Double voting/posting or triple for a Yes? Flying home tomorrow and no intention of returning within 18 months to live anyway

How are people finding the turnout at their polling stations? Seemed to be very high when I was walking past the Dun Laoghaire station just after it opened this morning. On my way to Glasthule to vote Yes, very interested to see what kind of traffic they've been seeing throughout the day.

    No

Delighted to see the end of it.
    Argued dispicably on both sides.

This particular pole wouldn't have too many nun's, priests or oaps so it is very distorted but I'm thinking that it is still a bit yes landslide

Delighted to vote yes to continue Ireland's progress in to a modern society. I will take great satisfaction out of this passing, assuming it does, when you consider how the no side campaigned.

I have no problem with ordinary people voting no who can't bring themselves to vote for abortion, it's the nut jobs that I will have a wry smile at.

Don't expect the legislation to be enacted quickly. The ultra conservative, bible bashers will fight it tooth and nail, dragging any tiny thing through the courts and it will be funded through very questionable alliances with American churches.

You're deluded if you think the nutjobs are on one side.

My worry is this poll will be skewed by the generally "liberal" leaning of many boards users.
The RTE exit poll tonight will be interesting especially to compare it's projection with the final tallies.

From discussing the topic with friends/family/colleagues, anyone expressing a no opinion has been conspicuously rare.
I do worry that many are saying one thing while intending to vote another.
It's hard to take and a hold a contrary opinion in the age of social media and I fear many may keeping their powder dry and will vote no.

Yeah, boards will always skew more liberal than Ireland in general. I will say though there was a similar poll for the marriage ref and the results were in the high 70s. So if that is any indication to go by then it should be a yes.

Similarly when everyone was expecting the Seanad to be abolished the boards poll suggested it would be retained. In the end, much to everyones surprise it was retained. So I think boards givers a bitter indication than we might think.

If the results were down in the low 60s/50s I'd be very worried. At the moment i'm quietly thinking this might pass but I'm too scared to say it out loud

neither side covered themselves in glory - nutjobs all round - and sick of celebrities from other countries weighing in - i respect people who voted no because that is their honest opinion - someone who voted yes because they want to agree with Russell Crowe or any other celebrity should get their head examined!!

Voted no. Am not a nutjob and spoke to only 3 people about this. Just couldn't bring myself to vote yes.

You'd be surprised. A few times when canvassing I went to houses of an elderly woman who looked at us very suspiciously and made us nervous of a bad reaction. Until we said we were Yes campaigners and they absolutely lit up and told us they couldn't bloody wait to go vote Yes. A lot of older women suffered a raw deal in this country and are only too delighted to ensure younger women won't suffer the same.

Yeah... I wonder about the elderly lady demographic. People assume that they are a no but I’d say many have a story or two to tell...

Personally I was a soft yes. It was the yes side that really cemented it for me. I thought they were fantastic, respectful and really explained their side well. The no side on the other hand.....

In saying that I would never let the behaviour of either side influence how I vote (as some people have done here and on the marriage ref) what is important is what the outcome of the vote means.

I also highly doubt many people let the likes of Russell Crowe influence their vote. It does however highlight the issue. Believe or not I spoke to people today who were not sure if they would vote cause they haven't really thought about it and don't know what yes or no will mean

Yes. Too young to vote in 1983 but my opinion formed back then is the same 35 years later.
