None of them are good candidates. Need to look at the system that allows these ones through. It's almost as if councils controlled by large political parties wanted weak candidates.

Can you suggest a better system which is at least as transparent and ultimately controlled by the electorate as this one please.

If you read my comment, which you quoted. I said hopefully it will lead to a discussion on the topics his raised during the campaign. I never mentioned that Casey could/would or should inact legislation about the issues.

But maybe, just maybe he can ignite a discussion

He’s already done that. We don’t need to put him into the Aras for that.

His comments will be harder to ignore if he is making them from the Aras.

Only until MichaelD has security escort him out.

The same security that let someone wander in for a chat a month or so ago??

We in Ireland have short memories, we need reminding on a regular basis, that's why it would be great to get Casey into office* it also lets politicians know there is a taste within the country for reform

*I don't think he'll win as the polls don't suggest it, but stranger things have happened

Wow #keepthepoet is trending, how many have read one of his poems

His poetry is shi*te, people are influenced so easily by the media.

His PR team have done some serious work

Yeah, most people supporting Casey are doing so because of his history of publishing white papers on Irish societal policy, his record in public forum and his clear communication of ideals on the campaign trail over several years

Still, will be funny whan MichaelD romps home and Casey turns out to be a damp squib.

Yes it will be funny alright when higgins romps home, gets another 7 years and flies around ireland in his lear jet, stays in expensive hotels and goes unvouched for his huge salary all at the taxpayers expense while there are hundred sleeping homeless, on hospital trolleys, scraping by on ends meat while he enjoys the lap of luxury. Funny all right..

He flew within Ireland twice in last year.
What hotels do you think the leader of the country should stay in?
    How is his salary unvouched?

I was specifically talking about this cesspool of a thread, where a lot of Casey fans will be shown to be have been utterly delusional about his chances.

Cast my vote for MDH this morning and happy to have done so. He’s served Ireland well the past seven years, and I’m happy to see him continue.

what will truly be funny, is if one of the other candidates win and do the exact same things but some people in here go suddenly quiet about it.

It would be lovely if those lamenting the cries of the "middle income" practised what they preached and started to look closer to home to see what they could do for the betterment of society.

Heaven forbid, maybe even get involved in our political system instead of thinking voting a guy to an office with zero powers will make a difference.
Do you really think these views would have gotten a media airing only that they were said as part of a presidential campaign?

Did Divorce, SSM, Repeal happen as a result of a candidate in a presidential election airing them publicly?

It's possible that Casey's remarks may drive turnout up - the silly idea that Casey is really challenging may get decent people to actually go out and vote rather than stay home confident that MDH has it in the bag.

    Casey number 1.

Time to abolish the social welfare ethos of this country and reward the working people for once.

Voted Casey #1 this morning. Was talking to several neighbors. All Casey voters. Encourage anyone not considering voting or undecided to give him a vote. Every vote counts to get our message across.

You still don't get it. PC winning is not the victory people are after, it's the change in conversation that they want.

People want to be listened to, not talked down to and be told you can't be having those bad thoughts, let almost say them out aloud, even if they are their own experiences.

    What is their thread count?!?
    High I bet! The b#stards!

All the other candidates are of course famously pro welfare sheets, burglars and encourage trespassers.

    Decent people.:pac:

    Too much smug.

    This whole thing is ridiculous.

I was going to vote Casey, but decided to place him 6th on the ballot paper as a protest vote against the echo chamber of after hours. How could anybody for for someone who hates Ireland and Irish people as much as Casey does? Everyone I know, including dead people, agree with me.

Let me know if I'm doing this right lads.

This is beyond ridiculous at this stage.

    Local elections
    National elections
    European elections.
    At least every 5 years.
first and maybe only chance you get this message across

These types of posts are laughable if they weren't also supported by claims that "everyone thinks this way".

Did Divorce, SSM, Repeal happen as a result of a candidate in a presidential election airing them publicly?

They were the result of 30 years of hard campaigning with the media pushing it in particular, in the last 10 years.

Should people have to wait another 30 years for today's issues to be dealt with?
