Why would he just give up rugby if he wants to go back to SA? Why not play for a club in SA? He is young enough to play there.
would not be suprised to see him pull on a jersey there. Good luck to him whatever he does.

His home in George is (very) far away from the top teams. Plus he's unlikely to get a big contract offer as he's ineligible for SA.

Hey IRFU, any chance we can have CJ for the Pro14 final, sure you dont need to rest him anymore he'll be grand this season.

Hurley is in the same boat as the likes of Ethan Coughlan, they are sub-academy/NTS players which does not entail being contracted. You would hope both would be offered Academy contracts.

Combined Munster have 3 senior second rows and 6 senior back rows contracted for 2021/2022. 1 of the back row players (POM) and one of the second row players (Beirne) would be away a considerable amount of the season with the national squad.

That leaves 5 senior back row players available for selection and 2 senior second row players available during the international window without factoring in any injuries, the potential for Snyman to be call to the Springboks for Autumn internationals etc.

There is definitely scope for bringing in someone from abroad or another province.

Lets look at the options available to Munster. In the second row there's Thornbury, Dillane, Ryan Jr, Dunne, Maloney. Anyone else?
In the backrow we're looking at Penney, Soroka, Murphy, Deegan. Anyone else?

The PRO14 final between Leinster and Munster has been confirmed for the RDS at 5pm on Saturday 27 March.

Why the RDS and not Thomond?

Leinster won more points this season.

Not meaning to sound smart but if the IRFU was to do like they did with Zebo once CJ has announced that he isn't going to renew his contact he should no longer be considered for international duty..............

How so. George is in Western Cape. E asy direct flight assuming he settles in George immediately. Would love to see him play for Stormers / WP they need someone to replace Kolisi

15 caps.......... Zebo got 35 caps in 5 years and was a Lions tourist, CJ is at 50 caps in 5 years and was a Lions tourist. Zebo was 27 when he decided to move on so there's always the chance/hope he'll come back whereas CJ is in his 30s.

From an Ireland point of view I don't see the benefit of playing him next weekend, he won't be around for the next world cup and we've nothing to play for, why not give someone else a run? It's even better for Munster that he gets a rest.

The IRFU have known about the retirement for a while now, if you read CJ's statement. If CJ was going to be dropped it would have happened prior to the tournament.

Dropping CJ for one game would not be a popular move in the dressing room.

Wasn't expecting CJ Standers announcement. Massive servant to both Munster and Ireland and surely would be welcomed back any time. Will be a huge loss

I wonder is he going back to run his farm in South Africa

Seems to be the plan, his wife and little one have been back in SA for a few months according to Thornley in the IT.

She has done a few. Its groundbreaking because its the first time there is two women in the main roles ie Ref, Assistants, TMO.
Before this the only time there has been two women involved in a match day officiating team is if the 5th or 6th official or timekeeper was female

That is an absolutely super-classy statement from CJ. Quite touching.

She went home last month for CJ's brother's wedding and "family reasons". She posted about not having her Irish passport "yet".
