Leaked benches of the 5080, not looking great considering prices will probably be €1400+ for aib cards

Given the dire stock predictions and the expected prices, I'm tempted to skip this generation. It's already landing behind schedule and if the reviews are anything to go by it almost feels like a refresh of the 40 series. If that is the case we won't be long waiting for the next generation either. I don't fancy waiting four months to get a decent priced card … feels a bit meh. We'll see how things are in a couple of weeks.

Yeesh. Doesn't bode well for the 5070 and 5070ti either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,534 ✭✭✭xtal191

Yeah and if that's the case I don't see AMD selling the 9070xt or 9070 at reasonable prices

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,391 ✭✭✭rob808

Yea Rtx 5080 gonna be expensive on launch €1400-€1500 - €1700 hopefully 5070 and 5070TI be closer MSR price and hopefully better supply.

I'm guessing we'll be looking at €1000 minimum for the 5070TI AIB cards and maybe €800 for the 5070

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,530 ✭✭✭Icyseanfitz

Jesus, maybe I'll just keep the 1080ti...again

seems like the 5080 is worse than expected . Only place it leads is in raytracing . get a 4080 super or 7900xtx seems to be the gist of the what the reviewers are saying

THings dont look good for the 5070 and 5070ti . Again dlss4 seems to be nvidias bet for perfomance . They are going all out on AI features . These in eyes are not gaming cards . They are AI cards that can game .

I'm not sure where anyone got any expectation for anything different from the 5080. Once you saw the specs and saw the prices it was obvious there was very little performance uplift for gaming from the new generation, if there was there is no way nvidia would have reduced the MSRP for the 5070 5070ti and even just holding the price 4080 Super price of $1000 for the 5080 is a price drop by nvidia's current standards ;)

When it seems they had their entire expected 2025 Blackwell run of professional cards pre-ordered a while ago any price drop at all just screamed that they couldn't defend the consumer cards without the price change because it's not like they have TSMC fab time they need to find something to make with.

I think there's a crossroads rapidly approaching now with everyone on "4nm" while "3nm" should be reasonably mature and "2nm" probably hitting mass production this year. With all the AI slush funds being thrown at them I could see nvidia throwing down the pile of cash required to stop Apple claiming "2nm" as their own and if that happens get ready for a massive improvement in performance, though I shudder to think of the price! In all likelihood though I'd guess they would only make the giant chips on "2nm" and maybe even leave the mid-range on "4nm" but with a new process maybe the yields would be such that you could have a 6070ti using the same chip as the 6090 but where the 6090 is using 90% of the silicon, the 6080 50% and the 6070ti 33% or something equally bonkers. Though I think it's also possible they could just make non-consumer cards on a smaller node and leave the consumer cards on "4nm" until they have more capacity on a better node then they can sell to business. I'd say their biggest interest in the RTX cards now is just as a way to make sure AMD/Intel can't use those revenues to help them try to compete for the big money, with it still being on "4nm" I'm not even sure they really need the 5090 for yield reasons which might explain the rumours of minimal stock.

We really need Intel to get 18A right, quickly and producing volume. Even if that just means in the short term that Intel stop using TSMC that opens some capacity back up (including some on "3nm") but in the long run it should also keep TSMC pricing in check as right now I suspect they are gleefully rubbing their hands while negotiating with everyone while eyeing up all the ways to make even more from "2nm" then they did on "3nm" by selling it all initially to Apple. And of course if Intel have their own process firing that opens up a far more realistic window for them to have another pop at making a bigger gpu.

For me the most revealing thing today was AMD didn't announce a 9070xt price and release their embargo. Giving nvidia the free shot to sell any 5080s before that info is out there screams to me that they aren't expecting to price it aggressively.

I would say they price the 9700xt around same price as 5070TI and 9700 around same as RTX 5070 cant see AMD charging anymore.

There probably also waiting for reviews of 5070Ti and 5070 to see were there cards sit against the 9700xt and 9700.

I finally realise the review I wanted to see is up so in case anyone else wants to see a review dealing with the video side of things and some more stuff that isn't just how many game frames they can push (though it covers that tangentially when looking at the impact of streaming on it):

A bit annoying though that he hasn't got his hands on a B580 so only had an A770 in there (where relevant) from the Intel side.

Do Scan accept body parts and if so does anyone know what will they want in exchange for a dual-slot FE 5090 ;)

If they price them the same as those they will be dead on arrival imo, unless they are much better performing at the same price, AMD need to aggressively undercut/disrupt (like the original Ryzen stuff) or people will just continue to buy Nvidia

If it plays your games at the settings you want, don't change.

(he says, realising his 3080 will probably die before it gets replaced)

Yea probably just gonna get 5070 ti or 4080 super.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,534 ✭✭✭xtal191

Yeah considering you can get a 4080 Super for in around 1200 on some sites, nobody should be touching a 5080 that's close to 1400 and especially not over that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,391 ✭✭✭rob808

I wait and see what 5070ti and Rtx 5070 price are going to be like at launch.

The price 5080 might be high because of limited supply so price might get better later.

Im hoping supply of 5070/Ti are better priced but probably looking between a €1000 to €800 for AIB models.

I don't see either being reasonably priced, 5070ti will prob start at €1000 and go to stupid money so a 4080 Super for €1200ish would prob still be better value. 5070 is pointless with only 12gb ram, a few benches yesterday showed the 5080 maxing out 16gb.

To be honest if AMD priced the 9070xt well I'll prob go for that or the 7900xtx if that goes down. I was really hoping to go for the 5080 or 5070ti before launch but now I don't see many positives about the 5000 series at all.

Saw a 4080 go for 900eur on Adverts, good deal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,391 ✭✭✭rob808

9700xt only 10% slower than RTX 5080 so if it priced well AMD onto a winner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 813 ✭✭✭minitrue

I guess the UK FE cards went live slightly randomly (maybe 2:10pm) and sold out in under 30 seconds, no doubt the full scalper bot army is back! Or at least what I saw went from "Coming Soon" to "Out of Stock" in about 30 seconds!

The 5080 stock on Scan might have lasted a touch longer, I'd had a look a few minutes after 2 and saw 3 at least looking like they were there to order with the cheapest £1200 (Vs £979 for the FE and cheapest card they had a price listed for). A few minutes later they were all gone. I didn't see any 5090s but as I said it was a few minutes after 2 by the time I looked over there out of curiosity.

Did you buy one don't know when caseking doing there or maybe already happened shame you can't pre-order for next batch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,967 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

Full paper launch, yet the internet is somehow giving AMD flack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,534 ✭✭✭xtal191

They sold out straight away at 2pm, same with OCUK and almost every site

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,391 ✭✭✭rob808

AMD might have a proper launch with people being able to buy one come march by delaying it.

I want to buy a rtx 5080 but never seem to have any luck buying a graphic cards at launch.

I wouldn't pay those prices I can imagine what ggmachine would charge since there looking for €915 for a 9800x3D.

I guessing I have to wait till March or April to find one at a reasonable price hopefully supply be a lot better.
