved for cases like this, someone who committed an act like that is better dead anyway, its an act of mercy to kill them

Of course he should be strung up, I said nothing about politics.
I mean the type of lefties who are full of empathy for these psychopath's.

I didn't say all lefties are empathic to these cretins.

I didn't know left means anything political, I just thought it was slang for wasters and crusties out causing trouble.

    My apologies

Sorry I disagree, she would be better off not having been raped and murdered surely and lived her life as we all would wish to live ours.

The fact her mother found out she was missing, and subsequently that she was dead, on Facebook is just awful. It's one of the worst cases I've ever come across. He should be named and face the same penalties as any adult. What a depraved scumbag.

Unfortunately, even though this lad is sixteen he needs to be identified. He's likely to commit this type of crime again and so should never be released from prison.
Actually, in the period of 16-25, most people grow up and stop being involved in crime.

Isolated Island living screams out at me. I wonder how this could happen in a so called close knit community where apparently everyone knows/knew everyone else and who they were, and what they did.

I know it is not far from Glasgow, but still.

Poor little child. Awful no matter what. She should be the focus, not speculation on anything else YET.

Perp will be out in a few years due to upbringing/issues I reckon. But I doubt he will be going back to Bute.

I visited this lovely, very friendly, wee island in September, to visit the impressive Mount Stuart house and garden. It’s very easy to visit from Ireland: plane to Glasgow, very short bus ride to Paisley rail station, 40 minutes train to tbe beautiful little Victorian Wemyss Bay rail station, then a £3 30 minute boat ride, a scenic treat, to Rothesay town on Bute. I got to know half the population there chatting at the bus stop and got chatting about the Gaelic etc as a local lady dried the damp bus shelter seat for me with her little scarf! I had read about this awful Alesha tragedy before arriving as I always google news of anywhere before I go justvto be in the picture of what’s going on. There’s s lot of holiday homes rented on the island, a lot of houses are belong to the Mount Stuart Estate and other owners. It’s half remote from Glasgow, but not much more than an hour away, so all sorts of shenanigans can go on involving transient and part-time occupiers of properties. Child abuse, drugs..everything that’s evil, possibly black satanism etc. But the vast majority of Bute people are extremely sociable ordinary sorts like most of ourselves. I visited the museum, and my visit coincided with a class visit from the local school. The kiddies invited me to touch the furry seal on exhibit in the wildlife area, but not too hard so I don’t hurt him!

It sounds like her father's drug habit out her in dangerous situations. It was only a matter of time before something bad happened.

Pity the drug dealer had access to the poor little girl.

I found it strange that the accused tried to implicate the father's girlfriend and mentioned that they had sex. I wouldn't be overly surprised if it transpires that there was something going on there.

Father was watching porn the night she was abducted. Sold drugs to his daughter's murdererer, as well as his sister. Bit rich him calling him an effing scumbag. Needs to take a look in the mirror.

    ffs , that's a stupid baseless accusation.
In fact, blaming the father in any way is low.

nothing relating to him watching porn or drugs leads to what happened to that girl. The only culprit was the fella convicted.

You sound like a leftie liberal alright, trying to get your message across by making a dig at my post.

How could someone who made that choice be of sound mind.

You're way off the mark if you think that a guy who'd do something so horrific is of sound mind.

And if you're stating that YOU'RE A LEFTIE LIBERAL

And you think this guy was of sound mind when he committed this adhorrent crime...

Well if all leftie Liberals think like yourself, I rest my case, because that wasn't an act of sound mind.

    The mind boggles sometimes
