I have stopped caring about the GPU market at this stage. There seems to be enough people willing to hand over collossal sums for mid-range cards that it doesn't matter.

I have an RX6650 now that I will run until it's dead or I can't even run games at lowest settings anymore. Then I'll replace with some other lower-end card that I'll run into the ground as well.

I'm sure there's a reason but I really can't understand why AMD products are priced so close to Nvidia when they lack the same feature set that drives people to buy Nvidia in the first place like DLSS.

Because it costs money to make and develop them. I remember years ago. Back before Nvidia had more powerful cards or DLSS people still bought Nvidia despite the fact AMD/ATi were just as good. Anyone remember that Scottish guy who used to make interesting YouTube videos about the subject.

Ah those can't be right, ridiculous, no one will buy them

I think if AMD get their pricing right, I'll be going to the Red team this time. Nvidia are just taking the mickey now.

As a wireless VR gamer using virtual desktop I was advised to buy an Nvidia card as they're meant to be far ahead when it comes to video encoding which is what virtual desktop uses.

It uses codecs like 10-bit HEVC and AV1 and transmits them over WiFi. I have a dedicated WiFi 6 router specifically for VR.

With the estimated prices and the fact that the 5000 series might not have much of an increase in raw power, it's putting me off getting one of them and I'll possibly opt for a 4000 series card instead if the prices drop.

Plenty of rumours (I know, I know) that stock will be low again for this launch. Yay.

4090s founders editions like gold dust right now, seeing scalpers look for €3k+.

Will be interesting to see if 5070/80 will scratch the itch.

im really interested in getting a 9070xt if rumored performance and prices are to be believed, so long as amd dont fcuk it up and price it like nvidia

Let hope it not a paper launch and supply reasonably good hearing rumors that RTX 5090/80 supply going to be tight.

I'm in the wrong here and need to correct.

You were closer to the truth, @ironictoaster, and at the time were in the right. Nvidia changed to the 23rd for MSRP 5090 cards.

I like enforcing a day long embargo on AIB card reviews, further underscoring their attitude to "partners"....

Retailers, AIBs, and System Integrators warn of GeForce RTX 50 series shortages and delays

Maybe AMD delays make sense in this context - does it matter that 5090/5080/5070 are "best" when you can't buy them?

Reviews for 5090 landing. Down the stack is going to get interesting.

General consensus is that 5090 is a glorified 4090Ti. Disappointing. My wallet is happy.

Watched a good few and the concensus is that its a RTX4090+ . 30% more hardware for 15-17% more raster performance . Most performance uplift is from DX12 and driver capabilities rather than the GPU itself . The Neural cores seem to better than the older AI cores been able to take advantage of software . This is been sorta confirmed as DLSS4 can forced on in the NVIDIA app in dlss3 games giving marginally better performance .

I was looking forward to this launch . Been running an AMD gpu the last couple of years because raytracing performance was abysmal even on the best cards . since path tracing is starting to properly mature and new games are requiring it , i was thinking its time to go nvidia . Looking at it now i think i will wait for the next series nvidia GPUs . It reminds me of the performace difference between the 1080 and the 2080 . Slight gains in raster but but raytracing was the bigger selling point . THis time its AI cards .

It depends on AMD now with FSR4 and who will win out in the mid range . we still have to see the true performance figures for the 5070 and 5080 .

And this entire refresh generation finally ends with a…meh. Unless Reflex2 does something wonderful with Frame/Multi-Frame Gen gameplay response times, and HU/Steve implied it doesn't.

Was reading in a Discord of people selling their RTX 4090s for 1350eur used

Goddamn, I wouldve jumped on those! 😂

Yeah, I wish I had been more on the ball. Not really sure what to do now…

They're not available on Scan until the 30th anyway.

Are the 5080 reviews out this week?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,967 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

29th January (day before release), just to be extra annoying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,534 ✭✭✭xtal191

Only the FE, all the AIBs are the same time as release which is an absolute pain in the hole. Are there any AIBs to avoid when it comes to Nvidia? I've had AMD for years now and always went with Sapphire

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,443 ✭✭✭Mr Crispy

I know they'll be the worst value in the stack, but realistically it's where I'll have to look.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,967 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

ASUS because they just upcharge for no reason 😅

MSI Suprim seem to be the best models on 5090 side.

If you're worried about size, check INNO3D, MSI Ventus, maybe ASUS Prime.

Well you'd be helping out the neighbourhood with vast amounts of power but not helping the neighbourhood environmentally.
