Indeed. And I hope most people understood they were voting for abortion on demand.

Abortion is dropping all across the EU where it's legal. Nobody celebrates an abortion, it's never a happy decision. But I'll certainly celebrate safety for women and trust for women in looking after their own health.
I would suspect that abortion in Ireland will continue to be at a low level regardless of the legislation drafted, whatever form that may take. Back in the divorce referendum days there were the dire warnings from the NO quarters that we'd go down the English/French[insert European country with high divorce rates here] trend of stats for high divorce rates if it came in, but many moons on we have one of the lowest divorce rates in the western world and the lowest in Europe. Likely and somewhat ironically because of "good oul catholic Ireland" where it wasn't an option so couples tended to have "Irish engagements" that lasted years and married later in life(the latest in the western world), rather than the jump in with both feet, knowing there was an out and at younger ages found elsewhere.
You can be guaranteed that many people were bullied into a Yes vote.
How? Jesus, this subject really brings out the paranoid on both sides. How the hell does anyone know how I or anyone else votes? I could say I'm a rosary bead fiddling No voter, or a lentil eating Right on Yes voter, but in the booth you're on your own and can mark your X the way you damn well choose.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Did I read somewhere John Waters said he would leave the country if it voted yes?

I'll buy the ticket for him, if he wants....Maybe set up a go fund me to get him a one way ticket to St Helena

Let's hope when there is the first 12 week abortion both sides are sensitive enough not to advertise it.

Where will this happen Hollis street abortion wing...wow. It's hard to believe this is actually going to happen.

Sad day for Ireland if so. I feel ashamed to be Irish if that's the way it goes.

Shameful comment. Do you not accept Irish democratic decisions.

You are severely in the minority and maybe you should reflect on your own thoughts, words and judgements.

Good and a good FU to all the vote NO advertisements that I had to endure on the internet the past 2 weeks, including on boards.ie
Absolute disgrace allowing internet advertisements for something like this, and was google as it was their ad company regardless of what they said.
Even if it was all Vote Yes advertisements I would think it was a disgrace.
Regardless looks like a sensible outcome.

Ignoring idiots who comment "far right" because they don't even know what it means

Ah well there you have it folks. Whooping and hollering and celebrating abortion on demand.

Luckily I think you represent a small minority and most Yes voters are sensitive to the issues concerned.

If people like you had their way girls and women would still be clandestinely ordering pills online or sitting alone in Travelodges in Liverpool waiting to access a medical procedure available in nearly every other European country.

    You've no moral highground mate.

Ireland's a mad country. At the same time this news breaks, there's a woman on the Late Late show talking about how she sees and talks to angels on a daily basis.

Just switched on, the woman talking about being attacked ??

Day one my hole. You stayed quiet, never said a word for 30 long years, no protests, no lobbying, no effort.. happy with the status quo, sat on your hands happily in control or women.

Proposals only came along in the last 12 months from the government to vote on.
Up to then it was unclear what they were proposing.
So another lie and misrepresentation to go with what seems like an infinite number of lies at this stage.

The issue with the exit polls is always the fact that people will lie to the pollsters. It always happens.

I would still be hopeful (if not confident) of a Yes win but I do still think it will be closer than suggested by the IT/IPSOS poll. Also, I think the RTE poll is the same pollsters, could be wrong.

Rte are using behaviour and attitudes with a sample size of 3000

Abortions in hospitals would only be required for beyond 12 weeks for tragic circumstances such as FFA

Are you more of an expert on this than the several inquiries by consultants and international experts, which concluded that if she had been given an abortion when she asked, she would now be living a healthy life?

    ...and it's bye bye Iona.

I would pay fabulous amounts of money to be a fly on the wall in places like that the next few days.

There doesn't seem to be one county where No would lead? That's better for Yes than even marriage equality was!

Of course I'm celebrating the result. Irish women now don't have to suffer lonely trips to England or order dodgy pills online to end unwanted pregnancies. For the first time ever they can exercise control over their own bodies in their own country. I'm delighted. B*llocks to the whingebags.

Do you think a woman who actually has an abortion celebrates? People have made a choice and may feel their choice has been vindicated by the result but nobody wins in an abortion.

Never again will a woman sit in Dublin airport with an appointment in a clinic in who-knows-where, alone and afraid and with no medical advice behind her.

Never again will a 17 year old girl order mystery pills from the internet in attempt to save herself an early pregnancy.

Never again will we turn our backs on fellow citizens in crisis.

Generations before us had their opportunity to run this country as they saw fit. Backs were turned as young boys were beaten and raped, whispers about fallen women and babies in septic tanks. That Ireland is dead and buried. Never again.

No, but now we'll have an upsurge in 5 and 6 month abortions in healthy pregnancies, many under the auspice of mental health, whereby unborn humans will be excruciatingly pulled apart limb by limb. It's such a great day for us all to jump around in faux joyousness.

And never again will unborn children have any protection in the womb. Something to celebrate indeed.

Take no credit so for all the relief in mothers in tragic situations who can now access healthcare in Ireland. Remind yourself that your preference was that they go to Britain for an abortion.

People on each side voted for what they believed, lets respect that. People can take credit for abortions if that is their thing.

But the exit polling was still accurate. Plus, 2M of 139M is only a 1.4% swing.

Hate to be that guy, but this vote is in the net.

It's well within the margin of error.

    68/32 with a margin of +/- 1.5%.

Any company that makes it's money polling people that got the margin THAT wrong, wouldn't be in business.

    It's done.
