I know you don't want chat on this thread, but I couldn't resist not retelling this one after reading the Noxious Weeds Act.

I attendend an historical outing to a former Constabulary barrack where the talk was given by a retired Garda. A part of his talk told us of his difficulty prosecuting farmers who neglected to remove noxious weeds from the land. (1950/60s). He would compile his list of offenders, which he duly sent to the Dept for instructions. He said for some unknown reason the Dept would never get back to him.

“ Number 38 of 1936.NOXIOUS WEEDS ACT, 1936.Prosecutions Section 8 8.—(1) Proceedings for an offence under any section of this Act shall not be instituted except by or with the consent of the Minister. ”

I'm not sure what part of the country you're from but if you ever want to get a good view of the wexford countryside go to Slieve Coillte. There's a road up to it directly across from the entrance to John F Kennedy park. You can drive the car right to the top and there's a carpark/viewing area up there.
I haven't been to Kennedy park in years but I was up at Slieve Coillte today. Perfect view of the new Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy bridge crossing the Barrow river there too.
You can also see Kennedy town/New Ross from there too. :pac:

Had a look on Google maps to see the bridge. Either they're building 2 bridges or else they should get better engineers. :pac:

from north Cork, 2 1/2 hours each way. had planned on trying to get down to Hook Head lighthouse on the way home but time went against us.

Really good to see a part of the country I had never been to before and will go back soon. My father's side are from Kerry so we always went west for days out rather than east.

Ah it's a composite of two different sat images that haven't lined up.
It could be a purposeful exercise by Google for the Irish government to reduce the cost a bit when it's shown to the BAM executives..;)

You would've been really really stuck for time if you did head down to Hook.

There's a sand castle/sculpture competition going on in Duncannon which wouldn't be far away. And the traffic was just chocka around that area. But it's a great area for a drive around in a normal time.

The whole county is full of festivals this weekend. Gorey mainstreet is blocked with some festival. There's a Rockin Food festival in Enniscorthy and then that other one in Duncannon.

Bit like the 2 brothers from galway tendering for the Channel Tunnel. Each would dig from either end. If they failed to meet underground the British/French would get 2 tunnels for the price of one.

For anyone thats interested. The last field I licked got topped yesterday. The topper was raised for this field. Plenty of stones, dips, mounds etc. Not sure if the kill was as good. Definitely gone brown but a bit more yellowish/green at the roots. We'll see. I just topped the bottom of the field, it was to heavy to lick.



Then started into a nice field of thistles.

If it's a week sprayed it should die off, was it roundup or mcpa, I found that more came back from roundup.

It's over two weeks licked. It was gallop so same thing really. The father licked another bit before I licked that and it has died better. To much grass on it atm to top though.
This was the first field I licked this year. I'd say it has about 10-15% regrowth.

The weather the last few years is great, I had 3 acres that I never bothered with and when I started thinking of leasing I got stuck into it 3 years ago with Mcpa and mowing, it looks spectacular now, my tenant reseeded it the first year.
It was that bad that I was missing a ewe for a fortnight and never copped her on her back in it, she lived, had she been a texel there wouldhave been only bones left. I'm nearly ashamed to say it but the fencing is very good and 200 + 300 lambs in the batch so would only count them when they were in the handling unit

The first field I posted just there used to be wild. Got lost in it as a child many times. Rushes 4/5 foot high in it. Got a digger in and took 50 odd stones out and my father topped it after that for the 1st time in years. Took him days! Slowing inching through on the clutch. Not a great field now or anything. Still plenty of stone and rushes but a lot better then before.

But when they came to inspect for forestry they hit a hard pan about eighteen inches down and they claimed that the trees would just fall over.
I reckon it's my example of climate change. UP to five years ago you wouldn't drive the jeep across it two years in a row, and now there's forage harvesters and 20 ft trailers taking silage out of it. They failed one cut and he just came back with the zero grazer a fortnight later and got it.
Be interesting to see it if we get a run of bad years,
That field is gravelly and I used to out winter ewes on it, strip it in end august and strip graze from mid december so it was well abused

Just back from a funeral in Cork to find no power in the fencer and no ram with the ewes
1.Found the fecker lying in the cattle shed cos when all you have to do is chase skirt and eat grass all day sure ya would need a break!!
2. Someone disconnected the over head wire so the silage trailers wouldnt break it....... I would fire him only he works for nothing!!!

Great day at a family fun day- nice vintage rally and rain stayed away.

Met the brother- asked him to give me a hand stripping my lawnmower- he borrowed it and returned it broken. He responded- you need a ride on lawnmower for your lawn anyway. Last thing he will borrow off me.
