Hes top of the bill, he will headline.
He always does, neil is support.
Like when he played with mark knopfler a few years back.

Just cant see that happening at an outdoor show. Following Neil and the new band doesn't make sense. Knopfler, yeah, fair enough but Neil new band are a different beast.

If Bob plays last how many will leave after Neil?

Probably not many, until Bob comes on and mutters incoherently over a song that nobody can recognise, then people might start to leave alright. Id stay for the whole thing regardless. Imagine shelling out that much for one gig and then leaving half way through!

There's no way on earth Dylan plays support to anyone...that just wouldn't happen.

Well he did at Oldchella. Great they're on the same bill but a huge misstep.

Not really, Dylan is way bigger than Neil.

Yep but going from a lively rock (bordering on heavy grunge at times) show to Dylan and his jazz band. Extremely capable jazz band nonetheless but still.

Its a little strange alright, but its happening, the timetable has confirmed that, so lets move on

I've had to stay in Carlow cos accommodation in Kilkenny is fully booked. I'm assuming that i won't have too much trouble getting a bus/taxi there and back - am i barking up the wrong tree here though? I want to be able to drink so want to leave the car in Carlow

Still on the fence about this gig

From Waterford so it's not a long journey up the road but ticket price is too high (hoping too pick up a cheap on if I do go) and as cool as it would be too see these legends the songs I've heard are not the most exciting and could be a disaster live with people talking and shouting all the way through it

Have had this before at these legacy type of gigs, which are usually full of event junkies who alas, have little interest in the music, so in recent years, have been going up close to the front, and its way better up there. They usually rail off a big area in front of the stage, so will be in there. Caught Bruce in same place when he was there and it was perfect, so long as you get in early, as its limited to a few thousand in there, first come first served, wristband in and out access - the usual, and they usually don’t over pack the area. Staying in Kilkenny on Saturday night, and leaving most likely, shortly after NY finishes.will give Bob a chance, but have no real interest. Neils the man, and he’s never dissapointed me,

Impossible to get accommodation for this it seems. Me and my friends were thinking of camping somewhere near Kilkenny for the night as we want to go out in the town after the gig. Anyone know of anywhere that would be suitable? As close to the town as possible obviously. Cheers.

I don’t but you might get somewhere closer to the time, cancellations happen, alternatively, and there should be a good choice of transport options come up closer to the gig, i was lucky, as soon as i heard the rumoured dates i booked immediately.

That text with the stage times really got me excited for this. The Neil Young and the Promise of the Real gig a few years back was one of the best I've been to, so was delighted to see that they will probably have a 2 hour time slot.

Should probably give Bob Dylan a chance seeing as he has been the major influence on many of the musicians who I love, I just never got around to him!

Don’t get me wrong, Dylan is, or was at least, a total genius, and one of, if not, the, most influential songwriter of all time.

The first time i saw him was a long time ago, (RDS indoor)and one my first handul of bigger gigs, (the ones you never forget) but it stuck with me, for all the wrong reasons, he kept on forgetting the words, and the band jammed on, as he went back to his guitarist to help remind him of the next words, this happened multiple times at that gig, and i have never seen repeated performance screwups like this before, or since, and i go to a good few gigs, this wasn’t a one off mistake, he was out of it - totally i assume, and it just isn’t on, to be incapable of performing, which was the case with that gig, he came onstage with a hoodie on, hood up fully, so you could barely see him, looked to me he didn’t want to be there at all, i’ve seen may acts drunk, but they were still capable of performing and delivering, so with Dylan, it went downhill from that first gig. I saw him twice later on, at festivals, and he wasn’t great. So while i still listen to him, i just have not the interest in seeing him live.

Yeah, that's the downside of gigs outside of Dublin - accommodation is limited in comparison and gets snapped up quickly.

I booked a place in Abbeyleix yesterday that seems ok and about a 30 minute spin, so not so bad. Even better if there's any buses being run from the town so I can have a drink!

This thread is going to be spicy the morning after the show.

The inevitable disappointment when 78 year old Bob Dylan doesn't look or sound like this guy.

Sounds great at the moment though. Band are so good.

    It's a perfect storm really...

"Neil played these endless guitar solos and the outros to his tunes went on longer than the actual songs."

"He didn't play After the Goldrush."

"He didn't address the crowd once."

"Bob didn't come out from behind his keyboard."

"Bob didn't address the audience either"

We need a bingo card... :)
