That's rte pretending to be "with it"when they've got no clue

It's RTE's version of 'Pokemon Go-to the polls'... that infamous cringe fest of a speech that was the early indicator Hillary was losing.

I don't think there is any presenter on RTE that is 'with it' anymore. Ryan Tubridy used to delight in the fact he 'wasn't with it'.
The 'Young Old Fogie', so to speak. Now he's trying to be the 'hip cool presenter'...

IT's more cringey than watching your granny getting a tramp stamp.

All summer long RTE have been "bigging up" Love Island. Are they hoping to screen it sometime soon? Or, are they trying to attract listeners cos it's popular?

Ray Darcy, for one. "Ah shur I hate that kind of thing but Jenny said "Watch a bit" and then I was hooked". Right

Tubridy's kids got him into it. Of course, he'd never have watched it , only for that.

Sean O Rourke only got into it when he heard about the "Fanny Flutters".

Plenty other much better TV shows people watch out there. Peaky Blinders, The Handmaid's Tale, Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul, etc. but never saw RTE do a segment on any of them.

RTE must have plans to make its own version of Love Island or some equivalent smut. Tubridy, D'Arcy and O'Rourke would not really be into this if they were honest and are fooling no one.

They are trying to be down with the young un’s

It’s a little desperate to me to big up a show which isn’t even on your channels....

This is the problem. They assume all young people are into smut and airhead drivel. It is desperate they are trying to promote a show not even on their channels.

Whoever is in charge of this Tubridy show seems to be mad to pander to the smutty audience. A few years ago, it was all about pushing 50 Shades of Grey on a segment of the show. 95% of the potential audience for this show are not into this smut. And no, one does not have to be a Holy Jack or be offended to be against this type of stuff. I am pretty broadminded but my objection to this stuff is not because it shocking but because it is drivel. Furthermore, Love Island makes 50 Shades look like a masterpiece.

There is a need for a corporate trouble-shooter (like the late Sir John Harvey-Jones type) to sort the place out.
He’ll be given an office, full access to all files/records and complete freedom to do whatever he wants. His first weeks will be spent examining the files, accounts etc.

From this office will be heard many “wtf’s” and the occasional “unbefcukinglievable” as the worried staff and presenters tiptoe past the door trying desperately not to be noticed.

At the end of the process his findings are made and he cuts, slashes, burns and dumps whatever and whoever he sees fit.

The big meeting in the canteen:

Forbes- seriously? Worst DG/MD/CEO I’ve ever seen- OUT.

Tubridy- you had a bloody good run at it eh? - 70% cut and the only reason you’re not out is because a few aul wans like ya.

Duffy - 120k pa or **** off. Mention a Range Rover Evoque one more time on air and I’ll personally break a plank over your head.

D’Arcy – in your fcukin dreams lad- OUT.

All you people in 2fm- go home. It’s gone.

Jenifer Mc Guire/Poisonelli- You’re banned from the campus and security will escort you from the building now.

Finucane- 60k pa max. Take it or leave it.

The Orchestras- It’s been a tough few years for ye and I don’t know how most of you are not in hospital with exhaustion but one of you is gone. Fight it out between yourselves.

A lot of people made good points that other Irish TV channels were just as bad.

They have a right to be as awful as they want, not receiving majority of licence fee funding AND corporate revenue.

No midweek movie anymore. Keith Barry, Mrs Brown, some "comedy" set in a hair salon and Bannon with off the wall houses.

Was Bannon raised in a hospital?

Considering how nepotistic RTE is, I imagine those jobs, those TWO jobs, have already been filled.

RTE, like any business, 'legally' have to advertise the job positions.

But that doesn't stop someone from giving the job away already. To someone with a connection to RTE.

UTV IReland was a crapfest, for sure-but they hired a lot of people and gave them a leg up in the industry, when others wouldn't. Even TV3/ Virgin Media hire you based on how well you fit into the company.

RTE...screw it, you've got a third generation relative in RTE? Fair dues. You're hired.

Off topic, but how the hell does Keith Barry keep getting work?

I know they didn't for years. If you 'promote' from within is that an exception?
For years and I mean years, they only advertised spots on the Orchestra because you can't give the niece the job of Oboe player if she can't play the Oboe. They changed tack slightly but if you look today there's an Orchestra spot and RTE jobs that require being employed or previously employed by RTE. Which is fair enough but there is rarely any entry level positions for graduates or new blood.
TBF, when TV3 started they only advertised on their website for a cleaner. An entire new TV station, only needed a cleaner.

    Nefarious mind control.

They broke. They'd have to film it here. Which begs the questions, where and will it effect the name of the programme?

Will we have Grá Trá? Or Bang Bog? Or something simple and "unique" like 'Love Ireland'.

You just know whatever name they come up with will be completely nuts.

They would take one look at the budget and decide to film in Coppers instead

I remember that Radio/reality/charity/celebrity effort hosted by Gerry 'the real thing' Ryan.
"Radio Rialto, this is not" he announced condescendingly. This was the part of his career where presenting and dealing with the great unwashed was beneath him.
'RTE Charity 252', a follow on from 'Celebrity Fame', which had Twink...

RTE needs to be disbanded alone for its decades of toeing church/goverment lines. It let us down immensely when we needed an objective Fourth Estate the most.

RTE tried that format, it led to Fade Street, and Vogue Williams. The cost of those shows were relatively cheap, but they still didnt' turn a profit. I think it's because IRish audiences will watch crap like the Hills, or Love Island, or Temptation Island, no problem-because it's sunny and looks amazing (the locations mind you, the shows themselves are pap). RTE only do shows where they send the likes of Crystal Swing or unfunny comediennes on free holidays. (IT was the same show).

RTE would do a show where it's just 'here, it's raining outside, and you smell like 40 silk cut and prosecco-fancy a bit of spank and tickle?' (Actually, I think they did-they dumped a lot of shows on RTE 2 in the past).

Wasn't that something to do with the Telethon? Aka 'come on everybody'? And yeah, Gerry was doing everything to try and crack TV. He got lucky with 'Ryan Confidential' aka 'Gerry stuffs his face, and gets pis**ed drunk while talking to the likes of Conan O' Brien or Sinead O'Connor'. But of course,Gerry often mucked things up.
Some of it could be down to his 'habits', more than likely it was down to his own undeserved hubris.

I know folks who work in TV3. And TG4. All behind the scenes mind. I don't know any who work in RTE. They'll give em work while in secondary school or whatever. But little besides that.
The strange thing is... when it comes to presenters, it is a serious gamble for RTE (or any station). Many of their talent weren't qualified when they hired them, I think one of TG4's most prominent presenter was doing a PLC when she got a job on TG4.
OThers who have secured positions on RTE often proved their worth on other channels. For example, I HATE Baz Ashmawy, but he went to Sky with his 'ways to kill your mammy'... and had a surprise success there. He'd been lukewarm on RTE, and often annoying. But RTe had money to burn round the time he'd worked with them.
When he went to Sky, had a hit, suddenly he was hot property (in their eyes).

We've seen Ryan Tubridy try to make it in the UK... he failed. Shouldnt' that tell RTE that 'maybe' (as in definitely) he's not worth the major money they pay him?

Angela Scanlon also tried to break the UK... she's stuck in an Post adverts now.
Wonder how long until RTE 'decide' to give her another show?

RTE apparently had the GAA schedule the all Ireland replay so it wouldnt class with horse racing and greyhound racing (yes greyhound racing, that old gem they condemmend to death a few months back in a documentary)

What next, will they move Dancing With The Stars if it clashes with the darts?
GAA director of communications Alan Milton confirmed the reason the final could not be played earlier was to suit RTÉ's broadcasting of the semi-finals of the Greyhound Derby and the Irish Champions Weekend in horse racing.
