Multiple fatalities have been reported and a suspect is in custody after a shooting at a Texas high school.

Santa Fe High School was placed on lockdown following an "incident involving an active shooter" on Friday morning, according to the school district. Assistant Principal Cris Richardson told reporters that one suspect had been arrested.

Law enforcement sources told local news outlets that at least eight people had been killed.

Not really shocking, which is a tragedy in itself.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    Say it with me folks:

    NOTHING TO DO WITH IRELAND

Now let's get back to discussing Israel and Palestine.

How many more will it take before they reaxminne their gun policies?

I'm not sure that's ever likely to happen.

Not until the current generation of teenagers is in government anyways.
And probably not even then :(

It's a cycle that seems unbreakable.

When you can legally pop into many local shops with an AR-15 slung over your shoulder, your country has a problem.

Ironically, the share price of gun companies will surge

Suspect is in custody so I’m wondering does that imply it’s a caucasian rather than African American or other minority

If they didn't after Sandy Hook, they never will.

Just another day in the US where things are so f***ing bleak that "at least they're old enough to speak out on behalf of their dead friends like in Florida, rather than have the NRA try to tell everyone it's all fine and carry on, like the much younger children in sandy hook" is about the best positive spin that can be put on this.

How high can you count? Well it will take a number higher than that I think.

If they didn't after Sandy Hook, they never will.
This could get more interesting (and a lot more brutal) as it came out in the week that the NRA, who spent much of last year running ads literally calling on Americans to commit terrorism against other Americans, acted on behalf of Russian interests during hard US election - https://www.google.ie/amp/s/amp.thedailybeast.com/kremlin-used-nra-to-help-trump-in-2016-says-senate-intelligence-committee

Wherever that goes is going to be very much worth keeping an eye on, as without a functioning NRA this could go absolutely bonkers on both sides.

Most of these mass shootings seem to happen in NRA "country" where the easy availability of guns and loose laws are common. The South or Mid West, where the people are suspicious of those gun control folks in Washington and their efforts to rid the country of high calibre automatic rifles.

You'd think the penny would drop at this stage?

    Sadly not.

Its highly likely some of the victims were related to NRA members as happened in other mass shootings.

    RIP to the victims.

Treated as a form of entertainment these shootings, but real parents lose there real kids, and the media will lap it up while the Government will send their thoughts and prayers.
We never see the true aftermath, all you see it the candlelight vigils and the hugs and love, like it's a positive that it happened.
About time the bloody dead bodies were on the front pages, and the parents of those lost were giving a voice, maybe that will have some effect.

    Guns do kill people.

A nutcase without a gun is just a nutcase. A nutcase with a gun is a threat to a lot of people. And unless everyone is armed with an AR-15 and body armour, there is nothing to stop them. A handgun is useless in these circumstances.

On a societal level America seems to value guns more than kids.

I wouldn't agree with this statement. I'm fairly sure most gun owners are parents and that they value their children's lives.

Just because you like guns doesn't mean that you don't value the life of a child.

Yeah, who in Ireland cares that 8 kids were shot in killed because of a silly legislation in a country that we are very close to. What kind of utter MORON would actually give a sh*t about kids dying? I mean, you'd have to ... wait, no, feck off.

Another boards thread on America's gun laws (rolls eyes). Guys they aren't changing the gun laws get over it. You don't live there you don't get the culture. It's the culture of violence needs addressing not banning guns.

no, it's definitely banning the guns that needs addressing.

Also it's an internet forum, of course people will discuss world news like this, if you don't want to, then don't come into the thread complaining.

The easy availability of guns has done nothing to make America or Americans safer.

More guns = more gun deaths.

They aren't EVER banning guns. 99% of people there are responsible gun owners. If they didn't change it after Sandy Hook they will never change it.

Ah ****, not again. Awful news. The US has a big issue with these mass shootings and they need to take steps to prevent them in future.

No silly.....! junkies shoot up drugs....

Its Americans who shoot up schools....

Thought the plan wasn't to keep weapons out of schools but pack more in with more people being armed, teachers etc! The NRA need to whip Trump back into line like after the last school shooting when Trump also wavered a bit in terms of possible regulations.

Donald Trump, broke off from an event at the White House and called the situation “ a very sad day”. He condemned “an absolutely horrific attack” and said his administration was “determined to do everything in our power” to prevent such incidents.

“We are with you in this tragic hour and we will be with you forever. We will do everything we can to keep weapons out of our schools and out of the hands of those who should not have them,” he said.

A van has many other uses. A gun is designed to kill people.

Guns can be used safely. It's their misuse that's the problem.

That leaves 1% of 325,000,000 to avoid.
